MBPs are priced just fine and are totally competitive with ALL other PC laptops out there. Anyone who thinks otherwise needs to actually go LOOK at the prices and not there own made up point of view with no factual basis.

Agreed.

Those stupid Dell notebooks are like...$499 because they have uneven backlighting, they're made of plastic, a 4200 RPM harddrive that'll die in 2 hours, no warranty, crappy keyboard & trackpad, a million parts that will fry from heat, & etc.

Sometimes I wish Apple would make maybe...a $600 laptop, but they can't do that without sacrificing a lot of quality.

I love my MacBook Pro & I am glad I got it, & find $2001.13 reasonable. (not a good deal but reasonable)

I am perfectly happy with my MBP. I wouldn't trade it for anything

I am also happy with my MBP 17-inch. What I found out is that the pricing for the Canadian market is ridiculous in this case:

MBP 15-inch 2.0Ghz CAD$2899.00
>MBP 15-inch 2.16 Ghz (Added CAD$360) = CAD$3259.00
>MBP 17-inch 2.16 Ghz CAD$3299.00

For only CAD$40 more, you get FireWire 800, three USB 2.0 ports, 8x double-layer SuperDrive, 120GB hard drive, and 1680 x 1050 resolution for the great 17-inch widescreen display :D

In the US, it comes out even.

$2799 = MBP 17
$2799 = MBP 15 w/ the 2.16GHz processor upgrade

Crazy. :)

MBP 17 $3,488 (2GB RAM and AppleCare...can't imagine buying one without these). Not sure what the MBP 15 costs in real out the door dollars, but that is a lot for a laptop.

In the UK, the MBP, the same MBP is £2,488.02. That's $4,683.91 USD. Shocking in my opinion.

Dude, you don't even have a MBP, so what the hell are you talking about? If you read these rumors a lot you get a pigeonholed view of all that goes wrong with Apple products.

These boards harvest A LOT of complainers, from minor things like the rubber foot on an iBook to a truly broken computer. So don't go thinking you know something just cause you read some rumor boards.

So lemme get this straight. You're saying that MBPs haven't had major problems with heat and whining noises?

Unfortunately, you aren't getting it straight. What I believe GimmeSlack12 is saying, is that judging a product's overall quality based on a Mac rumor/fanboy/enthusiast forum is way off base. 99% of quality related threads are going to be complaints due to the nitpicking/perfectionist nature of the members of these boards. You're not taking into account the overwhelming majority (likely tens of thousands) of those who own products and who don't have problems.

Oh yeah, they really sound bitchin'.

I love the sound of overstrained fans in the morning. Smells like...victory.

No, make that smells like shoddy engineering.

If you are getting your info on how the macbook pro's operate from this forum, you are mistaken. Most of the people posting about their MBPs on the forum are doing so because they have a problem. That's what forums are for. Asking questions and getting help on your computer. Seriously, do you think someone would post a thread saying "My Macbook pro works normally as expected." No, thats nothing out of the ordinary, however, if the thing is too hot, or whining, there will be some complaining. That is not the majority.

I agree that some folks that post complaints on "rumor forums" have unrealistic expectations, but you rarely see their threads get any traction unless a lot of other folks are having the same problem.

At these prices, Apple should have done better, and they didn't.

I love my new iMac, and the Mini seems a good machine for the money, but if I had paid the money that Apple is looking for with the MacBook Pro, a great deal more than most other Core Duo portables, I would be appalled.

Heat and excessive noise are not acceptable at those prices. Apple should do a recall and get these machines right.

Whatever, someone's just jealous they don't have one

Thanks for explaining what I was sayin' to the NetDogg.

It's hard to say how many MBP's (Percentage wise) have had problems. I'm willing to bet that it is less than 10%, and unfortunetely when people have problems they go searching for an answer. This explains why there seems like everyone (some not all) is complaining on the forums.
