I just got back from the Village Point, Omaha, NE store... if anyone even knows where that is...lol....no we don't live in cornfields. Anyway I had my first encounter with the MBA and loved it. They have 2 display models, one of each. You really do have to hold and feel this thing even if you aren't going to buy it, it's amazing. I'm not sure if they had any for sale as I was just browsing. By the time I get some money saved up I'm pretty sure I will wait for the revision 2 and buy one of these babys. This will be my first mac in a long time but I do have another desktop PC so it will be a secondary computer. ON another note, as many have said, the screen is also very bright and the keyboard is way better in person.

Apple Store Schaumburg, IL.

Called this afternoon and they said they had them in stock, walked in 15 minutes later and no one knew they had them. Everyone said they never received them. Then the manager stated, they just sold the last one. Im starting not to trust the Schaumburg apple store for anything.

SO... Called Deer Park Apple Store. They said they have them in stock, but cant say if they would have them by the time i got there. Walked in, told the guy at the door I wanted to purchase the macbook air... "Sorry, we do not have any in stock". I told him "YES YOU DO" and to go check as I walked to the back of the store to talk to someone else. Well... He was WRONG and out comes my new macbook air!!!

Very nice machine! I LOVE IT!

Talk about frustrated! I called the Delaware store multiple times and was told they only have them on display. None in stock. Last call at 12:30pm. Still nothing in stock.

Decided to go down there anyway (only 20 minutes away). I walk in and ask if they have any SSD's in stock. I was then told "yes we have one left". I asked how many they had originally. "We got four in this morning." What the f*&k?

I told him I would take the last one. He walks to the back and comes back to tell me that the fourth and last just sold a minute ago.

I felt like exploding, but it wasn't his fault. I guess I'll just have to stop in daily until they have one.

It's a done deal!

Got back from Jacksonville a couple of hours ago and am finishing up setting up my new MacBook Air! :D

Yes! They got in 10 of them when I called this am and I asked them to hold one for me-5 hour round trip plus I lost out on my $100.00 discount from Apple online store and my gold box discount on Amazon, but it was worth it just to be able to walk out with it and have it right now!

Sweet machine! Congrats to all who have theirs and to those who are still waiting-it's sooooo worth it!!

Seattle, Washington U.S.A
Seattle Bellevue Store had a few: "handfull"
so i frantically drove from SEATAC Airport- about 30 min. drive

I get there and walla, still had some left for me.
I asked for Corporate discount and she asked manager and said "no, becuase these are brand new" I even showed her the on-line corp discount pricing, asked her to ask the manager again, "no, way"

I tell them, "if I had known that you weren't going to offer, I would've thought about and not come to buy one"

Still no budge... So by now I was pretty upset at their UNRESONABLE service.
I never showed emotion, and told them I still wanted one. So I paid full price.

When I got to my car I called Apple and asked them and they said, it shouldn't matter... " you can order online but it will be 2-3 weeks..."

Finally, after this whole ordeal, I drive over to the SouthCenter store, would've gone there first but they were sold out... anyhow, I get there and asked them , so the nice lady says, "... that's not right, we will honor that here and for your trouble we will offer you Apple care w/ $50 discount" I couldn't careless about applecare. Apple does not make products that lasts only one year...I hope not... generally their products are mostly reliable.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!
but this just isn't right!!!!!!

Anyhow, I'm happy that I have my new MBA :D but I'm not happy w/ their service.
It is never consistent.

Apple has great Hardware, but they have the Shi__st service!:(
Why can't they have both?

1.6 and 80. Tulsa.

They told me this morning if they came in at 5, they would not put them out.

So I went by after my son's soccer practice. They were out, but I got one anyway. Grrrr.

They said they still had 1 base and 2 of the higher end ones in stock.

Update

I drove to the Southcenter Mall just south of downtown Seattle and they were ready for me. They had the MB Air SSD, my Superdrive and the ethernet dongle. They were fantastic to deal with and completed the whole transaction in less than 5 minutes. Gold star from me!

I was really upset about the lack of shipping progress since 2 Feb when I got the Apple shipping/invoice notice. The ordered 1.8 SSD iWork was just sitting there at the Pudong airport and had not even cleared outbound customs or been transfered to the FedEx ground crew to put it on a plane.. Still no updates to shipping at 11:25PM Arizona time. Just for grins, I called the Chandler Apple store to see if any MBA units had arrived. They had a 1.8 SSD in stock, the remaining unit of ten MBAs that came in today. I put my name on it and an hour later (about 7:15PM Arizona time) walked out and am now typing on it. I will wipe the drive in a few minutes and reinstall the OS without all the languages and print drivers. FIW. The Gilbert San Tan Mall Apple store still had several 1.6 HDD units in stock around 5:30PM Arizona time.

The little fan was running for awhile, but I think it downloaded all the updates in the background while I was typing. I am using the ethernet dongle now.

The packaging was a first class deal. Almost hate to dispose of the wrappings.

Really pleased with the look and feel of the entire system. Seems very quick to me. I think the SSD is the ticket for a portable as travel vibration is a non-issue. The metal has a very different tactile feel than the MPPros. Almost sensual.

If the other unit gets here before I leave on a two week trip this Saturday, it will be set up for the UK. Otherwise, if I don't get to sign for it, it returns to Apple and I get to go through this ordering ritual again in March if I want the developer discount.

That was a frustrating experience for you!

But I don't agree about Applecare. I have put it on every macintosh laptop I've had AND I've had to use it on everyone. It's not the fault of the machine, but rather they get dragged around and heavily used.

I've found Applecare in that case to be very worthwhile.

No 1.8/80 ?

Hi,

Reading through the threads, everybody seems to have picked up either a 1.6 HDD or a 1.8 SDD in stores. Does it mean that the 1.8 + HDD config is only available online ?

Thanks,

w.

pre order gone

Well, looks like all this availability is the reason behind the pre order button finally being gone. Even though apple.com/retail still has the "check back" message for the MBA availability section.

Or is it to make room for the 32GB touch and 16GB iPhone?!?!?!? Ahhh!!!!!!!!!

Not a good day for the fanboy with only 800KB free on his iPhone just before an SDK is about to come out.

Don't expect to be able to rely on whatever anyone says over the phone.

Yesterday, my local Apple Store told people in this thread that they never had any despite the fact that I walked out with one not 30 minutes before :p

Lesson: You can't be lazy about it :D Apple isn't going to help you out until supplies are truly plentiful.

Just another heads up on getting ahold of one of these. Although many people will tell you they 'cant' or 'wont' hold them due to limited stock ask to speak with a manager and explain the scenario to him diplomatically, you'd be surprised what a long way that will go. I had success with this yesterday, and I think we both understood where I was coming from, low and behold mine was waiting last night when I got out of work.
