Success! :D

This is my first Mac ever, so I don't know how to do stuff like not have backwards photos. But you get the idea. That's a pic of the fancy bag it comes in.

Super-thanks to SailorMike for letting me know that Millenia had units in stock.

I called them, they were VERY suspicious. I asked if they "had any airs in stock" She said oh yah, lots, we just got them in. I asked them if they had any 1.8/80's she said let me check. Came back on the phone said they had none. I said someone just got one, she said, oh, uh, we had ONE I guess he was the lucky one. Do you think they're lying or just confused?

Ok, I can barely type here.

I bought a SSD about 20 minutes ago at the Cherry Creek Mall location in Denver.

I went in there right as they opened this morning and still got the sort of stonewall "we don't have any" that everyone has talked about.

I then was late for my 10am meeting and went back as soon as it was over at about 11:30am local time.

I went in and talked to a kind of newbie seeming sales guy. He said, "yes, we have some" and I asked if they had any SSD models. He radio'd to the back. (Holy cow is this really happening) and got the guy to look. A few very long minutes later he got back to him and said they had one in the back to which I said, "I'll take it."

I haven't even unboxed it yet. I have a lot of work to do today before leaving town. Crap! At least I got one.

Good luck out there folks. It is possible today.

I will try and post my receipt here to relieve any doubt. I just wiped out my info on it.

Time to change my signature!

Just got a 1.8/SSD @ Houston Galleria

I just got back from picking up a 1.8/SSD at the Houston Galleria Apple Store. I called before I went over and asked if they had any, and they said yes. When I got there, I said I wanted to get a MacBook Air 1.8/SSD, and the first guy said they may have just sold the last one they had. He sent a second guy to the back to check, who came back saying they didn't have any more. About that time, a third guy comes up and hearing our conversation says, "oh, yeah, we do still have some because I just unboxed three of the 1.8/SSD's." The second guy said, "well, if they just came in, we can't sell them until they have been entered into inventory." The third guy says,"I know, but I just got through entering them in."

The third guy then goes to the back and comes back with the 1.8/SSD and says, "You're in luck - this is one of two left."

Each of the Apple guys was cool about it - I think the first two guys legitimately didn't know they still had any.

Caesar's AC

I called the Apple Store in Caesar's Palace in Atlantic City yesterday as I was supposed to be in the area yesterday. The sales rep on the phone was super nice and even explained to me how things "work." She said they don't get deliveries on Sunday and when a new product is released and is in relatively high demand, they sort of "trickle in." She said they don't know when they'll be getting a delivery but that Apple really tries to get them in the hands of people who want them. So, they fill pre-orders and also try to get some in the stores. Which is why the "trickle" in... trying to balance the two. I asked if they ever get a shipment of like say a box of 100.... she said no not in this store, but the New York stores probably do. She seemed very honestly chit chatting with me and so I guess that's how it does work. She said when the iphone was released they got a box of them. So her estimate was that within a week or so they'd be readily available just like the other products.

Hope you're successful - the OH just called to say he's got his 1.6 from there (in the event they did get both 1.6 and 1.8) and that the personal shopping experience was great because it helped him realise that actually, for his needs it's perfectly fine. So that's Apple helping him to spend less with them :)

this monday is looking up already! congrats on the purchase. yeah, i've always had a great shopping experience with them even during the crazy holiday rush. i'd pick one up now, but need my SO as she has the edu discount. hope they're still around this evening!

I can't complain anymore. Just picked one up from the Ardmore Philadelphia store.

They're still acting strange, however. When I asked how many were in stock the employees just looked at each other studdered a bit, then said "we don't know". I said" was mine the only one back there". They once again said that they didn't know. Hilarious-I think apple is trying to sell the air the way bestbuy sold the wii during the holidays.

Tysons Corner VA/Bethesda, MD

Sweet, I picked up a 1.8/SSD at the store at Tysons Corner (VA).

I'm re-installing OS X right now.

And of course I cancelled my pre-order first.

Woohoo!!!! :D:D:D

I was in Tyson's about this time looking for a HDD model. Had only one left and SSD model; I didn't want to spend that much so I passed. Tyson's said they got 12 in today and the SSD model was the only one left.

Went to Bethesda Row and picked up 2 HDDs models. They would not disclose how many remained...

Yeah, we they radio'd to the back to check they said there was but one. So, it appears that although they were in consistent for the past four days, this time it was spot on. I do feel very lucky to have scored it, if that's the case.

Just got mine - Dallas

I just walked into the Knox street store in uptown Dallas and bought one on the spot. I called at 9am and they said there were none in... then for some reason I called back at noon and got a reply of "we have lots, both configurations". So, I dont suspect we will have a Wii situation on our hands. It is not as small as the Sony TZ I was considering but I think it is a more interesting and certainly more inspiring machine.

I spent some time at Charlotte's SouthPark Mall store and they had five on display. No madness, but quite a bit of interest. Got a nice demo from one of the fellows there and did my own "cold boot" test on an HDD and an SSD and it was pretty consistent. 29 seconds on the SSD, 45-48 seconds on the HDD. I bought a Super drive because, according to FedEx, they tried to deliver my 1.6/80 preorder this morning and I WASN'T THERE! AAHHHHH! Oh, well. I'll get it tomorrow.

Got the story that a few trickle in nearly every day, but that savvy people are waiting on them in the morning and they're gone by lunch.

Nice shopping experience, thinking of selling off my MBP and going to an iMac for home to complement my new MBA.

Los Angeles - Glendale Galleria

I picked up a 1.8/SSD & superdrive from the Glendale Galleria about an hour ago. They had the 1.6's as well. I don't know how many of each model they had, but I got the impression that they had a few more to go around. I didn't get any sense of urgency like there was only 1 or 2 left.

Side note: Over the weekend I was at an Apple store and there was a customer looking at the Air perplexed and asking where you put the CD/DVD in. I was glad I wasn't the employee who had to try to explain that one.
