I'd like to know, since its reported you can't remove the battery to prevent damage.... How water tight is it? And how do you perform a hard reset and/or shut it off completely, not just sleep mode.

iPhone questions

Can it be unlocked for use with other (foreign) services?
Will the iPod FM remote work with it?
Can it record like other current iPods?
Does Bluetooth do file transfers?

* DUN (Dial Up Networking): as one poster already asked, can I use my iPhone as a modem for my MacBookPro?

forget dialup networking - why dialup when the iPhone has the internet over EDGE. The question is, does it support internet sharing that is part of OS X. i.e. can it share the EDGE networking over airport or bluetooth so my MacBook can access the internet?

Blackberry Connect on the iPhone?

RIM announced in April that they would make their Blackberry Connect software available on the some Window's Mobile phones from AT&T shortly. Anyone know if this capability will come to the iPhone too?

I would love to get rid of my work Blackberry and be able to use an iPhone instead.

Can I change the SIM card for different provider when traveling to europe??
Is bluetooth crippeled as on many US phones?

I doubt they'll let anyone unlock the phone.

Will I be able to use the iPhone as a dial up modem (with EDGE) with a MacBook or MacBook pro, over both USB and Bluetooth?

Questions

- return policy? 30 days?
- warranty/replacement policy?
- can it output video/photos to a monitor/tv?
- cost of data plan?
- eligible for 10% ipod recycle deal (return an old ipod and get 10% a new device)?
- can you use it as a bluetooth modem?
- how does it connect to a wifi network? can it connect to hidden/password network easily?
- push email for non-yahoo mail like .mac imap?
- can you talk and use the web/email over wifi only, or can you do this when connected to EDGE as well?

Connect to an existing plan?

I have a current Cingular/AT&T plan and would like to add an iPhone onto this plan (converting it to a family plan). Is this possible?

The more general question is if there is any flexability, or it is a take-it-or-leave-it deal.

I hate fish. Especially flounder.

I fully realize that the iPhone is primarily a consumer device; however, I have to carry a Blackberry and don't want to carry two devices. If the iPhone can handle a number of the tasks below, I may be able to nix my Blackberry! So here are the obligatory "corporate" questions:

How does the iPhone integrate with Microsoft Exchange? Is it IMAP by manually polling the server or is it Push IMAP/"Direct Push"?

Can the iPhone look up contacts from an Exchange server?

Can the calendar and/or contacts sync with Exchange?

Can content based alerts be set up on e-mail messages (e.g., play a repeating tone/alert when a message with certain content comes in)?

Can content based alerts be set up on SMS messages (e.g., play a repeating tone/alert when a message with certain content comes in)?

Thanks!

- As someone already posted: Can you use a bluetooth keyboard with it?
- Is there a dock or cable connector that comes with it and is it USB and/or Firewire?
- Since it's based on OSX, if you connect an external USB/Firewire hard drive or flash drive, does the iPhone mount it or see it etc.? Be great to grab a 16GB flash drive for extra storage of media.
- Does it have a file system with OSX-like file manipulation/access?
- Does Safari work with cookies? (may depend on whether there is some sort of actual file system) I'm planning some web app development for it and I need to be able to store cookies.
- Can this version of Safari save web pages as web archives? (again, if there's a file system) Would be a great way of grabbing 3rd party web apps, storing them locally for access when not online.
- I see Apple announced the 12th app is YouTube access. Can you access ANY YouTube video that's been converted to h.264, or just the most popular/newest etc.?
- Can you record video via the camera, and could you then upload directly to your youtube account?

Usability:
All the demos show two hands to perform the actions. Can you perform most funcitons with one hand? IE: Can i find a contact and call them with just one hand?

