To be honest, I wouldn’t buy a Windows laptop with less than 16GB RAM at this point in time. Modern web browsing is a major memory hog.

As for iPads with 4GB or less, yeah, unless there’s a specific use case with relatively light performance requirements or a need for a certain form factor, I wouldn’t get those either.

16 GB is the bare minimum for a computer nowadays. Though 32 GB is even better if your a gamer or use some VMs.

Because people don't code anymore. Back in 2005-08 I made my own websites in HTML 4. Today it's too complex, and nobody wants to code, they use website making platforms. When I updated one of my website in 2015 I asked the webmaster if he could make a custom made website for me. He said, are you nuts, that would cost a fortune, only big corporations have their side coded from scratch and they pay a fortune for that...
Exactly. S/W labor costs will drive it. Why spend money on little to no ROI for the extra effort?

To be fair, I’ve a high end gaming PC which does have 32GB RAM but nothing I play even touches 16GB RAM - most people don’t run VM’s day to do either.

Which would mean only the IPP 2020 and 2021 models, as well as the Ipad Air 5 getting this feature. Potentially also the IPP 2018 1 TB model which had 6 GB RAM. All lightening based ipads would be ineligible.
Yeah I would hope not but it’s an apple thing to do guess will see soon enough

Just saying.....
Yep - my Amiga 500 had 512K of RAM out of the box and had pre-emptive multitasking, a full GUI and a terminal. I eventually (after a year) saved up and added the second 512K to get to 1MB. And then added the GVP sidecar HD/RAM upgrade and went beyond but don't recall how much I added along with a then-massive 52MB SCSI 5.25" HD. Just the bare HD cost me over $500 in around 1990.

The 8 GB M1 machines actually work decently well and outside of gaming it might be hard for many users to experience significant performance gains.

I wonder if this also means final cut and logic finally to the iPad.
I don’t think Apple has a true interest in porting these. One can speculate about the reasons, I guess they don’t see much of a profit for these apps on iPad when they have that niche covered with the Mac so well, but in 12 years of iPad we’re not closer to getting these, unfortunately.

The fact that an iPad Pro costs more than a MacBook Air and does less than a MacBook Air boggles my mind.

I get the pencil-and-tablet stuff is useful for people. But I don't get paying more than a laptop to be able to do that.

Seriously, just make the iPad run macOS and it would be both devices very effectively. All problems solved.
A high end version of one product might cost more than a low end version of another. Happens all the time, just look at vehicles where some motorcycles cost way more than a car would - but there’s still a market for both. Just get what you want and enjoy.

There is still a cost to porting and maintaining them on a different OS.
Personally I get that, just sell it in bundle or as add-on for extra price for those who get desktop app.
If someone wants to get it stand-alone for their iPadOS device, add premium over regular iPadOS app prices.
Say, universal app version of Logic Pro that works on an iPad can bet bought with X price and if you want to activate it on your iPad, pay little extra fee. Or, say, pay half the price of macOS app to run it on iPad only(ie, without macOS license) but keep all the bells and whistles of said macOS app?
No easy solution, someones gonna be unhappy either way, but at least offer some choices, thats better than doing nothing.

I agree with that - sell it like any third-party app with a break for anyone who already owns a desktop version.

How different is MacOS and iPadOS underneath? It is not like MacOS to Win porting. High end apps on iPad makes better sense now with improved RAM management at far better external screen support.

Agree that it's not like going to Windows but it's not a freebie to do it so there has to be a business case for Apple to do it. If there was a good enough ROI, they'd do it.
