I called O2 today and they said that I need to call back on Wednesday when they have them in stock, so that I can order a replacement ( hopefully will have a new unit on Thursday )

My iPhone is very good, apart from the slight yellowing, I keep thinking that the price I paid, why shouldn't I get it exchanged, it's not as if I even have to step out of the house :D

How do replacements work - you send it back first and then they send you back a new one? or do they send the replacement out first? i swear if it wasn't for these forums the yellow screen wouldn't even be bothering me

Lol I know right !. I'm not sure, but I think that they will send you a new phone, and collect the old one at the same time

Thanks, makes sense - wouldn't want to be without my phone for too long.

If I did risk it and request a replacement - do you think I could open it up and have a look at it before they collected the old one? I'm worried about getting stuck with an even worse one... again a result of the 'horror' stories on these boards :)

Well, they will let you turn it on and look at it but since it is not activated all you will see is the activation screen and I don't think you can determine the "yellow-screen" issue from the activation screen...at least I couldn't...
I just didn't want to take the chance of getting it home, activating it and finding out it was worse than the one i had...

I think I can live with it for now... I really don't want to get into a situation like some have where they're on their 5th or 6th replacement and still not happy.

I am of the same mind...I decided to live with the "yellow" tint issue for now. I did notice it right away as my 2G was a far more "white/blue" screen but one thing I will say about the 3GS screen is that the blacks seem darker and the colors of the icons on the black background home screen truly POP almost floating over the black. The only time I notice the "warmer yellow" is when there is a white background like on Mail or settings...the white is CLEARLY more of a "bone" or "eggshell" than white even with the brightness all the way up and auto off...there may be a slight bit more yellow on the bottom than the top of the 3GS screen but not enough to bother me. I'm more at issue with the poorly displayed "whites"...
Other than that my 923 3GS is great...no other issues...

I have an iPod Touch (1G) and that's only time I really notice something is 'wrong' with my iPhone... but the build quality seems sound and like you I only see the yellows when in the settings or using email/messages. Other than that I do agree the colours are much more vivid on the iPhone than the touch, which is great.

I know the longer we leave getting a replacement the greater the risk of getting a refurb, but I'll probably get used to the yellow and may not want the hassle of getting a replacement... until iPhone 4G of course.

I feel the same. Mine is barely noticeable at the bottom. In fact I would not have noticed it had a not read it here. I don't have any other issues and simply don't want to get one that is worse in some other area.

That is an ugly screen

Wow. It's that is bad! Even on all the previous generations of ipod touch and iphone this irritating yellowing is not present. This is not to be excused really because 90% of all web pages has white background and you see it every darn time you check the news. Come on Apple this is not acceptable for a phone today!

5. Do you care?

No.

You know, if the Palm team were really smart, they'd run some internet ads with pics of the yellow screen. That would give them something pretty solid to go after.

I'm debating whether to get mine replaced because of it's 'yellow bottom'. I think it's just gonna annoy me too much. (week 21)

I got mine at a uk o2 store. Will they replace it without any problems or will I have to argue my case? And can I return it to an apple store, or does it have to be o2?

To me, it's a different shade of white. I'm going to try and not let it bother me because I turn the brightness down anyway. I don't think that getting a replacement at this point is going to change anything for everyone up above. Mine is one of the newest out there, shipped over night from Texas. You'd have to wait a week and hope to get something newer. I'm looking from top to bottom on my phone, and everything looks the same, but I just turned it on.

3GS on right (still waiting for it to activate), 1st Gen on left. The darkness at the bottom left of the first picture is actually caused by the camera. And yes, the line in my first gen phone on the right happened when the phone dropped from my pocket on to a tile floor sitting at a bar. Didn't smash the display, but there is a line.

It's not as bas as the people who posted up above, but it's not going to be a perfect white either.

i'd be fine with a uniformly yellow screen. but mine has white on top and yellow on bottom. horrible.

I just got back from the costa mesa apple store. My new iphone was so yellow I hated it. So, I made a genius appointment online. They acted like they never heard of the problem, but after hemming and hawing, he did open a box and let me see another, which was much better, and they did exchange it for me. Considering all the business I have given them over the years, they sure can be rude, but the outcome was good. It's not as white as my G2, but it's much better.