Syncing:
Can i use iSync instead of iTunes? (quirky request, but i just don't see why i need to use my music player as my syncing device for my calendar, contacts, and email)

Updating:
How will they handle software updates? Presumably just like the iPod, they will release updates/fixes that will install through iTunes. But what about OS upgrades. Like...Tiger is about to upgrade to Leopard unleashing tons of new features, etc. I wonder if they will release paid-for OS upgrades so the phone gets new features...or will we have to buy a whole new phone?

Does the contact list take up some of that 4 or 8 Gig iPOD memory?
Does it feel well built? -Don't want it to break into pieces on the first...or second drop.

How comfortable is the bluetooth headset?
Is the sound quality from it ant good?
Is it easy to set up?

Is there anyway to unlock it for verizon?

I can hope, can't I?
Verizon uses CDMA, whereas ATT uses GSM. The iPhone uses SIM cards, Verizon just uses ESNs and stuff. So no.

Does it shave closer than a razor ?
How did you not type "RAZR?" :p

forget dialup networking - why dialup when the iPhone has the internet over EDGE. The question is, does it support internet sharing that is part of OS X. i.e. can it share the EDGE networking over airport or bluetooth so my MacBook can access the internet?
That's the same thing.

Questions

Can you use one of your songs from the iPod functionality as your ringtone in the Phone functionality?

Did it come with any kind of case or protection included with the phone in the box?

Relatively speaking, how how are browsing speeds on the EDGE network as compared to WiFi browsing?

Does the screen smudge badly after using the device for a while?

Does it get hot when you use it?

If you drop it onto a hard surface, does it break? (just kidding)

More ?s

Time Management Stuff:
-Can I easily create an event on the phone itself?
-Can I sync directly from the phone to Google Calendar?
-Can I easily set alarms (e.g., wake-up, meeting reminders) directly on the phone?
-Can I easily view the time without pressing many buttons?
- Built-in timer/stopwatch?
- Vibrate function?

Web Browsers Stuff:
- Will I be able to use Google Gadgets?
- Will I be able to use Google's documents and spreadsheet applications (or Zoho)? This might be a great way of getting around the lack of MS Office support...
- Does Safari on the phone support multiple windows or tabs?
- Can Safari on the phone use Netvibes (and it's built-in stream player)?
- Could I use the Rhapsody service to listen to streamed music?
- Could I set up my own streaming server to listen to music? (that way I wouldn't be so bummed about the small capacity of the unit)

Network Stuff:
- How will I be able to tell if I'm in wireless or WiFi mode?
- How difficult will it be to configure my wireless router to recognize the phone (i.e., will I have easy access to the unit's MAC address, etc.)?

Other applications:
- Can I store PDFs on the phone directly and then use Safari to read them?
- Can I do a voice or video recording?
- Can I print an e-mail or web page via WiFi?
- What about to-do lists (with recurring to-dos)?
- Can I use the Apple FM tuner designed for other iPods?
- Any games like the other iPods have?
- What gets saved when I sync and where does it go? Cookies? Downloaded files? Notes from the note application?
- Does the phone support "disk mode" to copies files to/from finder?

Contract Issues:
- If a family member has Cingular, can I get a family plan and share minutes? How much extra will I have to pay for data services?
- If I sign a contract and a new model comes out, can I upgrade to a new one on the same contract with no penalty?
- Will there be an insurance plan?

Yikes? I didn't realize I was really thinking about this thing so much. I currently have a Treo that I really love. It would be fun to get an iPhone, but not if I lose much of my current capabilities.

Peace...

Wheee

Questions that can probably already be answered:
Bluetooth?
Roaming overseas and making calls?
How is the camera quality? (pixels, flash)

$65 AT&T Bundle at store but no upgrade info

Today I was at the AT&T store near me (South Reno) and there was this poster leaning against the iPhone tripod that had a IIRC $65/mo deal that included free AT&T sat TV, AT&T phone service including long distance, and AT&T/Yahoo DSL.

Interesting, but they could not answer my question as to what happens to someone like me who is a year into my two year Cingular deal; i.e. how to "add on"
