I guess I should clarify. With the first two days of the G6 battery life has been terrible compared to the XL. Usage has been the same. Not sure if this is just a new phone settling in and it’ll improve, or if this is what I’m to expect going forward. Thoughts? MRU, epic, jamezr, others?
I don't have a G6 anymore. But when I did I thought the battery life was pretty good to be honest. I felt it was on par with my Pixel XL. Maybe it needs a couple days to get settled and should level out for you.

Mine is consistently giving me 5 hours SOT which is on par with my Pixel (not the XL) ... First few days are never truly indicative, need to give it a few more days and see how it levels out. But if your getting far less than the 5 hours SOT I would look at possible reasons for that .. for example Dual SIM models with 2 Sims will get less battery as they are polling two networks etc.

I just discovered the greatness that is “Tracking focus” in the camera settings. That’s a great addition, especially when trying to snap or video moving kids!

Wow from the front it really does ...
I'm thinking of selling/trading for a discount (if they offer it) my regular S8+ for the S8 Active IF it's not plagued with the various issues I saw people complain about last year for the S7 Active. But I'm in no hurry to do that. It is just an idea I'm percolating.

I felt the LG G6 really got the form factor so right. I just have so many Samsung accessories like two watches I was reluctant to leave idle when I chose the S8+. And I wanted more onboard storage space than LG was offering the US.

Unfortunately nobody but LG has the amazing wide angle lens as far as I know. Maybe the Note 8 will but I think the rumors point more to a zoom lens. The pictures I've seen taken with the wide angle lens, especially yours, seriously impress me.

Welkome to the G6 world @MRU ;)
Hope you gonna enjoy your LG G6 as much as I do.

Besides of the lack of frequent updates, this is a real great phone!
Lol, i have been in this world for last few months. Started with a korean platinum, sold that and bought UK white, traded that for UK platinum and now traded again for 64gb 870DS in the fancy new G6+ colour scheme.

How do you like the camera for indoor use?
I find it good indoors as long as there is ample lighting. Then I shoot in auto, if lighting is poor I end up shooting in manual to crank iso etc... I find manual in low light more accommodating than auto, plus I can save raw and edit that later if necessary.

The wide angle is handy indoors too where you want to capture an entire room without climbing up or knocking through a wall in order to get everything in the shot as you would with normal lens.

Just a little update. So I got the new model today so baring in mind the battery hasn't been conditioned yet, I charged to full and setup the device. Restored my G6 backup to the new device with LG Switch and I've been playing with the device a lot today. Listened to a good few hours of music with quad DAC enabled. Watched YouTube, read lots of news and setup all my social network stuff. Always on Display on. So a pretty heavy usage day and with that all in mind I am at 15% battery now and have 5hr 13 mins SOT .... I had read and assumed the Dual SIM variant would have poorer battery life than my European single SIM model, but based on today's usage it should be just as consistent with regular 5 hours SOT ....

I am considering a LG G6, but I feel like $500 is too much. $350 would be a sweet spot for last year's processor, especially with the V30 around the corner. Did LG update it with Facelock / facial recognition besides the Smartlock default feature it has?

Apparently when next wave of updates rollout the answer is yes, as they updated it on the G6+ and all G6's are supposed to get same software update.

edit .... firmware is rolling out now which adds face unlock to the biometric unlock options.

Ok, so I’ve currently got US variants of LG G6 and Galaxy S8 in my possession. I don’t need both, so one’s going back. The keeper will likely just be a holdover until the next Pixel phones come out. Photos, audio, and battery life are priorities to me. Which one would get your vote and why?

LG G6: faster charging for battery life on the go, dual cameras, better audio quality, no gimmicky edge screens, your phone won't lag as much, and it is going to get better software support in the mean time.

Go with whichever you prefer yourself. I prefer the G6 because 'overall' it suits me more and it's quirks are less irritating to me than the S8 has proven to be for me. I can understand others preferring the S8, but things I prioritize as a daily usage device such as memory management I find better on the G6. I also still prefer flat screens and the ergonomics.

What do you actually prefer yourself ? Decide on that and keep that one. Simples.

What are your current concerns with the S8 that you didn't mention here.

What are concerns about the LG G6? I am considering buying one.

The S8 memory management is subpar for me. It makes any gains the 835 (or 2017 exynos in my case) offers over the 821 and pees all over it because whilst I can only cycle between 5-6 apps on my S8 before forced content refreshes and reloads, I can go 14 apps on the G6 which makes the G6 feel so much faster in day to day usage for me.

I am still getting the odd false touch but no where near as bad as the S7e.

Not being able to find a screen protector I actually like or feel. I hate not having a protector and it makes me anxious when taking device a out into the wild.

The redundancy of the Bixby service and button irk me, especially when inadvertently press the Bixby button (sometimes when rotating my device to horizontal mode) and I'm interupted & reminded of a service not offered in my region / working.

Battery life on my S8 has been inconsistent.

-----

The G6, lack of regular monthly security updates and still on 7.0

Not sure of LG's commitment to keep the device up to date and fear it may dwell in software limbo if they prioritize the V30.

Over sharpening post processing on the camera irks me at times too, but it is the
Software update frequency and longevity is my primary issue with LG.

Honestly .... I will be getting rid of both and jumping on the Pixel 2 XL as the G6 style design (no curved screen) with proper software updates and assurance of them would be my preference. Though if Google yet again doesn't offer the pixel in my country and I have to import, I'll be holding onto the G6 longer and will be selling the S8 regardless.

Go iPhone 8, best solution to software updates, good camera (underlying assumption it gets better than the 7+), has water resistance, minimal bezels, will be available in Ireland, has dual stereo speakers, has good RAM management, doesn't need as many monthly security patches, plenty of screen protectors, no crazy Bixby button or annoying resources tied into it, and has more consistency.

I'm not keen on the prospective €1200 price for the iPhone 8. Honestly it just seems far too much money to spend on a phone to justify the cost, even if it was the best phone out. If it turns out to be less than €1000 (around €500 subsidised by carrier) I will get one. But if the iPhone 8 is €1200, I will hold off until they are more plentiful and second hand price drops. My 7+ isn't slow or lacking ram and bezels aren't a major issue for me and it will get iOS 11 anyway, so I have no need to rush to the iPhone 8.

Yeah, that price is hard to swallow. I'm still planning on getting one, but at that price Apple has very little room for error, the slightest flaw and it might be the first iPhone that I don't upgrade to. Rumors of no touch id are discouraging to me.

Of course the carriers can help, the last 2 years at&t has run a special if you trade in an older iPhone you get $650 credit towards the new one, I've been keeping around my 6S for this reason alone.
