Anyone else see LG announced they are using stock android in the future? That's huge for me, maybe the g7 will be the phone to get. Maybe in dreamland Lg would offer a stock rom for the g6.

What??? That's huge, their software has always been a huge turn off.

@ LG

Yeah, that price is hard to swallow. I'm still planning on getting one, but at that price Apple has very little room for error, the slightest flaw and it might be the first iPhone that I don't upgrade to. Rumors of no touch id are discouraging to me.

Of course the carriers can help, the last 2 years at&t has run a special if you trade in an older iPhone you get $650 credit towards the new one, I've been keeping around my 6S for this reason alone.

SE won't probably get much. I sold my S7 for $315, so I can go ahead and use that towards a phone.

Have a link? Or did you mean Lenovo?

It's the 6S, and the last 2 years at&t ran a promotion that if you trade in an iPhone that's 2 generations old or newer you would get a $650 credit (spread over 2 years) towards the payments for a new iPhone. Did it last year for my wife.

That's like nett $300-400 off over 2 years plus locked in on higher price plan.

Plan prices are the same. What your signed up for is phone payments for 30 months. The $650 credit is then also spread over that time and credited towards those payments. So you get charged 30 something, but then receive a 20 something credit and only pay the difference. It's basically locking you in for 30 months, if you cancel early your forget the remaining credits.

T-Mobile better have something. They had a 6S for a 7 free EIP deal on a 2 year agreement. My SE is technically a 2017 model because of a 32gb refresh, but it's not worth much in terms of TIV. It's probably worth $250-$300 on the open market now.

got the July update as well for my H870DS.
Surprisingly, the face unlock is working really nice here!

Can't see real other differences...probally some under the hood improvements (and the VoLTE)

I'm one that's actually happy about that. I like LG's skin. The look of the UI is slightly outdated though.

Yeah but skins/launchers can easily be applied to stock android. It's too bad Lg doesn't go this route, it would be nice to have timely OS updates.

I actually wish ALL android OEMs would work with a stock base of android and simply have their own apps that are updated entirely though playstore including their launcher. That way we get fast OS updates and security patches and the OEM can update launcher and features throughout generations of devices quickly rather than in the disjointed piecemeal way they do.

Yep, this is where google lacks balls IMO. They have leverage with their App Store and google apps. It's unconscionable how bad google has let the fragmentation become. A year into an OS and to brag about 10% adoption rate is completely ridiculous and just points out a major inadequacy.

Did the T-Mobile and US unlocked models receive the facial recognition update?

Re: new update ....

So discovered a new 'mini view' option in settings. Essentially does a similar one handed mode Huawei and Samsung have implemented on their devices.

Performance seems to have improved a little too, not that I had any real complaints in that regard anyway.

Can someone share a video of the facial recognition software at work and how fast it is on the LG G6, please? Thanks.

Here is a quick video. It's bloody hard to record this without using a proper tripod setup.

Here is the unlock face menu options. Note, I have additionally enabled the more accurate face detect option .. so it seems to take 2 seconds or so.

I tapped to wake screen in video, on actual use you dont have to. You simply raise device and look at it and it wakes and unlocks. However I couldn't demonstrate give holding another phone and keeping the other in shot hand gymnastics required.

Thanks for that. Does the advanced option slow it down by a bit like milliseconds vs 2 seconds? Are you going to use that over the FP sensor?
