But the SCREWS. They're attached with SCREWS. SCREWS make them upgradeable. The SCREWS.

"hmm.. i don't think you'll even have to unscrew the ones around the edges.. just the four screws holding the X bracket (presumably made of similar material as the heat sink?) then the two screws labeled 'gnd' and '12v'.. and the gpu will come out.. the connection is at the bottom and i assume that part will either hinge downwards in order to allow someone to slide it out or maybe theres a secondary wire connection..

i really don't know the details obviously.. i don't claim to know the details..
for all intents and purposes, there's exactly ONE feature on the computer which should be telling you all this thing is user serviceable.. that's the access latch."

"all i'm doing is looking at the available pictures of the new mac and pointing out the obvious.. it has nothing to do with what i 'wish' was true.. all of its major components are entirely user serviceable beyond any reasonable doubt.. that is all i'm actually saying in the thread.."

You'll have to excuse Aiden. It was Sarcasm. There was a poster who used to swear that there would be upgrades a-plenty and his sole element of proof was the fact that the machine was built with screws.

Don't ask.

UPDATE: Found some! Get out your wallet.

"the topic of who sells the parts after it's more widely known that the machine is serviceable is a different topic and one that you all will continue to argue about in the coming years.."

it's the word games that some people choose to play as an attempt to save face which is annoying.. as in- when this thing is released and it's shown to be upgradeable etc, i'll still have been wrong all along if a few of these guys have anything to say about it.. you'll see.

Wrong when posted in 2013, and still wrong today.

Amazing.

Please go to the thread of the guy wanting to upgrade his GPUs and explain how "upgradeable" his machine is.

And if you had any self respect, you'd never post such a silly joke.

No upgrades = not upgradeable

Doesn't matter if it is welded, glued, screwed, or snapped together.

Just for the record, we didn't get real coke back, we got corn syrup in a can, which tastes like drek, although it was better than "New Coke" which was horrible. You want a "real" Coke, try a Mexican or a Passover Coke. That's what it's supposed to taste like, not some vile slurry tainted with aluminum.

As for the Mac Pro, Yeah, bring it back, slap 16 cores, USB3, SATA III, a Thunderbolt bus and leave the slots so I can determine how many GPUs I need. and I'm in. The money they'd spend to do it would be less than the rounding error on the interest they make on their cash stash, and they'd buy a lot of goodwill with the geezers who remember what a soft drink is supposed to taste like, and still have a few bucks in their pockets.
Though it would also be nice if Apple made a consumer-level desktop like the Mac Pro but with i5/i7 CPUs, non-ECC RAM, four RAM slots, a couple of hard drive bays and one or two M.2 NVMe slots(with standard connectors).

i'm not quite sure what your point is. if you wanted value for your dollars then you'd get more by a custom build or by getting a refurb or used oMP and upgrading as needed.

if you like the nMP design, then by all means buy it.

i will not. and if someone feels the desire to make a petition asking Apple to release an updated oMP design i will sign it.

Exactly! The CPU and GPU might be removable but that doesn't mean you can buy replacements or upgrades.

M2 isn't faster M2 pci-e is and I have a 3TB Toshiba 2.5" external so I imagine you can buy the same drive bare.
Actually, there are two types of M.2. There's one type which uses AHCI, and is only as fast as SATA III. And then there's the other type, which uses NVMe, which is a 4x PCIe 3.0 connection.
