More ?s
Time Management Stuff:
-Can I easily create an event on the phone itself?
-Can I sync directly from the phone to Google Calendar?
-Can I easily set alarms (e.g., wake-up, meeting reminders) directly on the phone?
-Can I easily view the time without pressing many buttons?
- Built-in timer/stopwatch?
- Vibrate function?
Web Browsers Stuff:
- Will I be able to use Google Gadgets?
- Will I be able to use Google's documents and spreadsheet applications (or Zoho)? This might be a great way of getting around the lack of MS Office support...
- Does Safari on the phone support multiple windows or tabs?
- Can Safari on the phone use Netvibes (and it's built-in stream player)?
- Could I use the Rhapsody service to listen to streamed music?
- Could I set up my own streaming server to listen to music? (that way I wouldn't be so bummed about the small capacity of the unit)
Network Stuff:
- How will I be able to tell if I'm in wireless or WiFi mode?
- How difficult will it be to configure my wireless router to recognize the phone (i.e., will I have easy access to the unit's MAC address, etc.)?
Other applications:
- Can I store PDFs on the phone directly and then use Safari to read them?
- Can I do a voice or video recording?
- Can I print an e-mail or web page via WiFi?
- What about to-do lists (with recurring to-dos)?
- Can I use the Apple FM tuner designed for other iPods?
- Any games like the other iPods have?
- What gets saved when I sync and where does it go? Cookies? Downloaded files? Notes from the note application?
- Does the phone support "disk mode" to copies files to/from finder?
Contract Issues:
- If a family member has Cingular, can I get a family plan and share minutes? How much extra will I have to pay for data services?
- If I sign a contract and a new model comes out, can I upgrade to a new one on the same contract with no penalty?
- Will there be an insurance plan?
Yikes? I didn't realize I was really thinking about this thing so much. I currently have a Treo that I really love. It would be fun to get an iPhone, but not if I lose much of my current capabilities.
Peace...
