Thanks a ton. Meticulous details. Kinda wish the guys at LG/Apple took half this much effort when making the 5K ;-)

Hah thanks. My wife, who's a commercial interior designer, helped me spec it out. I think you'll love the set up.

I plan on building something similar for our dining table, but with solid walnut.

Has anyone been able to use this LG display on a windows computer? It looks amazing on my Dell XPS 9350 laptop however after about 15 minutes Windows crashes. I'm running all the latest drivers and still get this issue.

I haven't tried. I would make sure that your Dell has full speed TB3 (certain models don't). Then try installing LG's drivers that allows you to do window management.

As far as I've seen, this is not possible. There are no LG drivers to make the TB connection work on Windows. Would be a nice option (so I'm not tied to my MBP with the two LG 5Ks I have), but I don't see this ever happening.

Only tried the 4k one on windows machine so far, there are drivers available for it?

I stand corrected, it does work under Windows, but only at 4K.

Anyone heard of a company doing better speakers for this screen? I would love a soundbar or something like that to improve the sound a bit. I don't have room on my desk for standalone speakers so something attached to the screen would be great.

I have a weird issue with my screen...everything works perfectly, except the webcam and FaceTime!

I use my 5K mostly with my Mac in Clamshell, so everything is going through the monitor. When I do a FaceTime call, I am using the monitor's webcam, mic and terrible speakers (using external speakers makes a lovely echo).

After about 5 minutes, suddenly the microphone goes on mute, and the people can't hear me anymore on the other end. The only way to solve this is to just disconnect the screen and use my laptop.

Can anyone suggest a fix? Or had this issue as well?

Will

I've had similar problem for a few days. But after disconnecting my laptop and do a power-down->power on, I haven't noticed the problem for the last week or two.

I have a new problem...

disconnect both monitors -

Laptop open
disconnect right
let screens settle
disconnect left
Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep
Reset

Only happens sometimes...

I would like to find a subwoofer for the screen! I tried the TwelveSouth BaseJump, but it doesn't have enough punch unfortunately! The speakers aren't bad, just very treble and mid heavy!

Has anyone else seen this on their 15" MBP, with or without using the 5K? Typically I'll get this, or a greyed out box instead, and then my screen freezing soon after, requiring me to restart.

I'm back...

This monitor is total ****. It's now completely screen glitching and running my CPU up to 500%. I just went to Apple Store and bought a Belkin 0.5m TB3 cable (the active one that has 40GBPS transfer). Still same issue.

Beyond these major issues, it's just not a monitor I can rely on for work, way too buggy. It sucks on bootcamp (often fails to render proper resolution), among other issues such as terrible image retention.

Do not buy.

So after waiting for a while for the LG 32UD99 4k displays, I finally decided I need to pull the trigger on some monitors. While there are plenty of other 4k solutions out there, I require sharp text for spreadsheets and databases that I have open simultaneously along with good image quality. So I picked up a couple of these Ultrafine's after looking at a bunch of reviews online. I am going to use them on an Ergo LX dual arm mount (really nice mount) so the stand is of no importance. I don't mind the plastic construction as an aluminum design would probably have been too heavy for the mount.

I have seen lots of very positive reviews online about picture quality, etc. And most recommend the monitor overall with a few caveats. If used with a later 2016 15" tbMBP, I gather that this should work pretty well. Now I am seeing all these user reports about problems and was hoping a lot of them were solved, but lots of suggestions that this is a poor quality monitor with lots reporting hardware failures. Are any of you actually happy with your Ultrafines? Or are they basically all doomed after a few months. At $2600 for two not including taxes, it's a pretty sum to pay for crap displays...

.... Concerned

Don't do it, get the LG 4k one with the TB3/USB-C power delivery... this monitor just has poor hardware QC and a lot of software bugs that make for a very unpleasant experience if you rely on it for work. Also you'll want to consider the output if you plan on connecting anything else besides a 2016 MBP or MacBook to it..

then if you do ever have issues with the 5k, resolution has to be done through LG -- you don't get the apple customer service outside of 14 days of purchase

EDIT: Also you might wait for what apple could announce during WWDC, rumor is they might be producing new 1st party displays

I'm happy with mine. I recommend you thoroughly test them within the 14 day window. Apple announced that they're working on an Apple display, but most likely it'll be at least a year from now.

If he got the LG 4K, he would still have to deal with LG. Apple is producing a new Apple monitor, it's not a rumor. Most likely it'll release a year from now at the earliest.

Waiting for a year for an Apple display is not really an option, unfortunately. They arrived yesterday and I will set them up later today. The SN's start with 704 which I gather means they were made last month 7=2017 and 04=April. I will definitely give them a workout over the next week and see how it goes. Will post some feedback after...

You're correct in your assumption. That's probably the latest production. I would test a router near it, sleep/wake, sleep/wake with peripherals connected to the monitor.

Wonder if the small issues are ever gonna get fixed. Come on LG, where is the FIRST sw update for these things. :-(

Screen works, proper functionality doesn't.
