So does that applies to the old 5k as well I guess, right?

What if I connect it to the Z490 Vision D motherboard, which has onboard Titan Ridge support with one DP 1.4 input? I would do: PCIE graphic card w/ DP 1.4 output -> DP 1.4 input -> TB3 output to monitor input

And, if that doesn't work, would it work using the GC Titan Ridge addon card, which has two separates DP inputs?

EDIT
after reading here and here, it looks like I've got my answer; basically, I need two DP inputs to drive the Ultrafine 5k @ 5k, so the usage of add-on card is mandatory; do you agree ?
You need addon card with two DP inputs to get 5K on the LG UltraFine 5K displays (new or old). With a single DP, only 4K is available. With the old LG UltraFine 5K, it needs to come from Thunderbolt in any case. The new LG UltraFine 5K can take DisplayPort without Thunderbolt (for 4K).

Hello, I have a 2016 MacBook Pro Mojave, I connected the Wacom Plus Link (Thunderbolt 2 MbP <> Wacom + USB for sound + USB C to connect to monitor). It works well, the mic and camera work and the display is crisp. Only issue is once I go to settings > sound and switch to Ultrafine (USB) and play a video, it plays for 1 sec exactly and stop and the mac freezes and the spinner comes. Only on putting it back to internal speaker does it function properly again.

Any tips ?

EDIT: Plugged into a different port, its works now but crackles so much!

Second question, I have a windows PC with DP 1.2 (Nvdia GTX 970). I have ordered a DP 1.2 -> Thunderbolt 2 wire for the wacom. Theoretically speaking with it work ?

Not sure what can be done about the crackling.
I wonder if a Belkin Charge and Sync Cable or Huawei VR 2 Computer Connection Cable would give better results?

I remember someone else mentioned crackling audio from the LG with the Wacom Link Plus:

Yes, A DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort cable should work. The only difference between each end of the cable is the shape of the connector. There is no special circuitry inside the cable - so it is bidirectional.

I recently got my LG 5K ultrafine screen. I connected it using the Wacom Link Plus & a mini dp to dp port cable to my windows pc. The screen shows, but it's flickering a lot. It turns on and off continuously making it almost impossible to use. Has anyone else experienced this?

EDIT: I replaced the USB c cable and now the issue is gone. On the other hand, I tried using the speakers by connecting the regular USB cable shipped with the wacom link plus to my pc but the audio isn't exactly working. It has a lot of crackles making the speakers pretty much unusable. Is there someone who experienced this and managed to fix it?

I have solved this in a cheaper way than the Wacom and HDMI works! At least on the LG Ultrafine 4k (24 inch - later model with USB C).

Using this Amazon Basics bi-directional DP to USB C cable connected to this HDMI to DP adapter I can now plug my Switch Dock in via HDMI. Sound doesn't come through though which is a shame but it's better than nothing.

I also tried with the DeLock DP adapter combined with this different HDMI to DP (Male) and nothing came through so they're on their way back to Amazon

I'm planning to use the new Mac mini and a Windows 10 PC with the same monitor, the LG UltraSharp 4K. If I install the ASUS ThunderboltEx 3 card in the PC, will I be able to switch between the mini and the PC when both computers are turned on or do I need to turn off one of them or even unplug one of the cables for it to work?

Hey guys! Firstly thanks for the detailed discussion! I recently purchased a Lenovo desktop with usb-c ports. When I tried connecting it with 24 Ultrafine 4k using the usb-c cable that comes with the display, it failed. It seems that the usb-c port is not connected with the desktop GPU. Could anybody give me some advice? Thanks so much!

I found a HDMI output to USB-C input cable. The only option in the world. It work perfect. You can also add a DP adapter to directly become HDMI to DP.
That's interesting. Combines HDMI 2.0 to DisplayPort adapter with DisplayPort+USB to USB-C cable and is less expensive than either?

I've never seen a DP adapter that has USB-C female input. Do you have a link for that? Unless you mean some kind of USB-C dock.

Sorry,I may not express it clearly!I mean DP to HDMI to USB C Use this one

For HDMI OUTPUT to DP INPUT there is another on

That one is DP to HDMI. It is a horrible idea to combine that with the HDMI+USB to USB-C cable (because DP -> HDMI 2.0 -> DP is redundant and HDMI 2.0 has less bandwidth than DP so it's a bottleneck).

