OEMs are in such a weird space right now. The V10, pro or con, was a unique device with a specific niche. The V20 strikes me as just one more "flagship" thrown into the pile. It seems like a nice phone, don't get me wrong. Removable battery is probably it's biggest draw as far as I'm concerned. But, still, even in design LG simply made an aluminum slab vs the previous model's rugged shell. I don't get it. What is the audience they're going for here? This seems simply like a do over on the G5 instead of its own thing.

And it's that painted aluminium that feels like plastic like the G5 from the looks of the shell.

But you're right the V10 still looks like no other phone whereas the V20 looks just somewhat generic.

I don't know what happened to LG's design team after the V10 but so far they from a design aesthetic standpoint have had a very lacklustre year.

I agree, but I don't think that's a bad thing for LG. If they market this right and the phone reviews well, it could help them steal some of the Android spotlight away from Samsung.

Imagine a premium device with a removable battery -- the one thing Samsung no longer has in their flagships. The one thing that is causing a gigantic headache for Samsung right now.

And then the audiophile features, the camera, etc.

I believe LG has an opportunity here they shouldn't miss.

.

Those are the two things I would love to try out on the device myself.

It's a shame it will not be released here without importing making it an expensive gamble. The only thing is LG phones tend to drop in price quickly after launch so maybe eGlobalCentral may have it for sale in a month or two at €450-500 where it wouldn't be such a gamble.

The Samsung angle is a great point. The Note 7 recall does open the door a bit for other OEMs. Personally, I think Moto should be killing it with the Z but their marketing and lackluster mod support isn't going to cut it. The mod concept is GREAT, and well implemented. They just need a better use case than a battery.

I hate you, LG! ;)

http://www.forbes.com/sites/bensin/...y-metal-without-the-compromises/#1c5b72b0739e

"Once upon a time, all portable gadgets had removable/swappable power sources. Steve Jobs, somehow, convinced everyone that consumers shouldn’t have that option. Foreign handset makers tried to put up a fight, but in the end, the Apple bandwagon proved to be too strong, and virtually all smartphones today have its battery sealed in. Except LG."

"V20 runs on a Snapdragon 820 chip with 4GB of RAM. That’s the same setup in just about every 2016 flagship this year, but I find the V20 faster, snappier and smoother than the Note 7 (which has the same specs). The Note 7, as I wrote in my review, suffered from occasional stutters and keyboard lags. I encountered no such hiccups during my use of the V20. This is the number one or number two smoothest/ fastest phone I’ve used this year, along with the OnePlus 3."

"The Note 7 is probably the best looking phone ever made, and the edge display looks very cool (but not too practical), but it’s expensive, slightly laggy and, uh, explosive.."

"I’ve used a lot of phones this year, and the LG V20 is among my favorite.."

"LG phones have always been a bit off kilter compared to other flagships, and whereas everyone is trying to be more like an iPhone, LG has stuck to its guns."

"For people who liked/loved the V10, the V20 won’t disappoint. And for those who’ve never tried an LG phone, the V20 is the one to try, because it’s the best phone the company has made yet."

+ Top 3 smartphone designs of 2016
+ REMOVABLE BATTERY
+ Metal back (less fingerprints, scratches)
+ First to have Nougat before the Pixels
+ Faster, smoother UI than Note7
+ Better battery than HTC 10
+ Great camera
+ Great audio quality
+ Cheaper than Note7 and iPhone 7
+ Less gimmicky second display

No explosions or recalls. An actual 3.5mm headphone jack. No annoying haptic engine home button. Better looking than the iPhone 7 series. Less fingerprints and scratches than Note7 and jet black iPhone 7 will show.

My only issue could be its larger footprint, but seems to have the least issues than all the 7 phones. The fairly average display and no water-resistance is not that much of a worrisome. Everything else looks superb because they nailed every basic need correctly for me.

The moment I read Samsung wants to release the S8 sooner and stop Note7 ads in Korea, I knew they finally raised the white flag on the Note7. Sweep it under the rug and forget about it. Seems like Note7 is getting banned everywhere including NYC subways. Note7 broke by heart like Fredo Corleone did to his brother, Michael.

I was wrong, LG. My apologies, Lucky Goldstar. I always knew you were better than Samsung. Just blinded by literally the smoke and (glass) mirrors of that Note7. Apologies to the better South Korean manufacturer that never wavered and changed to be like Apple like your Korean rival does. LG also corrected its mistakes from the G5.

