I'm at the Apple store *again.* The guy next to me just had his phone replaced and he got 6.1.2 firmware. I have Apple Care + so I'm thinking about taking a gamble and paying the $50 to buy a replacement.
Another guy ahead of me is getting his phone replaced so I'm waiting to see if he gets a 6.1.2 as well. If so, I'm going to take the chance.
I hope you are successful in getting a replacement phone! Btw, which Apple Store did you go to?
mine was 6.1.2 when I received it, but I don't care for tethering or jailbreak, so I updated it
you should come back another time with a different genius guy, if not go to another apple store. or you just call apple and put a hold on your credit card, they ship it to you, then you ship your old phone back.
I tried a BS reason saying it doesn't auto pick up wifi and it takes a long time to get data signal. The guy blamed T-Mobile coverage. I told them I have another iPhone and it gets 4G fine next to mine with no signal. So he ran a diagnostic and it came back with battery issues. So he offered to replace the battery, not the phone.
So I said if the battery needs to be replaced and I'm having antenna issues, why not just replace my phone? He said nope.

Had to replace my phone today, got a FH1F version, no more jailbreak, software is at 6.1.3, I miss my jailbroken phone already
this is one thing holding me back on trading in my personal iPhone 5...we had our others in the house replaced but mine I cant imagine right now giving up my JB..lol springtomize 2+biteSMS+MapsOpner+Yourtube.....not to mention Zephyr and TetherMe!!!! cant jus cant give it up lol
If the dev team would release a jailbreak prior to iOS 7...would be amazing...looks like going forward we will only see 1 Jailbreak per major iOS release....
The jailbreak loss is terrible. I forgot how bad stock iOS 6 truly was

The only jailbreak app that i really miss is MyWi. Other than that the other apps were nice but not needed.

Chances are more likely that replacements will be 6.1.3, especially as more time passes.

Just got a replacement yesterday. 16gb black model that ends in FH19. iOS 6.1.3
My brother got a replacement as well and when he asked the Genius about it they said that he's getting the exact same one as the one he has now (which is AT&T locked) BUT when he got home and checked it was in fact T-Mobile compatible (16gb black model; FH19)
TL;DR: All replacement iPhones are T-Mobile compatible. Geniuses don't know what they're talking about.

its either they dont know or they are not allowed/not trained to explain the difference...as I don't think Apple wants the world to know that half the 1428 models are "OLD" already...so they are silently upgrading everyone that comes in.....Also some know exactly what were talking about but they only open up about it after having a good convo...happened to me twice..once over the phone and once in store

Most geniuses don't know. I had to educate the first two i had when making my exchange but when i went to exchange my 3rd iphone the genius knew about it. Only thing he didn't know was about the serials.
I think Apple doesnt want to educate their employees on this since they would rather people buy new iphones instead of using their warranty!
Apple in the end is still a corporation which the main goal of corporations is profit. Just like how they dont tell you that you already have a year warranty when you first buy your phone.
I fell victim to this back in the 3G days. My power button stopped working so i bought a new 3GS not knowing that i had a warranty on my 3G. When i found out i did get it exchanged and gave it to my wife but i had already wasted the money on the 3GS which had just came out that month so it was hard to find.

what is the chance of base band update in iOS 7? WWDC is another 50 days away.
I tried few times and failed, I even offered to buy another unlocked iPhone 5 (to replace iPhone 4S) at full price ($649) the genius would not do it ...

I doubt it since they say it cant be done by a simple update and has to be done in factory.
How are you asking for the replacement?
by telling them the truth, can they replace with AWS compatible iPhone? (since I moved from ATT to T-mobile and paid the ETF and it is unlocked officially).
