I have seen on a German website that there is a firmware 3.11 for the LG Ultrafine 5K...
There are even screenshots showing the version:
https://www.ifun.de/lg-ultrafine-monitor-firmware-update-verfuegbar-114688/
The site explains that the new firmware has somme improvement for the camera and the USB-C Hub...

I am somehow stuck on version 3.04 using LG Screenmanager v2.08. Somehow it doesn't detect the new firmware...
Is there anyone who was able to update the firmware to ver. 3.11 successfully?

A lot of us are in the same situation stuck on 3.04. It appears they released 3.11 then pulled it for some reason, because nobody has been able to access it.

Here's what that German website says:

Owners of the LG UltraFine 4K Display and UltraFine 5K Display LG screens developed in cooperation with Apple have new device firmware available.

Version 3.11 can be installed via the official LG Screen Manager , which LG first updated a month ago - but the update can take up to 15 minutes.

We already introduced the LG app at the launch of both screens last year . The application helps to update the firmware of the screens and also offers several advanced setting options.

In the latest version of the LG Screen Manager brings in addition to the support of macOS High Sierra also various bug fixes and improvements.

According to LG, the stability of USB-C connections should increase and the image quality of the integrated camera should improve, especially in low-light conditions. In addition, the manufacturer now promises a more accurate volume control if this does not happen directly on the monitor, but from a connected Mac.

Which improvements the Fimrware update of the monitors takes care of is unclear. However, the USB-C connection between the screen and Mac must be briefly cut after installation to prevent possible connection errors between the computer and USB devices connected to the monitor.

This URL shows 3.04 is the latest version: http://lmu.lge.com/ExternalService/lgscreenmanager/mac/FW/27MD5KA_MP3/FWLatestVersion.txt

Just visited the Apple Store and got myself the LG Ultrafine 4K Display. So far, I have no issues driving it with my Macbook Pro 13" 2016 (4 TB3 ports) in clamshell mode *knock on wood*. My initial intention was actually to grab the 5K model, but after seeing it in person, it's simply too much real estate for my use case. I was pretty worried by all the reports here on the boards, so I asked them to plug in both the 4K and 5K model in a Macbook Pro. During that limited test, I didn't notice any issue with either of them (such as mission control, dashboard, animated websites).

I just got the LG UltraFine 5K for my 2017 13" TB MBP with Four Thunderbolt 3 ports. Does it matter which port I connect the LG 5K monitor to? Thanks!

On the Macbook Pro 2017, it doesn't matter: all thunderbolt ports have the same speed.

Appreciate it, thanks!
I'm pretty sure the right side ports on the 2017 13" model still have reduced PCIe bandwidth just like the 2016 models did. Something like an LG 5K should be connected to a port on the left.

OK thanks. Also, do I need to put the MBP to sleep before unplugging from the LG monitor?

No reason to (if anything that will just increase the likelihood of sleep/wake bugs, though hopefully they've been fixed since I last owned a MacBook Pro and LG 5K displays early this year).

I have an external backup drive connected to the LG 5K monitor. Whenever I disconnect the MBP from the monitor, I get a message on my MBP saying "Disk Not Ejected Properly". Have you encountered this before? Thanks again.

You should ideally eject/unmount any external media before disconnecting it. This message is a general one for that reason and isn’t specific to you using the LG 5K.

Quick question, I am looking to buy the 5k Monitor through eBay. Is there a difference between early 2017 and late 2017 models? As I read on the Apple site, quite a lot of people were disappointed abd had issues. Did LG upgrade or change anything throughout the year?

Early models had an issue with Wi-Fi interference. Units manufactured after March had better shielding. Units manufactured before then won't have it, unless the person/company you are buying from sent them to LG for service. The first three digits of the serial indicate the manufacturing month, e.g. 702 = 2017, February; 711 = 2017, November. Indeed. Turns out I was wrong. Though in my defense, the apple support page is really unclear on that :/

I've had this monitor for several months now. I'm so glad I bought this. Totally worth it and my productivity is very good with the bigger screen (I returned the 4k version, 5k is so much better). No issues for me so far. I have not upgraded to High Sierra yet. Does that upgrade still have issues?

Anyone else still experiencing the sleep/wake issue with the 5K?

I'm seriously considering this 5K monitor as it has pretty much what I want (webcam support, 5K res, compatible with my MBP 2016).

Is this monitor still worth it, or is it too problematic to deal with? Any better options if so?

I will wait for the 34 inch 5k Display and then decide what to buy.

Prices should drop this year, as more provider will offer 5k displays. Hopefully!

CES is wrapping up. Plenty of new options coming out. This one is a dud. I'm going to bargain my pair away for a new 34" as soon as those are available.
