by telling them the truth, can they replace with AWS compatible iPhone? (since I moved from ATT to T-mobile and paid the ETF and it is unlocked officially).

Seems as if you are offering up too much information. You can still tell the truth without telling them everything.

For example when i exchanged my wifes phone i told them that we bought out iPhones in November (which we did) and i told them that my phone is always on 4G but hers is mostly on E ( i failed to tell them that i had my phone exchanged a week prior but that was just neglecting to offer up information and not lying). So they switched it out. Don't tell them you are exchanging it to get the t-mobile variant. you need to come up with a real reason why you need to exchange it.

Holy crap. that's great speed.
Mine is MUCH better now, but I was mainly looking to increase coverage; get rid of the "E" which I didn't even have indoors in most places. Lucky I scored the AWS version!

Your firmware version?

I'm at the Apple store *again.* The guy next to me just had his phone replaced and he got 6.1.2 firmware. I have Apple Care + so I'm thinking about taking a gamble and paying the $50 to buy a replacement.

Another guy ahead of me is getting his phone replaced so I'm waiting to see if he gets a 6.1.2 as well. If so, I'm going to take the chance.
I waited for the second guy to get his replacement. The first guy got 6.1.2. The second guy got 6.1.3 firmware. So it was a 50/50 chance I'd get 6.1.3 so I didn't buy the $50 replacement. :(

I hope you are successful in getting a replacement phone! Btw, which Apple Store did you go to?
I first went to the Grand Central Apple Store and the guy there was rude and didn't want to replace it. I then went to the 14th Street Apple Store and they were more helpful.
this is one thing holding me back on trading in my personal iPhone 5...we had our others in the house replaced but mine I cant imagine right now giving up my JB..lol springtomize 2+biteSMS+MapsOpner+Yourtube.....not to mention Zephyr and TetherMe!!!! cant jus cant give it up lol

If the dev team would release a jailbreak prior to iOS 7...would be amazing...looks like going forward we will only see 1 Jailbreak per major iOS release....
Since I have AppleCare + I can replace my iPhone at anytime. So I'll wait for the next jailbreak release then replace it.
Confirmed FH1D = Black 32gb

Plus it was on 6.1.2 out of the box.
Does anyone know if most of the 64GB iPhones are 6.1.2 or 6.1.3? I figure the lower sizes are replaced more often so they would have a higher chance of being 6.1.3. Maybe not the same for the 64GB?
what is the chance of base band update in iOS 7? WWDC is another 50 days away.

I tried few times and failed, I even offered to buy another unlocked iPhone 5 (to replace iPhone 4S) at full price ($649) the genius would not do it ...

lying may be the last resort to get AWS compatible iPhone 5.
Is it too late for you to buy AppleCare+ so you can replace your phone for any reason for $50?

The odds of you getting 64GB iOS 6.1.2 I would say are higher than any other capacity because not many people buy the 64GB...as for buying AppleCare+, Anyone that wish to buy it, must do so within first 30 days and that too provide a proof of purchase to Apple in order to get Applecare+...otherwise you only get the standard AppleCare

The funny thing is I don't even remember purchasing AppleCare+. I found out during my second visit at the Apple Store.

I have exchanged 2 64GB iPhones and both have been on 6.1.3

When did you exchange them?

I didnt mind giving up my jailbreak for faster and more reliable data.

On the Tmobile updated version you can use data and be on a call simultaneously which cant be dont on the old version with t-mobile. Also HD audio works which is a big difference in sound quality (for those of use who still use our phones to make calls).

Best of all the phone is always on "4G". I have not seen E once since trading my phone in.

May I ask what plan you are on?

Also Is anyone using GoSmart Mobile and getting T-Mobile LTE or HD voice?

GoSmart only gets 3G speeds so LTE will not work. Plus, there is no official carrier file to have it enable LTE. Also, HD Voice requires an official carrier file.

I am on the old family value plan, i have 3 lines for $103.

That includes 1000minutes
Unlimited texts
Unlimited data with 2GB highspeed for each line.

