Connecting speakers through the display's USB-C connections.

Do you have any success with this? I had really nice KEF active powered AW300s connected to the display and it kept cutting out. They only worked if plugged into my MacBook Pro.

What is your audio setup with the LG 5k?

Hello. I use the Vanatoo One speakers, I believe somewhat similar to the KEF's ... I have an Apple USB C to USB adapter for mine and they work great. Since I updated my firmware I have no issues with the USB devices powering off after it goes to sleep or I reboot. On my other setup I have a USB C adapter going into a USB 3.0 HUB and that also works great. Did you update your firmware?

Are you connecting through the display's ports for directly from your Mac? - thanks!

I am connecting through the USB-C on the LG 5K itself. On my Macbook I only have 2 connections going in .. the LG5K and a 4K monitor. Everything else is hooked directly to the monitor.

Yep! Here is the link http://www.lg.com/us/support-product/lg-27MD5KA-B#manuals -- its the "Screen Manager"

This did not work on Beta High Sierra .. I had to install Sierra onto a USB 3 external and boot off that to do it. Also, make sure and follow the directions when doing it ... unplugging any devices etc.. you just want the LG5K and Laptop on. Good luck, this fixed all my issues .. love the LG5K .. I'll update to Apple's Display whenever it comes out but will enjoy using this until then!

Any idea why the Ultrafine 5k is unavailable for purchase or pickup at Apple store locations? I know the unit was pulled to fix the shielding issues, has it just never returned to inventory? A sign that Apple has given up on it?

Even though the apple website and phone rep claimed my store didn't have any, a visit to the store revealed they had about 5. I walked out with one!

Loving this thing so far. Major upgrade from my 27" ACD. Absolutely beautiful display.

Any word if the firmware update or the beta of High Sierra have allowed 90 degree rotation to work again? It worked fine using a third part app (SwitchResX) until a Sierra update in April or so, and since then, selecting 90 degree rotation just causes a garbled screen. It's unclear if the OS update might fix it, or if the firmware already has (less likely, since the OS update is what broke it).

So I am planning on buying a pc for VR purposes. I want to be able to connect the pc to this fine monitor. I dont care too much if i get 5k, i can satisfy with 4k or 2560 res.

Most new pc graphics cards seems to have hdmi or DisplayPort 1.4. How on earth will I be able to plug it in the LG monitor. Will adapters work? Have anyone here tried?

Kind regards,
Lukas Arvidsson

Hi All,

Newbie here. I'm unable to get the latest monitor update for my Ultrafine 5k. LG Screen Manager says I have the latest version but I still have 3.01,1.11,5234,3.00,0.1d. I'm running the latest stable release of Mac OS Sierra (10.12.6) using a 2017 MBP 13-inch with Touchbar.

Can anyone pull the update file from their machine and share it? For a few weeks now I was hoping that updating to High Sierra might prompt the update as I figured it may have prompted others due to their running the High Sierra BETA, but reading through this entire thread (very entertaining btw!) I'm getting worried that I may never get it. LG Support has not been useful, at all, insisting that I have the latest monitor software. Hoping someone here can help me out!

Thanks,
Jack

is that monitor better than this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CH9ZTI4/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A05740521K2J3FLXPM6LM&psc=1

???

sorry for the silly question but I'm a little lost, I'm looking for a 27 inch monitor 4k, for my 2013 late 15 inch macbook pro, also I soon upgrade to the latest 13 inc macbook pro.

so what's the best 27 inch monitor under $500 for a macbook right now?

thanks
This is the wrong thread, suggest asking in a fresh one asking about 4K's.

But FWIW, given this is the only 5K with TB3, I'd wait until you have the new MBP then buy this, as it won't work fully with your current machine. There isn't a particular "best" 27" 4K display, and furthermore none of them are as good as this 5K, anyway.
[doublepost=1505584027][/doublepost]Anyone help me with a quick issue:

1) Do you guys have this folder ("Ism") with file ("LGScreenManager.log") in your Documents folder? What is it for?
[note I've hidden the other docs in Documents temporarily, so it's on it's own in there]
Screen Shot 2017-09-16 at 18.37.42.png

2) Do I need to keep the folder/file, or can I delete one/both?

Clearly they're related to the LG 5K Display ("LG Screen Manager" app?) in some way... but miffed on what it's for and why it's decided to help itself to inclusion in my private Docs folder!

Thanks in advance.

Yep... I had that also after I ran the app and updated the firmware. It was just a log of the firmware update and I deleted the whole folder and nothing bad happened.
Many thanks Weaselboy! Yeah I was just re-reading through this thread a minute ago, and found your original post (#1199) about this happening:

I just tested, and mine also seems to wake about twice as fast as it did.

Also, just a warning for anybody doing this update. Don't get panicked when it seems to have stalled. Mine got to around 20% or so and sat there a good two or three minutes apparently doing nothing, then slowly started inching along again. I'd say the whole thing was about seven minutes.

I noticed the FW installer made an install log in a folder call lsm in my ~/Documents folder.

Good to know this can go in the Trash! ;-)

Hi,

I have exactly the same issue. In the same conditions (macOS 10.12.6 and LGscreenmanager v2.06) and the button for firmware update is grayed out despite my monitor FW showing up as 3.01,1.11,5234,3.00,0.1d.

What the hell is happening with our versions of LG Screen Manager that there is no LG Screen Manager.app/Contents/Resources/update_data/GL3523_VBYS1_LGE_PDDock_FW5222.bin?

For the record, though located in Spain, I have downloaded both US and UK versions of the v2.06 Screen Manager app with the same results in both cases.

Can anybody who has successfully updated to 0.1e extract the .bin file from the Contents of the Screen Manager application and share it with us here, please?

Sorry you're having these same issues, but at the same time I'm sort of relieved that I'm not that only one!

I'd suggest two ideas, which may or may not work:

- uninstall and reinstall screen mgr, and try again.

and/or

- wait until High Sierra is released and they then will presumably (if not beforehand) release v2.08 of screen mgr, then try again.

...let us know if the first idea works. And we'll all have to see what happens with 2.08. :-|

Scrap the first idea, you tried that (misread it). Looks like the second one is the only way forward.

Hi Jim,

If a new firmware version is released when High Sierra hits, could you grab the .bin file (before updating) from Applications/LG Screen Manager.app/Contents/Resources/update_data/ ? I don't have much faith that we'll receive the update automatically, if José and I are still on the original firmware, 9-10 months after the original release of the monitor.

It appears that SOME people were able to acquire and install the latest firmware. I'm still stuck in USB hub h3ll as I have to disconnect then reconnect any USB devices plugged into the display when connecting my computer.

So, who has this .bin file that might be able to share it? The monitor is severely limited given the audio volume and USB hub issues that it observes.