My intuitions for the V20 months ago (June) was right before mistakenly getting blinded by Apple and Samsung since July. Took it for granted but I knew V10 was so underrated last year and developed a cult following. It was during the last few months where my assumptions went wrong. Sorry! Won't make that mistake again.

LG was always the right choice for me...

V20 = a beautiful, great 2016 flagship with a removable battery that won't put you under some planned obsolescence like the rest of them do.

Apple iPhone 7 will win the popularity contest. Samsung Galaxy S7 edge or Note7 might win awards but LG V20 is the best flagship of 2016.

Nokia. Motorola. LG. Xiaomi. Sony.

The only brands that matter to me. Getting an old Xperia Z3 or Z5 Compact to play along my PS4 slim as well. X Compact looks cheap. Sony is another I regret taking for granted as of late.

Sony = better quality, less laggy UI than Samsung

Sony and LG over Samsung and Apple any day...

October 21 release date
http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/09/19/lg-v20-rumored-go-sale-october-21st-us/

*sigh*

Inaccurate display has got me extremely concerned as well as another boot loop. SMH @ LG.

October 21 seems a bit too late. I could get it release day but I was hoping they release it SOONER before Note7 replacements come back so I can see the issues first. Now I am forced to be a guinea pig. You brag you have the first to have Nougat less than a week or two earlier than Pixel devices?

This, Note7 v 2.0, or S7 edge. Or even Mi 5 in white and a cheap iPhone SE with 64gb. LG is blowing it. *sigh* Might even have to consider iPhone 7 Plus too.

LG sure picked the worst time to release. :(
Yeah if any company should have taken advantage of the N7 recall and thereby the opportunity to release earlier and woo potential users from the N7 camp it should have been LG. They really needed a hit after the G5, but launching when N7 is hitting retail again, a month after the iPhone and during Google's push on the Pixel seems like an utterly counter productive move.

I suspect the V20 will be just as niche as it's predecessor V10 and likely similar amount of units sold. Certainly not enough to undo the offset of G5 reception.

I'd be tempted to get one just because it's supposed to record audio so well in video mode. But I know very little about LG customer service or quality. I've already taken a big risk getting a Samsung Note 7. That landed me in recall limbo for a few weeks and a few uncomfortably hot moments with an overheating S7 that made an extremely bad impression on me.

Looking good so far .....

I really would love to see the V20 in person. So I could see if the skin bothered me or if the overall dimensions which are quite big (almost nexus 6 big) are too much. I'm hoping LG finally get the V20 into carriers here as that will be my only chance of seeing one in the flesh, otherwise it would be a blind gamble to pick one up from an importer.

The V20 definitely is a tempting device for the camera and audio features alone though ....

Looks like LG thinks the V20 worthy of top level premium pricing as well:

AT&T to sell LG V20 starting Oct 7 for an outrageous price

Considering it's specs compare favorably with the other phones in the price class, can't say it's outrageous however, I don't think the LG brand registers as 'premium' with most customers so I suspect most will have a hard time swallowing that price tag.

I fear we are not far away from the days were flagships will cost 1000$/€

Look at the new iPhones, Pixels, Note 7 and now the V20.

crazy right? these things are getting to laptop levels now.

Can't stand the skin but other than that it looks like the best Android flagship this year.

If it's more than $650 on TMobile, I'll pass... I'm only interested in this for the audio output!

Yeah the camera and audio are my chief interests in the V20 but it looks like based on USA pricing this will be €850-900 to import here. Too much for an LG whose prices resale wise plummet. I'll just keep an eye out next few months for cheap ones being sold on.

T-mobile is offering the LG V20 for $770. There are trade in programs that can help lower the price, but with the current batch of flagship killers (OnePlus 3, Honor 8, Axon 7, LeEco Le Pro 3), the existing competition and the upcoming Huawei Mate 9... one wonders how sales will go.

Mine shipped today from T-Mobile. Should have it by the end of the week. Never been so unenthused about a new flagship phone, but it checks all my boxes, and won't burn my house down. Only two phones on the shelf I would consider at this moment were S7e (already had it), and iPhone 7+ (had a 6s so pretty much already had it). I prefer the largest screen possible so here we are.

Luckily I have Jump on demand so I can easily grab a s8 edge in a few months.

Going to seriously miss my note 7. The size is just absolutely perfect. It is the best phone ever made besides one burning issue.
