Here is what I found in the lsm log after trying to update the firmware on my LG 5k Monitor:
http:/lmu.lge.com/ExternalService/lgscreenmanager/mac/FW/27MD5KA_MP3/MODEL_27MD5KA_SV3.04_CV1.13_HV5237_NV3.04_AV0.1e_20170705.zip

If you type that into your browser it will download what I believe is the latest firmware available for the LG 5K (I think the firmware is dated July 2017).

BTW I have upgraded my monitor but it seems to lose the update after a few days. The LG Screen Manager is very flakey as well.

Thank you so much. You just made my day, no more broken eardrums

I see that the new firmware allows Night Shift Mode to be enabled for both dual monitors. Before, only the main monitor would enter Night Shift Mode.

I am considering purchasing an UltraFine 5K, but the only thing holding me back is all of the reviews about bugs / issues with the monitor. The price / looks do not concern me, but I just can't justify spending so much for a monitor that does not function the way it was intended.

I haven't followed the issues closely and am just wondering if I purchase a new one now will I be likely to experience issues or have they been worked out by now?

It's lottery.

If you found a good one, then its definitely a good buy. If you end up with the one with problems such as awful tint, dust behind panel...etc then it's a NO GO....

The chance of finding a decent one is still low IMO, but if you willing to do a exchange game, then do it.

They're not that bad. Sure any display can have these issues, but to say most will have them is over the top.

They're great overall as displays go for, you know, displaying things. It's just a shame that the firmware is not implemented the best it could be (hence the recent issues users have had with the last sw upgrade) for the minor details with sound and suchlike.

Nearly all got awful uneven tint, and big portion of with with image retention, render it useless among professional, which is what it advertise for with P3 Wide gamuts. Not to mention the first one I got even have dust underneath the screen panel with color temp at lower than 5600K.

Not sure if light sensor finally got it working or not either.....

I’d love to hear how you are able to conclude that “nearly all got awful tint”. Please feel free to publish your statistics on that if you think they will withstand scrutiny.

I’ve had two 5K displays which were returned for the WiFi shielding issue and a further two replacement displays and none of them showed any tint issues or image retention. And, yes I know what to look for as I have considerable experience of display testing dating back to 1993 with IBM on CRTs and more recently on LCD displays.

I also think that your point about P3 implying “professional” use is incorrect since a growing number of consumer devices now support P3 display and capture, including the MacBook Pros which would typically be used to drive these displays but also the iPhones and iPads used alongside them.

Yes, there are some minor issues with the firmware on these displays but lots of the bugs have been resolved already and I would honestly say that the USB-C hubs on these displays are pretty much as good as any other USB-C hub available today. That’s not really a great compliment given the current state of play with USB-C but if you can accept that the LG 5K is no worse than other vendors in the USB-C game and think of it more simply as a display (and power supply) then it performs pretty admirably. I’m still running two of these displays on my 2016 MBP 15” with ‘460 GPU and use it for 8+ hours a day with no regrets.

Thanks for this. However, a word of caution.

I was on 3.01 and upgraded to this new version on my 5K, and when in clamshell mode, my monitor will no longer resume from sleep. Screen remains black.
If I open the laptop the monitor remains black and the laptop shows the screen but as a secondary monitor.

This 3.04 release is buggy, despite adding/improving other features.

is that on High Sierra... I have been updated since August and was fine on Sierra but since High Sierra I have had lots of problems....

I had a similar experience, not knowing or thinking I should remove the MBP from clamshell mode prior to firmware upgrade. I simply restarted the mac and all was normal. Performed the firmware upgrade on the second display and it went without issues. The LG app states that it can only upgrade with one monitor connected at a time, which makes since. I think the clamshell experience seems logical as the monitor will "turn off" during upgrade and the MBP can think that the monitor is disconnected. Or so I think...

I think you've missed my point.
I had already done as you had suggested, leaving the laptop open while doing the update.
My issue is that from now onwards, on 3.04, my laptop won't turn the monitor screen back on when resuming from sleep.
It was absolutely fine in both Sierra and High Sierra when running 3.01. No longer.

Yup, lost in translation before I had coffee I guess. Sorry, I do not have that problem. My screens wake faster now then they had with 3.01 (didnt notice until this morning).

Yeah, same here. I actually updated the monitor while it was in clamshell mode and had no problems. Actually, today was the first time I disconnected the monitor and it is indeed faster to output to the display when connected.

those who are updated are you having High Sierra Problems -

FCPX 10.3.4 bug - crashing if MBP in clamshell, fine if not... massive bug and known, it is all over FCP apple forums... reported it and done official FCP feedback... there is a fiddly work around...

Sleep problem - most of times if MBP in clamshell and left to sleep with 2xLG 5K then it crashes... I have reported this every time... seems no work around...

Is there currently any later software version than 3.04,1.13,5237,3.04,0.1e under screen manager 2.08?

Or is this the latest for the 5K's?

No Sleep or wake issues on my end with HighSierra and MBP in clamshell with 2x 5k units.

I was about to ask the same, it worked on my 5K, but I have a 4K next to it, that's still on the old FW. :(
i don't know if it was due to pausing little snitch (i doubt it) but right after pausing the little snitch filter, lg screen manager offered me to update my 4k. now the volume adjustment from the first to the second step is fixed. i'm really delighted.

Thanks to bob48 for being a true hero. I contacted LG support and they said they couldn't provide a link, but bob48 saved the day.

FYI, I manually upgraded the firmware on both my old LG UltraFine 5K and my new LG UltraFine 5K monitor using bob48's link. Both were successful and have had no issues. I had my MacBook Pro open while installing both.
