On a stand like that, the Touch Bar would be too far away for my taste anyway.
Besides, the Touch Bar was never a selling point for me. All I cared about was the 2TB disk and dual 5K support.

However, I quite like it so that's why I'm hoping for a new wireless keyboard.

Yes, it's too far away for anything beyond occasional use. When I get my 5K, I'll try setting up the monitor behind/above the MBP.

Have many people been reporting frame drops on the 5k with a 13" mbp, esp base model? If so, any experts able to say if this is fixable via software or basically a symptom of an inherently underpowered machine?

I've had a couple of hiccups here and there. The first time I opened a PDF file with graphics the graphics were not rendered properly. There were white horizontal lines interspersed in the graphics. That has not happened again. The first time I booted into Windows 10 from boot camp the display graphics looked terrible and no resolution option looked right. I rebooted and that problem went away. From sleep, I've had the display not come on right away a couple of times but not consistently or predictably. I am not seeing any frame dropout issues.

Overall, I am very happy with the 5K display. It is simply stunning to look at!

I am hopeful that LD and Apple will be fixing any interoperability issues that are discovered quickly.

Which macbook do you have?

One thing that I didn't think about till recently is how to make sure that the content on each display changes regularly to avoid burn-in. I find myself primarily interacting with the larger external display and only occasionally using the MBP's display, which means that the MBP may render a static image for several hours at a time.

Am I the only one who is worried about this? Are others just better about actually using multiple displays?

If you're curious, I created a separate thread and was referred to two tools that are able to disable individual displays, DisableMonitor and SwitchResX.

These shouldn't have burn in issue. They are not OLED.

Would also like to know this... anyone?
Also... happy new year to all!

I am having serious problems with dropped frames working with the MacBook Pro non touchbar base model. It is incredibly slow in apps like Sketch and Affinity Photo. It is super slow. Still all people commenting here (with the exception of me) seem to be using the 5k with the touchbar model (which has a a dedicated GPU).

Still waiting for someone to report in with a similar configuration like me.

Mine's arriving mid January... will report to you then. Will you switch to touchbar model if the base model can't handle the 5K?

I don't know if this is possible but if others report the same issue i guess i have no option. I upgraded from a 5 years old MacBook air, and the performance I am getting from this NEW machine is worse than my old one.

Just my .02

I have a ntMBP hooked up to the 5k LG. Love it! I had a 5k iMac and the mbp for meetings / travel but felt bad to have the two capable computers. Received the LG today and am truly satisfied with performance and for some reason , the panel in the LG seems better than the iMac. (maybe the "new" placebo)

Let me know if you have any questions.

Sorry this is a couple days late but have you noticed any lag or frame drops the others have had with various 13in models?

How much video memory is used when working with those apps? Your GPU does not have dedicated video memory and driving a 5K display alone, especially at 10 Bits, requires quite a bit of VRAM.
That's why I'm glad Apple offered a 4GB Radeon as well for Dual 5K users.

For folks who are having instability or performance issues, I recommend switching the stock Thunderbolt cable with one from Belkin's and see if it resolves your problem.

I encountered laggy performance, dropped frames as well as numerous wake/sleep and display issues when using the stock cable with my tb13. By chance I had two Belkin Thunderbolt cables (0.5m and 2m) with me and testing with those resolved all these issues. Computer wakes up from sleep fine in open and clamshell modes. And performance is perfect with no jerkiness on any tasks.

Now I am not sure if the issue is the cable quality of the stock cable or if the connector does not seat well. I did try reseating the stock cable connector multiple times but it never worked well.

Also, holding both the Belkin and stock cable in hand, it feels the Belkin one is slightly thicker. Again, not sure if that has to do anything.

Worth a try getting it from the Apple Store and returning it if it doesn't solve your problems.

The only problem with that is that cable only supports 60w of power. Fine for the 13in owners to tear and use like me but not a suitable fix for the 15in owners who are having sleep/wake issues

I think it is worth purchasing for testing for some 15in owners who are having these issues as well to 100% confirm if cable is the problem. Once testing is done, it should be returned and they should raise hell with LG and to some extent Apple to get this fiasco resolved as they have no resolution.

If the stock cable is crap and results in framedrops, that's poor or nonexistent product testing. I can't imagine Apple missing this flaw if they made their own monitor. Or if Apple really did collaborate, it adds further credence to their across the board product slippage.

It's so far the only 5A rated 40Gbps Thunderbolt 3 cable in existence. Teething problems are likely but I'm sure it will be fixed very soon. These cables can even have firmware updates!

Anyone know if it's possible to control the brightness on two external displays so they both adjust at the same time using a single slider?
[doublepost=1483329156][/doublepost]Also, if anyone is anal retentive about having their icons all in black and white in the menu bar like me, here's a replacement menu bar icon for the LG Screen Manager app (I didn't seen an option in the app settings so this was the only one of mine in color).

http://www.rtkane.com/upload/icon_body_a.ico

Right click the LG Screen Manager app in the Application Folder, click "show package contents" and then replace the "icon_body_a.ico" file in the /contents/resources folder. (I just rename the original file so I have it).

If I purchase a brand new MacBook Pro, and a brand new monitor, I expect to get decent performance from 3000+ euros gear. It is mentioned that the MacBook Pro IS compatible. Besides, How can opening affinity photo with an EMPTY document be too much to handle for a new Pro machine?
