The iPad for me is useless. I need a computer to store the family’s photos and as a Plex and iTunes server. The iPad can’t do these things for me.

That’s why I love the cheap iPad! It’s a great couch surfer, and that’s all I need right now.
Yeah, the perfect iPad would be the cheap one but with a laminated screen and 4GB of RAM. Charge $50 more for it and everyone's happy. That's all the iPad is to most people, a consumption device.

If you are ever interested in going iPad only, I would suggest investing in an NAS (I use the QNAP TS-251+). It allows me to run my Plex server off of it, download torrents directly to the NAS from my iPad app, schedule backups, keep all my family photo's etc. It's been a big reason why I have been able to go iOS only.
I second this. It’s basically local cloud computing.

I feel like I’m at a Trump rally with everyone calling any negative attention towards the iPad Pro, fake news, sad

Talk about an echo chamber

No offense, but you sound like Trump at a Trump rally, saying things that are factually untrue. Had you worded what you said more carefully, it would be more believable. But when you say "Literally no real differences", that is factually untrue, whether you consider them important or not. There are real differences and almost any review of the new iPad will list the differences for you.

What i would like to see on an iPad is like i have on all my computers a USB port that i use for running my Logitech mouse keyboard combo at the cost of around $60 on my iPad.
Also the ability to connect my computer direct to my iPad so i can transfer pictures videos and text files on both systems without using iTunes or Airdrop.

Second the mouse & keyboard support. I need it for RDP purposes. The files I just throw into iCloud though, thats not an option for you?

And these are the reasons I bought the new 12.9" Pro.
For me the XS FaceID is a little better than the X but I still don't much care for it. I would rather have in-display Touch ID. It will be interesting to see how it goes on the iPad. Some reviewers mentioned it seemed faster and there were some adjustments made so you don't have to look right at it since it's on the edge further away from your face. And maybe it will work better since I typically hold it further from my face than an iPhone. Furthermore the processor in the iPad Pro is significantly faster than the iPhone this year so maybe it is faster to unlock.

My problem was always with recognition. Some people said I had a lemon the first time around, but maybe I have a weird face. I have glasses and a short beard. Can't imagine that is very unique, though. The most annoying thing is trying to unlock it when it's sitting on my desk so that I can check something really quick. Having the Series 4 Apple Watch has helped a lot with that though because my Series 0 was slow and had poor battery so I had turned off many notifications. This one has long battery life and loads quickly so I don't need to check my phone as often. And I'm not often checking my iPad for notifications. So maybe it will be OK.

Literally no real differences besides usual spec bump, USB-C input is severely limited and with a simple lighting to USB-C dongle you can do the same thing with last years iPad Pro

But the main point is that iOS is still iOS. Extremely limited and cumbersome compared to macOS so it’s not laptop replacement by a long shot, but great at media consumption. It doesn’t matter if you have the power of a Mac Pro in an iPad if it can’t do anything

Hopefully iOS 13 actually makes the iPad a machine pro’s could realistically entertain using

I admit, I’m a little different but I prefer iOS over Mac OS. I have both. I guess I just prefer my iPad “work arounds” so well that when I grab my MAcBook pro it feels cumbersome to use. I’m probably in the minority.

iOS 12 is still iOS 12, tell me what you can do with the 2018 iPad Pro that’s unique?

Why does that matter? People update their computers all the time, running the exact same OS. It doesn't necessarily mean that you are all of a sudden going to be able to do completely different things. You are updating for power, new features, or potentially a new design. Are you able to distinguish between the reason why someone would buy a MacBook Pro over a MacBook Air? Even with the same OS. Similar deal here.

Until iOS gets more opened up and powerful for a more diverse set of users, the iPads (which I love) continue to be a Ferrari you can only drive on a very specific few tracks.

As appealing as the new ones appear to be, at the prices they want, I'm not jumping off my 9.7" iPP until I see iOS changes that make it much much closer to a MacBook replacement for a larger variety of uses I still have.

Sounds like the real argument is about the Identity of the IPad Pro. Where does it fit considering its rather amazing price in terms of productivity and usefulness. Sits pretty low still, and no that certainly hasn’t changed!

It is a luxury consumption device that can stretch slightly farther than the other IPads primarily due to the screen size. If you’re happy to be buying it for that, then yes this gen has some nice new changes for you.

This kind of comment is where we run into problems on these threads. That may be what an iPad is to YOU. That's not what it is to all users. For me, it's my main computer. For some it's for watching movies--and for people who just use it for watching movies, they shouldn't be concerning themselves with whether or not an iPad Pro can be a computer replacement. They should just buy the $329 model and not think twice about it.

Actually it’s the biggest one ever

12.9 in a smaller body and face ID? And amazing power and speed?

Perfect for me

Same thoughts here, however that’s not going iPad only - it’s getting a network enabled computer for storage and use the iPad as a way to interface with said computer.
It would be great for the iPad to finally gain support for external storage via USB - that to me would be real progress.

And these are the reasons I bought the new 12.9" Pro.

Good for you that you can afford it just for more convenience - I would consider it if it brought more productivity to the platform. From that perspective I don’t see me gaining much over the predecessor.

That's true. But it's also true that the capability of the machine has not changed in this update, if that is what OP was going for.

It isn’t meaningless for those people who are perfectly happy with iOS and how it works on the iPad.
