Mark my words, next year we're going to see a G5 with a unibody design. With Samsung, HTC, Apple, Moto and all Nexus devices employing this design, LG will not want to be left out in the cold, so to speak.

I could see this, definitely.

----------

This is the beauty of an open eco system. Samsung seems to be going to a unibidy design and nixing SD cards and removable batteries. But any other OEM can step up and fill that customer need!!
Like LG is poised to do with the G4!

Maybe Samsung will incorporate the SD slot in the S7 due to popular demand. Maybe not.

Maybe they'll just leave it up to the Active variant to address removable battery/SD. That, I think, is the better idea.

I was never opposed to multiple variants. Let them address different niches, markets, and needs.

Pretty much all the details have leaked now... (leather, slightly curved screen, better screen, better camera etc).

And finally, the price seems to have gone up in comparison to the G3 by about 10% if reports are to be believed.

This is due to the natural leather and camera upgrade.

Let's see. I'd love for some good offers to hit the UK but we rarely get offers. Like a combined G4 and Urbane at a lower price etc.

Right now, looks like G4, Note 4, S6 or maybe even iPhone 6!

In about 7 hours from now, they'll announce it.

Let's see how it goes, the watches are already being priced accordingly (G Watch R price reduction, Urbane is available).

Seems like a incremental release at best. Camera might be better. But not a fan of the leather that they have been touting.

See, perfect example of how preferences can changes impressions of a phone so much. The leather is the one element I like best about it :D

I wasn't a huge fan based on the earlier leaked photos but after watching the first look video over at Android Central, the quality of the leather looks much better--watch for the point when it's next to a Moto X with leather. Think it looks infinitely better than the plastic back panels, regardless of whether they have a 'metallic finish' or ceramic paint--still look glossy, cheap, and flimsy to me.

software is my biggest issue

not sure if i could get used to the size either

Software would be near top of my list as well. LG's skin is still sooo cartoonish, IMO, and why is everything do damn big? The quick settings on the Notification panel are huge. Buttons and system font also seem overly large and spread out.

I just don't see why I would want their implementation over stock with fast updates (and no performance conflicts between android and the skin, especially applicable for updates down the line). Feels like they just want to be different for the sake of it, but I guess you could say that about any oem.

The G4 in no way tempts me to dump my Nexus 6. This new G4 just seems ho hum, ok, typical new phone refresh, but playing it safe.

Not a fan of LG's UI, much prefer stock Android.

Yep....perfect example! :) I didn't like the leather on the N3 either or on the Moto X. It just seems cheesy. Now some of those wood backs are awesome!

There is very little "wow" factor in smartphones anymore. And I've own a lot of them including the G3 and iPhone 6 plus.

G4 looks good. I may get it. But it's nothing that tells me to upgrade from G3.

I've lost interest in the Galaxy series as well. Owned several nexus phones as well.

I've never been a fan of LG's UI or their build quality which looks to be pretty much the same. Rear speaker placement is completely outdated and embarrassing. What an amazing screen with mediocre sound quality to accompany it.

Weak attempt to play it safe, IMO. You can join HTC in the "What went wrong" sales report meeting.

Very true. Samsung took some bold moves that has transformed the Galaxy line as a huge seller in risking battery removal and SD card slot but for the masses it was a major win and look.

Samsung still has the worst UI of any Android phone and is still terrible at updates but thats more on the carriers but I have to give credit where it is due in them taking a chance with a completely new design and beautiful device.

Personally, I have little to no interest in this device. There's really nothing overly new or exciting about this.

I like that it's pushing the competition though spec-wise.

Sad but true I guess....

Never thought so, but it seems Sony is my last chance to wow me this year....

The Z4 (or is it the Z3+) news will be interesting. Their announcement is for US/International is supposed to be about a month away, give or take?

Not to derail the thread, but I'm also curious to see what Motorola will bring to the table, and what Google will do with the Nexus in 2015. A report recently said that the Nexus program is not selling well at all.

Wow, surprised by the reaction here.

To me the G4 looks superb. They have pretty much nailed all the important things, by the looks of it.

The only question is about the 808, but reviews will reveal all in a few weeks.

And the skin doesn't matter to me, I'd just stick the Google Now Launcher straight on. LG are also fast with software updates, I got Lollipop on my G3 BEFORE most Nexus devices!

Just hope it's not stupidly expensive.

Here in Europe we are already able to pre-order it, € 649 for the plastic back, € 699 for leather.

I'll take TouchWiz over thst awful LG skin anyway. I do like to look of the g4 and I will admit my note 4 is a bit hard to carry around, if it's more packable I'll get it.

I think the LG G4 looks worse than the G3. Leather on the back of any smartphone is just not something I find appealing personally but even disregarding that, the overall shape of the phone just seems less refined and more cheap generic smartphone than I would expect from a flagship. I'm always sad when the screen to bezel ratio gets worse :(

That being said, assuming the SD 808 doesn't prove to be a terrible mistake, I am intrigued by the functionality of the LG G4. The camera looks like it should at least be competitive. I like that they are focusing on white balance and color in both their camera and their display. These are the areas that make the most difference to me (rather than sharpness or clarity).

I've never tried LG's skin but from what I've seen online, while it may be ugly it at least gives you the option to turn off more stuff than Samsung's touchwiz does. This is the most important thing for me regarding a skin. I don't like any of them but if they can get out of the way I can live with them. I can't wait to try it out in store to see if my prediction is correct.
