Technically, you're probably right about the differences but that's not really the point. Although I do question if, say, on the Verizon version the improved chip might make a difference.

The new optimisation they say they are enabling via software for the 821 hardware hopefully will offer improvements. But I do think LG are making a mistake here, as essentially they are creating a two tier device and the slow sales of the LG G6 will only be impacted or halted if folks are thinking that a newer version is right in the wings. Then by the time it comes out, it will still look overpriced compared to the likes of the OnePlus 5 and the likes of the S8 will start to be offered discounted on carriers - meaning the new LG G6+ likely will struggle regardless.

It seems like a self defeating move from LG.

Outside of Samsung, I've given up trying to figure out most Android OEM's business model. I don't know how any of them make money on their phones. I know most don't so I guess that answers the question. Part of the issue is most consumers really can't tell or care to tell what the differences are between them. That's a story for another thread but where it dovetails here is you have companies like LG seemingly throwing everything against the wall hoping something sticks.

So, last week I bought a brand new LG G6, 64Gb dual sim with HiFi quad DAC for € 367 incl shipping. In my opinion a pretty good deal since its the 64Gb model and the quad DAC.

Anyone here still (very) happy/satisfied with their LG G6?

I read some horor stories about bootloops with the old LG phones. Is this still happening with the ''new'' LG G6?

Bootlooping hasn't started happening with the G6 as yet (and no reports of it so far anyway).

I'm delighted with my G6. Love it so much more than my S8 in pretty much every regard. The screen is excellent with great 'accurate' colour reproduction, I have very few performance issues (they do occur once in a while - as they do with most androids) but generally, everything runs smoothly, and it handles ram like a champion.

I'm glad I got the H870 which is now officially supported with bootloader unlocking, so custom rom support and such will be a breeze if I go down that route in the future - I have no plans as yet.

I love the camera system. Taken on its own, is it the best camera on a smartphone? Well HDR isn't as good as the Google Pixel and the S8 is still better in low light, but once I factor in the extra wide-angle camera and the versatility that offers me to capture images that I simply couldn't get on either my pixel, s8 or iphone 7+ then it has quickly jumped to my favourite smartphone camera system at the moment.

I had the Korean model with Quad DAC prior to getting my UK model without Quad Dac, and TBH I don't notice any difference using my Bose Over the Ear Headphones. Audio sounds great regardless.

However ... I am annoyed I am still on April 1st security patch, I am annoyed that I am on 7.0 rather than 7.1.1.
I am not bothered about the LG G6+ revision - it's a minor bump, but I am glad that the new software improvements it will have will be rolled out to the existing G6, reportedly this month, will mean maybe updated security and Android version as well as general improvements.

Honestly at €375 this phone retails for on eGlobal at the moment, I think it's the BEST VALUE smartphone of 2017 bar none, and would easily recommend it to anyone looking for a decent smartphone.

Thanks for your thorough review @MRU ;)

Glad to hear bootlooping is not an issue (yet) and you're still very satisfied with your G6!

And indeed, I bought mine via eGlobal, €367 incl an additional 3% discount.

I am so jealous of the price you got it for, though I don't regret the €550 mine cost me... even C3PO agrees.

:D:D:D well, if even C3PO gives the 2 thumbs up, then I am 100% sure I got a nice deal.

On the serious note ;) I had the Samsung S8 for a month before I returned it. After 2 weeks I got my first (slight) stutters and lag.
And the bloatware and double apps started to annoy me.

I thought about the OP5, but not gonna pay €500 for a display where the screen is turned up side down, as ALL OP5's have that, according to Carl Pei/OnePlus last week in a statement in The Verge.

I know the LG G6 has not the latest best 825 Snapdragon chip, but after rading a few reviews, I got the feeling this 821 chip in the LG G6 is okay/good.

Phone looks great there :) :) My Wife has the black G6, and it really is a very nice phone.

I'm just such a stock ANdroid nerd, nothing beats that. And if rumors are true of the Pixel 2 XL being LG made, and based off the G6 design, just larger, then that would be a major win win.

Unless Apple's version is really special, I think the G6 is hands down the best design of the year.

Only via the display scaling in display options.

You may be able to do it granualy with ADB commands, but do not know 100%

Some smartphones allow dpi change via developer options with Nougat, like the new Sony ZX premium I just picked up. That comes in handy and makes things much easier. And one’s eyes will thank them once they get the display where they like.

Is your LG a carrier phone or unlocked?

EU Unlocked.

Noticed the G6 seems to be even better with ram management since update. The update seems to have trimmed system ram usage leaving even more free.

Can easily get 16 apps open now without reloading. Impressive stuff LG do despite their very customised skin. They clearly do try to optimise. It's a shame they allow carriers to mess it up in the US though.

Just read about the DXO score of 87 for the OPO5. I wonder why the never did the G6? The g5 is there but not the g6?

Don't know, but I lost faith in DxO (their methods and results) a long while ago TBH, that their scores are pretty much irrelevant to me personally, and I'd rather go on my own real world experience.

There has been some very notable disparity for a few devices in the past with some devices real world usage exhibiting shocking results compared to the DxO mark they were actually awarded.

(Xperia Z5, Moto Z Force, and even HTC 10 spring to mind, especially considering they awarded HTC 10 joint best mark at the time despite utterly broken/bug ridden software that every review picked up on and yet DxO didn't. It's a good camera, but was it same class as S7 or even 2017's S8? The reality was it simply wasn't by a good margin and yet its score says otherwise.

The Z5 and the Moto Z Force likewise were very very average and should have scored much lower based on my usage of them and the photographic results they produced).

There might be some discrepancies....but for the most part they are pretty spot on imho.
The "utterly broken/bug ridden software" as you say on the HTC 10 still would prevent it from taking great pictures.....

That bug ridden software was not the OS, it was just the camera app. It needed two or three specific camera fixes to correct persistent issues such as blurry images at launch yet DxO didn't reflect that.

When I had the HTC 10 the camera app worked ok....no crashes. Pictures came out pretty nice. I just didn't like the Sense Android skin.

Exactly it's 'pretty nice'. That's a mile away from saying it's the equal best camera on any smartphone; which is what DxO awarded it at the time. Even with camera fixes it still is not as good as the S7 or the galaxy S8 in practice, and yet its score says otherwise.

Pretty nice was just my adjective. I liked the HTC 10 and the pictures it took. But it was just too small for me.
My experiences with the G6 leads me to believe it has a horrible camera. The pictures I took and posted here in this thread were really bad. They were blurry and unfocused espically if there was any kind of movement. Even a slight wind made the pictures blurry. Lots of others in other forums (AC) had the same experience I did. But then others here in this thread had just the opposite experience. So maybe it depends on the unit the DxO testers are supplied with.

I had plans to buy the S8+ but waited for reviews and real-life experience reports before spending upwards of 800 EUR for the phone. What eventually put me off was Bixby and its dedicated "dummy" button for it. That felt so amateurish to me that I just didn't want to spend almost 1k EUR for it.

While the S8 is absolutely gorgeous in terms of design (prefer my old S6 Edge design though), the LG G6 has the edge in terms of aesthetics for me. I just like that it's not quite as rounded, a bit more sturdy looking and it's so slick that it looks more premium than any other phone on the market right now, imo.

I just ordered a black LG G6 with 64GB (the H870) and can't wait for it to get here! I've never had an LG phone, so I'm looking forward to seeing how they interpreted Android.

Unfortunately, I didn't know of that eGlobal site and obviously didn't do my research, that would have saved me a bit. But I still got it for a decent price, so won't complain.
