Gmail on the iPhone

I have heard it repeatedly mentioned that the iPhone will work with Gmail, but I am really interested in how exactly it will be implemented. Is it just going to be a POP account, or are they going to allow for full Gmail functionality including archiving?

1. does bluetooth support stereo audio headphones (instead of only one-year mono audio)?

2. does text (song names, emails, webpages) support unicode, i.e. ability to display chinese, japanese, korean, arabic, hebrew, just like ipod does?

3. will skype (mac version) ever work on iphone?

4. can font sizes for song names, contact names be adjusted?

5. will iphone work with existing SIM cards from AT&T/Cingular?

6. will safari play wma/wmv contents from webpages? what about real streams?

How much is early termination for all the services so that i can bring one back to europe for me?

This was on MR the other day

Boston.com is reporting that iPhone subscribers will have to pay $175 to break their two year contract.
Even though AT&T isn't subsidizing the iPhone's hefty price -- $499 to $599, depending on the storage capacity a customer chooses -- the company will charge a $175 termination fee for iPhone users who want to break their two-year contracts.

Early cancellation fees are typical for mobile phone contracts in the U.S., but the article points out that these fees typically help cover the phone subsidies that mobile carriers offer on new phones. The iPhone, however, has been heavily rumored not to benefit from these retail discounts. Regardless, AT&T spokesperson Mark Siegel justifies the fee by noting that
"There are certain fixed costs we incur in serving every customer who establishes service with us."

Calendar Sync

I've seen several statements that the iPhone will sync with Address Book. But will it also sync with one's Calendar? Will it remind you of appointments letting you set the lead time, e.g., 10 minutes before one appointment and 1 hour (or 1 day) before another?

Thanks?

1. Can I transfer my phone number from a non-AT&T provider? (Even if that contract has not yet expired)
2. Can I password or code protect the iPhone when not in use? (As a data security measure, in case of theft)
2A. If yes, can the password or code easily be bypassed or "hacked" by connecting the (now stolen) iPhone into the thief's PC or Mac?

Will you be able to fill-in a form on a Safari web page?

Is screen visibility in sunlight excellent, adequate, or no good?

Can I connect an iPod and an iPhone to the Mac at the same time?

Can I purchase a phone for my wife without her (or her old phone) being present at the Apple Store? Does Apple need the old sim card to make the new phone work?

How will Apple store personnel verify what Cingular plan I have, when it expires, etc?

My hope is they keep it simple, and let you buy the phone and a plan on the spot.

What's the warranty? Will Apple handle the iPhone's service needs, perhaps at their stores' Genius Bar? Is there an extended service plan vis-a-vis one for Mac computers and laptops? Will "loaner" phones be given if the unit needs factory repair?

Also, how will the software and firmware be updated? Will it be a case of "Phone home," or will it be an automatic feature via a signal?

Support for multiple email accounts?

Can I download email attachments to the phone, then save them to my laptop via the dock or bluetooth?

Can I download photos taken by the phone via bluetooth?

iChat or AIM functionality?

Is there a function for the phone to locate where I am and show that on a map?

slingplayer?

SSL/TLS Mail

We use SSL/TLS in Apple Mail with our Xserve, does the iPhone support it, and will it handle certificates including self signed certificates.

Let me know, figini.

when you drop it on the ground, does it still work?

just kidding.

Can you see the phone using disk utilities?

1. Yes, AT&T will contact your current provider and tell them you are terminating your account. Your number will be then transferred and your old provider will then bill you the termination fee. (Usually between $175-$200)

If you were already an AT&T/Cingular customer (as I am) can you just swap out the sim card from your old phone without signing up for a new plan?

Are there any plan restrictions for the iPhone? I have a plan with a *lot* of rollover minutes already.

Here's one I haven't seen answered anywhere: how do website links work? A lot of websites (including, for example, MacRumors.com) have tightly-packed lists of links that seem like they'd be difficult to hit with a finger; on a stylus-equipped phone you can easily tap on them precisely, and on a keyboard-only phone you scroll through them with a wheel or direction pad until you find the one you want, but there doesn't seem to be any way to reliably select a specific link on the iPhone. Has Apple come up with a clever workaround for this or is it just a tap-and-pray type situation?

If I set it on top of a stack of papers will it keep the papers from blowing away if the window is open?

If so, what is the max number of papers I can have in the stack?

1)whats the deal is if wanna get a shared plan with my girlfriend?
2)whats gonna be deal with damage/theft protection?

Can you access Itunes shared folders on iphone

I would like to know if the itunes on the iphone will allow wifi access to shared folders in order to access my music library on my home network.

I then would like to stream my airport express which is hooked up to my home stereo.

1. can it read/display PDF documents?
2. can it work with google docs and spreadsheet?

Can the iPhone regenerate itself when crashed on the floor?
