Apple stores usually only have "stock" units as seen on the Apple web store pages before clicking on options for a given unit. In the case of the MBA, there are two "stock" versions: a 1.6 HDD and a 1.8 SSD. Any variation of processor speed and drive changes it to a custom order through the Apple store. Then one gets to enjoy waiting on Chinese New Year and bad weather and see ship dates slide way out there.

Honestly, there's a lot of people shelling out for the SDD than I would have ever expected.

<--- Pre-ordered base model at launch, but changed my mind and bought SSD.

Excellent... now how long will they stay in stock? I won't be able to make it down to the Eaton Centre until Saturday :(

Same here. I hope Yorkdale and Sherway will have them in stock on Friday also since I'm out of town during the week. I was told Yorkdale was sold out last night.

i STILL haven't got one. My local store (Rochester, NY) has been jerking me around and no SSD. they let me reserve the only one they had on Monday, and i said i'd collect it right before closing time. But turns out they had sold it by the end of the afternoon to someone else. NOw they refuse to tell me even if they received a shipment or not because i call on the hour every hour.

They say they're getting the HDD in but no SSD. Doesn't make sense. I reckon they got some in, but the staff took them for themselves...

hopefully tomorrow....

Alas, I needed HDD and the U Village Seattle store only had SSDs as of last night... but at least I got to play with one! I must say, that is one absolute sex bomb of a machine. I can't remember the last time I was so excited about a computer!

(And weirdly enough, my husband just called to say he snagged one over in Belleview, where apparently they've got plenty! It's on its way home as I type!)

Plenty of both standard builds at Marlton, NJ store. They even have the black bags. For those of you in the tri-state area this store is on 73 right off of the Turnpike and 295.

Got my (actually, my wife's) 1.6 at Topanga/Canoga Park, this afternoon. It really is a work of art.

In the process of creating an image of the old 667 TiBook, and will start the migration soon. :)

Got it booted to the language select dialog, then put it to sleep until I'm ready to migrate. Everything looks to be working fine.

So CA
any hawaii update?

Yes!! :D

The laptop left Memphis 2/7/08 at 5:02 AM, arrived Honolulu, same day at 9:14 AM, arrived Kauai Fedex 1:34 PM, and delivered, 2/7, at 3:40 PM.

I was surprised it went from Memphis, to Kauai in 8 hours, plus 5 time zones changes.

We were out yesterday until 1:30 PM, went we got back I checked tracking and saw it would be delivered today and I was shocked.

It's here now and all the accolades that have been posted here are ture.

My initial surprise, on turning on the MBA, was how much faster the SSD was compared with my expectations. Apps like Safari, and Mail load in a blink of the eye.

Let me how when yours arrives.

My scheduled delivery date was 2/12.
