I have the opportunity to buy a V30 for CHF635 (~$645), brand new with warranty (shop price). The normal price here is 900.

I'm slightly tempted by this, especially given the stellar DAC and the wide angle lens, but concerned about the poor selfie camera and the problems with the OLED screen.

Does anyone with a V30 think these are blown out of proportion?

It's really up to you. I hate taking selfies. I have no idea how I'm a millennial. Only time I'm prone to take one is if I've changed something drastic or it's a super important day.

As for OLED panel, I've had nothing that would detract me from the device. It's vibrant, it's easy to look at, and I'm satisfied with it.

For me though, I've never had such a large screen android be so easy to hold. Most are awkward at best and impossible at worst. Note 8 was heavy and accidental touches galore. This device is literally perfect for me without a case.

I keep it in a neoprene sleeve when I'm not using it. It works out great!

Holy crap! My V30 is getting better and better! I could easily see myself hitting 100mbps eventually. No way could I have imagined that on my iPhone 7 Plus.

Returning my V30 today. Great phone and great camera...but in the end it just wasn't for me.
The V30 is easily the best phone LG has made.

I know you've listed some of the positives/negatives previously, but just curious if there was something specific that ended up being the deciding factor in returning it.

No phone is perfect.....The V30 is an awesome phone. For me it came down to personal preferences.
I like the side power button on phones. I am not fan of the knock knock feature. Those are just my personal preferences.
Then just because the V30 wasn't for me....I don't want to trash it and say a bunch of negative things. That's not how I roll.....
Whats not right for me is someone else's favorite phone.

Appreciate the response. And I was certainly not expecting any kind of trashing the phone. I knew it would be more about personal preference, but was still curious to your motivations.

This was interesting to watch he still feels the Note8 is the best Android out, but really likes the V30.

I like how Flossy does his reviews, he first does an Unboxing with initial thoughts and then a few weeks later he does a thorough review.

I remember in his V30 unboxing he was championing it over everything, but not anymore.

Still need to finish the review.

What I love here is that all these positive reviews of the latest flagships shows how far Android has come, where even Usability and Fluidity wise it's ahead of iOS.

Love it :D

Nice one LG!

Had a play with it at Verizon yesterday. Big likes for the ergonomics, the size and weight and handling are fantastic.

The quad dac is very very impressive as I brought a high quality set of headphones with me for best results.

Oh my, why do I keep shopping for smartphones? :)

Finally saw the V30 in person while wanting to check out the Essential at a Sprint store. Not that I would want to sign up with Sprint. Just wanted to check out the Essential.

I think the V30 looks nice. Maybe the best looking LG smartphone ever. But if you put it next to an S8 and S8+, it would be the Jan Brady of the three.

Haha! I just felt that edge screens are entirely too hard for me to hold without a ton of accidental touches. That and the weight of the V30 just really made me happy. Sitting in a bath for a few hours, those minor weight differences are painfully obvious. I wanted the S8 but it just felt oddly big. The Note 8 was pretty much encroaching on tablet territory and my Note 3 has already filled the spot for if I ever want a stylus (Which is like once a year).

I've found myself enjoying the quad DAC more than I thought I would. I just need to find a good set of cheap headphones that give decent bass. I can't wear anything in my ears.

Overall I've had pretty much no lag, no screen trouble, and battery life has been decent (albeit a little lower with Blockada, my ad blocker).

I still have no regrets almost a month later except that T-Mobile is getting the V30+, if it comes in black I'll be very sad. Though I'm not using up my JUMP for that. Especially not since next year is fast approaching and options with it!

I have had the Nexus 6P for a LONG time ( GREAT phone ), and it's dying on me, and being on T-Mobile and their JoD program, I can get the V30 with $0 money down, and keep my monthly payment the same. I just ordered it today, coming this week. I need a new phone bad, as my 6P is flaking, random restarting and poor battery life last couple of months. The 6P has been amazing great up until the past several months, but then started getting old fast and unstable. And yes I have tried several different ROM's and my 6P is done.

I was ( God forbid ) thinking of getting the Silver iPhone 8 Plus for a second too, same $0 down deal, but a stock iOS device would be brutal, if there was a stable jailbreak out for iOS11.1 I'd get the 8 Plus, but with no JB, no way

My V30 just arrived in the mail :)

First impressions taking it out of the box. HOLY COW :) Absolutely beautiful device, looks very high end, and has a nice feel in the hand, actually great in hand feel. The look and shape is very futuristic. Current phone is my trusty old Nexus 6P, which unfortunately has seen better days. The V30 has a 6" screen and the Nexus 6P a 5.7" screen, but the V30 is good amount smaller overall.

Will install the latest updates, and put the Pixel 2 Launcher on + all Google apps.

I have also heard in reviews, the haptic engine in the V30 is the first Android phone to finally be on par with Apple's great vibration motor in the iPhone's which are known to be great.

LOVING this phone so far :)

I followed this guide to a 't'
https://android.gadgethacks.com/how-to/turn-your-lg-v30-into-google-pixel-2-0180558/

And then this debloating guide;
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/how-to/guide-make-v30-faster-smoother-t3693083

And this phone is like a custom Pixel 2 phone now.

What do you guys do for no ads ? There's no root for this phone, so no AdAway. I tried Blockada and DNS666 neither of those would activate or work, so I downloaded the latest .apk Samsung Internet Browser and installed AdGuard, and that seems to be doing the trick, all my fva websites ZERO ads. And off topic but holy cow the Samsung Browser is freaking great. I LOL'd at people saying it's the best Android browser of 2017, thinking no way from Scamsuck, I didn't thing the Lagwiz guys could make a good browser, but man, it's the BEST

I'd retry Blockada. However maybe you removed something that keeps it from working properly. I didn't do the guide over at XDA to turn mine into a Pixel or debloat, aside from disabling a few apps I knew were not going to be used.