I was paying $105 dollars for the 3 lines previously with metro and i didnt even have data so T-Mobile is a much better deal.

My phone bent randomly at the volume button so gave me and excuse to change my phone. Went in last Thursday and they took me that they don't have any phones in stock and that they are recieving a shipment on the 11th. You guys think these phones will have the 1700 support?

Has anyone tried to get a replacement via Apple.com and shipping the "damaged" phone to them to get a replacement that is TMobile compatible? Is this not recommended, or is there a high risk of getting an old model refurb?

Finally Replaced

Last Tuesday…
I visited the Apple Store in Greensboro, NC. The replacement was an old iPhone 5. The numbers on the replacement box/phone were (661-6872 | MD644LL/A)

I've been watching this post from the beginning, I already knew that the replacement was a pervious iPhone 5. I asked the "Genius" for a new model which he replied "I don't understand, there is only one model of the unlocked iPhone 5". He claim to have no knowledge of iPhone 5's before 04/12 not having the AWS enabled. He also stated that he had to input the serial information from my current iPhone 5, and that the system automatically tells him what to replace it with.

I decided to hold off on the replacement. At this time i'm starting to think of why this location doesn't have the newer models. For those successful in getting theirs replace with AWS enable who have shared their location. The only explanation I could come up with is you all are in a bigger market. Greensboro isn't that big. I"m only working in NC until next week.

Last Friday...
I decided to travel to another Apple Store. The "Genius" there gave me the same story. However, this time they were out of stock and had to order a phone. I hope my luck will mirror "jts2" and that the iPhone ordered will be a new one. I'll update when it comes in.

Today…
I returned to the Apple Store to pick up my replacement. The replacement that was set aside for me was the old iPhone 5 with no AWS enabled. Same serial as before. After some back and forth another replacement was found and it happen to be the newer iPhone 5 with AWS enabled.

Phone Status…
6.1.3
carry update was not installed
FH1G 64GB

Suggestions…
The Geniuses all say the same thing. "you will get the same model you have now" "There is no different model" "I have to exchange the exact same phone has your serial" To save time and headache when the replacement is an old iPhone. It maybe a good idea to agree with the Genius that there is only one model. However, ask for them to find a replacement that ends with one of the 4 digit serials for AWS iPhone 5's

I made another trip to the Apple Store with the intention of using my Apple Care+ and buying a replacement iPhone for $50. I lucked out with the Apple Genius.

He looked at my iPhone and said you're on T-Mobile? I am to. You're gonna get Edge sometimes unless you get the iPhone that supports all of the bands. So he said let me check if I have an unlocked 64GB. Then came back and swapped my phone for free.

I did lose my jailbreak. The replacement is 6.1.3.

Can anyone Verifiy that the GoSmart Mobile works on 1700/2100 iPhone 5? (Yes it will work but my deep question is Can GoSmart SIM access 1700/2100 frequency towers)

I want to know if its limited to the 1900MHz....because I notice on the website it only mentions "3G" and nothing about 4G....wondering if T-Mobile started that carrier up just for Smartphone owners like iPhone 3G-4S who cannot access 1700/2100.

Hmm ok I was curious because GoSmart is owned directly by T-Mobile and since they allow LTE on their Prepaid plans listed on the www.T-mobile.com, thought it was worth looking into

For those of you who have replaced your previous iPhone 5's for the newer t-mobile version, did you guys really have an issue with the phone or did you guys come up with an excuse?

If you guys did come up with an excuse, can you guys tell me one? Lol. I'm trying to replace mine for the newer version this week and hopefully it works out!

It took me 3 tries at 3 different Apple Store until I got a Genius who happened to also use T-Mobile. He replaced it without testing it no questions asked. :)

I told them my iPhone constantly drops signal and gets stuck searching for signal. That it constantly drops calls or when someone calls it will have full bars but does not ring.

Just tell them a lot of complaints. Sticky power/sleep button. Slow wifi and not always joining remembered wifi networks. Just make up a series of problems.

Thanks man I appreciate it. I'm going to my nearest apple store tomorrow and hopefully everything goes all right.