Instead, for DP+USB to USB-C, use the Belkin Charge and Sync cable or a Wacom Link Plus.

That adapter is limited to HDMI 1.4 (4K 30Hz).
For HDMI 2.0 (4K 60Hz), The Club 3D CAC-1331 HDMI to DisplayPort 4K60Hz M/F Active Adapter can be used.

I don't know much about DP, Another user told me that he used DP to HDMI to USB-C transfer without any problems or delays, and it was much cheaper. I mainly use HDMI source from PC PS4 PS5 or switch to transmit to the USB-C monitor. Seems the cable I found on reddit it's the only option right now, I really can't find another.

Trying to download the ClickMonitorDCC software. Seems like the link https://clickmonitorddc.bplaced.net/ is no longer available. The software can be found at a few other places e.g. MajorGeeks. But... when I download it and test it at virustotal.com I get a warning that one engine (out of 70) detected a problem with the file. Probably a false positive but anyway, it makes me wonder if it is safe to install?

I have the wacom adapter, bidrectional cables also I have the moshi display port to usb-c cable that a lot of other people are saying just works but I have not been able to get anything to work to get my Ultrafine 5k monitor to work with windows 10. I have MSI x299 Gaming Pro i9-7940x GTX 1080TI. All display ports are tested and work on my samsung 2k monitor. Is there anything I am missing? My windows machine doesn't even detect anything is plugged in.

What is the model number of your LG UltraFine 5K display? The first generation requires Thunderbolt. Only the latest generation will work with a non-Thunderbolt input.

Thank you, seems I have the first version of it. I was thinking the 4K(1st gen) vs 5K(2nd Gen) when reading through the forum. Makes sense now.

Yes, very little difference between 1st and 2nd gen LG UltraFine 5K (1st requires Thunderbolt).
The 4K has a few changes (1st gen is smaller 21" but higher resolution 4096x2304 and doesn't use Thunderbolt, USB 2.0 hub; 2nd gen is 24", 3840x2160, can support Thunderbolt which allows for USB 3.0 hub and daisy chain of display or Thunderbolt device)

Okay so there is no way I can connect my 1st gen 5k to my PC unless I get a TB3 AIC correct?

Hi before I build my gaming pc and buy the Wacom link plus. I want to ask is there anything to take note when building the pc (like getting mini dp in order to not getting more adapter or cable just to connect to Wacom link?) or any cable I should buy in order to make the pc work with the monitor ?

These is what I read and understand so far

1. Get Mini display port for windows pc so I can connect mini dp to wacom display port.

2. Connect Wacom USB-type c to one of the monitor thunderbolt port with the USB-type c cable that come from with the monitor.

** I own 24” ultrafine 4K 24MD4KL-B

That should work. DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort cable (unless your GPU has Mini DisplayPort ports, then I think the Wacom Link Plus comes with the Mini DisplayPort to MiniDisplayPort cable).

I’ve just bought the 24” Ultrafine 4K and want to connect my Windows tower to it via HDMI. What’s the easiest way of doing this via cables?

@PCuser214, This is exactly the kind of solution I was looking for!
Did it work you well with PS4 connected?

Unfortunately, I have the first 5k generation screen (27MD5KA) which supports only thunderbolt, which means that I have to connect a USB-C to Thunderbolt adapter. Is it an issue?

@joevt, as the mastermind of this thread, what do you think?

There is no USB-C to Thunderbolt adapter. There are only the Thunderbolt 3 add-in cards for PCs. Maybe it could work if it was installed in a PC - connect a HDMI 2.0 to DisplayPort adapter to the PS4, connect the other end to the DisplayPort in of the Thunderbolt 3 add-in card. Then connect the LG UltraFine 5K (27MD5KA) to the Thunderbolt port of the Thunderbolt 3 add-in card. The Thunderbolt 3 add-in card (usually a GC-TITAN RIDGE or GC-ALPINE RIDGE) can be externally powered using certain PCIe risers in some cases (without a PC) and work with normal USB-C displays but Thunderbolt displays may be more problematic.
