My 7 Plus and my husband’s has that same choppy breaking in and out problem yours has and we have Qualcomm modems running on AT&T Service. I get a light static crackle on my S8+. My AT&T S7 Edge, unlocked S7 were more clear but had an occasional pop or crackle. My HTC 10, bought unlocked, was flawless and held the signal great. I never conducted a speed test on it, though.
I haven't made enough calls with the V30 to really comment on call quality just yet. However, it's been clear and crisp on the few calls I've taken. My major joy is the consistent data speeds. So far no hiccups on speed and my bars stay at 4 or above.

Yeah, it feels like Apple devices after the 6s seem to have a lot of issues.

This might be one of only two devices I have used caseless. My Note 3 was used without a case because I loved how the back felt. This one might end up without a case because of how light it feels and how well it fits in my hands. It's a super comfortable one handed phone. It doesn't even feel as big as it actually is. Somehow even with so much screen, I haven't had any accidental touches.

Overall, I do wish the back was black but it would be massively smudged like the dark iPhone 8 was in the Apple store or like my jet black 7 Plus. The silver shows a lot less fingerprints.

It's pretty incredible. I'm in my bathroom where my 7 plus got only one bar. I'm going to be even more amazed once T-Mobile band 71 deploys.

When you get a chance could you please let me know how reception is at big big stores (Target, Walmart, malls). I have read your frustrations in the past with the iPhone 7 plus on T-Mobile. I'm in the same boat as you!

Would love to have a phone that actually works well indoors and one in which people don't say I cut in and out all the time.

Some interesting points LG v30 verses Pixel 2 XL by Dave Lee
I usually enjoy Dave Lee's opinion. I share similar taste to him and Michael Fisher where we aren't in love with Samsung's skin and like similar phones.

I used their predecessors and it is very close. If you prefer hardware, V30. If you prefer software, Pixel 2 XL. Whatever you choose, Life's Good. ;)

So far it's worked in HEB (Local grocery store), the mall closest to me, and no issues when I'm traveling. I've had zero issues compared with my 7 Plus. It's a really nice change for me. I haven't come across any dead spots. I'll write again once I go out to the really rural areas, I'm curious.

I am pretty torn between V30 or Pixel 2 XL but the more I think about, V30 is the better option for me.

Can be recognized on Mac / Android File Transfer

MicroSD slot and I can put the card in a SD adapter for even faster transfer speed

Wide-angle lens

Looks better

Probably under $400-$500 in 3-4 months

Headphone jack

Water-resistance

LG Backup is way superior and straightforward than Google's

Software can be changed. Hardware is more permanent. There is a reason why I sold my Pixel and S7 edge while keeping my underrated G5 and V20. Removable battery and IR blaster. Sad to think V20 will be the last flagship to ever offer removable battery while still having a metal back.

And I'm not really the biggest fan of Oreo. Loved the cookies but the update is pretty incremental for better or for worse. But when I first tried Marshmallow and Nougat (7.1+), I instantly loved both right away. Only the slightly laggy LG skin is something I need to put up with but that's easily remedied with Nova and 0.5x animations.

Pixel 2 XL is still a great phone if fluidity and nice camera is your preference. I will probably get another Pixel in the future since it lacks carrier bloatware. V30 just seems better all-around with no glaring weaknesses.

For me V30 is a wonderful phone.

The Pixel 2 is too heavy. Bezel for days. No headphone jack. No SD card. Only real benefit here is if you like updates or you plan on modifying it.

Me too. I tweaked a few settings and it went from good to great.

Does T-Mobile seem like a whole new network now? I might be interested in staying with them if I saw better reception indoors (calling, texting, internet reliability indoors).

Thanks

I honestly thought T-Mobile was getting worse when I started using the iPhone 7 Plus. I was frustrated at the data speeds, the call quality, the signal fluctuations that killed my battery, etc.

Once I got the V30, all my issues went away. I've yet to experience a single dropped call. No cutting in and out. My data speed generally stays above 30mbps. It was a bit of a shock.

I knew the modem in my 7 Plus was bad but I didn't realize how much until the V30. Today I'm going to test out my signal in the more rural areas, it's exciting.

It's official, I went where I originally got no service. Only lost service for a second but I'm still getting 1-2 bars everywhere else. Went through Lakehills, Mico, Rio Medina, and Castroville. Only lost service for a few seconds by the Medina River Dam. Not bad.

-All cities in rural Texas.

That’s incredible. I wonder if there was any improvement with the 8 and with the X.

Interesting what I found on Geekbench.

Seems low for the Note 8. My wife has the Exynos variant and, although it’s not for me (size/weight), it’s really smooth and benchmarks like this:

97ebfad60ca5f0f7963120c433e2bba3.jpg

Still waiting to see the v30 in a store to check the screen quality and to see if the tiny sensor and pixel size https://m.dpreview.com/news/8011829...-super-wide-angle-and-advanced-video-features somehow magically doesn’t fall apart shooting 4K/max bitrate/cine-log.

I guess they’re optimising and expecting most viewings to happen on phone displays so noise and artefacts will be less obvious at that scale.

Still, it looks more appealing than the Pixel 2 XL.

Yep, Exynos is always the best. :)

At the same time, I hate these benchmarks, we all saw how the iPhone 8 Plus blew everything away in benchmarks, but then got smoked by the Note8 in actual usage.

Here's LG V30 vs. Note8
Note8 vs. iPhone 8 Plus

Benchmarks are useless.

Can't wait to see what the V30 does to the iPhone 8 Plus. :)

I am considering switching or at least the LG V30 being my first android phone. Not happy with the iPhone 7s I mean 8 and X, including cost prices and hardware.

From a person who's had an iPhone since Gen 1. [and a messed up 6s since iOS11 arrived]
