Can one set repeating alarms?
- And for weekdays only?

Is the display bright enough to use as a torch in the dark? e.g. read a book at night!
- How quickly does the light dim?

Is there some PIN-code software lock?

Can sleep state be configured to show a clock?

Calendar, Tasks

how do the Calendar and Tasks functions work? (if it evens has tasks). I have had Palm OS for years and am very used to having my tasks along with me. Can you input appts into the Cal app from iPhone? Or does it just upload events when you sync?

Does the iPhone interact with Address Book correctly, either via wired or bluetooth? By this I mean will you be able to connect to the iPhone, or connect it, and send and receive text messages through the address book interface? And answer and ignore calls incoming through address book?

Port 25 issues with email

Just read in a review online of the iPhone: "I had some problems with one of my accounts—sometimes the mail was blocked, other times it wouldn’t send outgoing mail. Apple looked into it and told me that it has something to do with my ISP blocking Port 25."
Cox is my ISP and it does block Port 25 - on Mac Mail, I use port 587. Does anyone know if the iPhone imports your Mac Mail settings, or is it stuck on Port 25? (making sending email via my ISP impossible)...

Does it have a flight mode? If so how does it work. I mean when steve turned his iPhone on it was instant. And it says it only goes into sleep mode, does that turn the transmitter off?

Be pretty usless if it does not have Flight mode as you won't be abe to use the iPod on a flight. For that matter will you be allowed to take it on the flight. As you can't remove the battery how easy would it be for the device to turn on or wake up mid flight???
This is already answered in the videos on the ipod site. Yes it has flight mode.

My question is, what is included in the box. I'm assuming the iPhone Dock would be extra just like the iPods. I'd love it if they included it... I can dream :p :D

Update: Excellent, my question has been answered! :) It comes with a Dock and USB charger, awesome!

Is all activation done via iTunes, or will you be able to activate on spot at an ATT store?

ya, I understand that the ones at the APPLE STORE will be, but what about the ATT store. Does one have the option to activate it there?

* DUN (Dial Up Networking): as one poster already asked, can I use my iPhone as a modem for my MacBookPro?

I really want to know the answer to this. Not whether or not AT&T wants you to do it but is it physically possible to get the iPhone to start streaming data to OSX?

I use this kind of setup all the time and it's a big factor in my decision.

David Pogue said no.

Say I've set the iPhone to check my POP email account every 15 minutes... Well, according to David Pogue's Often-Asked iPhone Questions, you cannot make calls if you are using AT&T's data network, rather than Wifi. Does that mean that if I'm out on the street, away from any Wifi connections, every 15 minutes my iPhone won't be able to receive calls for a minute or so while it checks my e-mail? What if it has to download a big picture attachment? Will it not be able to receive calls for an even longer period of time without me knowing?

Based on my smartphone experience, it shouldn't be that way...almost always.

If you're using data (on all but the most advanced GPRS/EDGE devices) you can't make a call without stopping the data stream. If you get a call, your data stops for the call. On rare occasions (1-3% of the time) when I'm using heavy data, I'll miss a call which goes straight to voicemail.

Edge

Show us a video of downloads on the ATT network. Not just say its poor. Let us see that for ourselves. A simple video of trying to get online would be nice. Whats the point of this phone if the internet connection is so bad and not even useful? Not worth $600 then!

Dude you worry way too much about this. Many many phones already have EDGE on them such as BlackBerries. On my BlackBerry 8800 for example, there is absolutely no problem receiving a phone call no matter what the phone is doing, google mapping, text messaging, receiving emails, sending emails, etc. Because phone calls always take precedence over other functions. EDGE will temporarily stops during phone call, so if you are downloading a web page for example, suddenly a call comes in, and if you go back to the webpage during the call by switching application, you can only read half of the page that was loaded, and it won't load during the call, but it will resume loading after you hang up automatically.

Heck, it even receive phone call during computer syncing! It will automatically stop syncing and receive calls.

So don't worry, every phone makers understand that phone calls are more important than any other function on a phone.

I have used ATT EDGE for almost two years now on BlackBerry 8700c and 8800. Let me just say, EDGE is totally sufficient for every thing you need from Google Map to reading MacRumors forum to reply post on Digg to CNN.com.

To load a page fully will take a whilte yes, maybe 50 seconds, but you do not need to wait till the whole page is loaded before you start reading, right? First of all, your screen can only see a small part of the whole page at 100% readable zoom level. So let's say if you go to Cnn.com or NYT and start reading, it will LOAD FASTER THAN YOU READ, which is the whole point, isnt it? Once you finish reading the first list of news, e.g., it will load like few more screens already.

This is the same with Digg comment threat. Some of those threats continging 200+ are lonnnnggg, and it takes maybe 2 minutes to load, But as I read from the top comment, the load time has always be faster than my reading, way way way faster. So unless you want to view the whole page instantly, or read the bottom of the page when you first open, EDGE speed is NOT a problem AT ALL.

You know MILLIONS of people use BlackBerry for mission critical tasks and push emailing, all of them are done over EDGE. Email receiving and sending are always fast that I don't notice any delay.

Lol, I'm not worrying. I'm not even going to get an iPhone yet. I have Sprint now though, and if I'm browsing the web, it automatically rejects my call and i HATE it. There is a way to change the setting, but its in a hidden menu that you need the phones MSL to access.

- does the keyboard suggest words? if you are typing a long name like "extrordinary" after typing in extro, the keyboard will popup with a suggestion word(s) and you just hit the word you want without typing in the rest, (like what windows mobile does)

I hope if you type in 'extro' that the iPhone knows 'extraordinary' starts with 'extra...'

Sorry it's late here I can't sleep and I have to get up early to get my iPhone!!!

Using it as a modem?

Does the iPhone work as a regular wireless modem (just like my current Nokia 6350 does)?
I.e. can I connect to the iPhone via bluetooth and browse the web on my MBP?
