I got the last one available at Seattle's University Village store.
Called in around noon, the girl on the phone said they had a VERY limited number of HD MBA's in, and they couldn't hold one.
I'm only a few blocks from there, so I drove down about one minute later.
Almost had an ugly moment when I came in, asked the greeter for a Macbook Air, she said they had them in stock, but I'd have to wait a minute for a specialist to go get one. Took a couple minutes for someone to get free, and just as he was heading back to grab mine, another customer sent her specialist back to grab one, and she got the last one available.
I let my guy know I was very disappointed, as I'd gotten there first, asked for someone to go grab it right away, and they'd been a little lackadaisical about going after it.
Fortunately, my specialist and I, and by now the assistant manager, all stood around for about 10 minutes while the other lady waffled. The AM even went over to check in as to whether she was serious about buying. Eventually, she decided she wasn't ready to buy on the spot, and the AM claimed it and walked the MBA over to me.
Everyone was super-nice, extremely helpful, they seemed genuinely upset that they'd been slow to get started, and were incredibly positive and congratulatory. Two staff members even came over to tell me that they'd all been watching this minor drama, and concluded that I definitely 'deserved' it more than the other lady.
I have to admit, I liked that. Happy Apple customer, and the University Village store has been very good through this process - honest answers, helpful within the rules, and very positive to work with. Kudos!
