List of iPhone Questions for New iPhone Owners

Does the iPhone have voice dialing?

Can you listen to music through the speakerphone or do you have to use headphones?

How fast/slow is the EDGE network? (please give specific examples, i.e. how long did it take you to download a certain file size?)

Any unexpected problems surfing some sites on the web?
 
1.) How well does the insta-lock feature work? Does the screen get triggered easily in your pocket?

2.) How does it feel in your hands, slippery, easily droppable?

3.) How fast is the connectivity to wifi, does it take a while to find the signal?

3a.) Does it support various forms of wifi encryption?

4.) Sound Quality? Both from the main unit and speaker phone?

5.) Camera quality? Zooming ability?

6.) Does it support video recording and sound?

7.) Does the screen seem like it'll be easily scratched?

8.) Any issues of crashing or missing calls?

9.) If you changed wireless providers what differences have you noticed, as well as signal strength and area you are located.

All the best questions seemed to have come from my non tech savvy relatives.... like..

1. can it print? i.e. if im on a website, or an email, and am on my home network, can I print to a printer?

2. What happens when you download files? If i'm on a website and i click a download link, where does the file go, and how do i get it back to my computer? I guess the same rules apply for email attachments that arent jpegs, mp3s, .mov, or PDFs which are the only 2 things we know are actually supports.

3. Does it support disk mode, where you can just store files like an iPod does.

4. How long does it take to start up?

5. Is there any way to output its display to a separate screen. (like steve did in the MWSF keynote), or like you can with a video iPod.

6. does there seem to be an easy way of assigning songs as ringtones, or making your own garageband tunes as ringtones?

7. can you merge more that 2 calls into a conference call? if so, whats the max?
 
1) If you buy from Apple (Retail or Online) how do you activate the phone?

2) How many days do you HAVE to stay with AT&T before you can cancel (without being required to return the device)?

3) How much is the cancellation fee?

4) Can you use it as an iPod and as an internet device (Wi-Fi) WITHOUT the sim card?
 
If I currently have an existing, relatively "basic" Cingular contract, can I still continue that same contract, or will I have to upgrade to a more expensive AT&T/iPhone contract to use most of the iPhone's advanced features? (this may very well decide where I get my iPhone: Apple Store or AT&T Store)
 
if i come across a number while i'm browsing on my mac or if there's a number in my address book, can i click a button and have my iphone dial it? other integrated mac-iphone features?
 
How is the battery? True to Apple's word?
Hows the screen quality/does it smudge/is it easy to clean
Hows the EDGE network?
Different plans?
Is it as amazing as it's made out to be?

Prolly not, but there are already SEEM edit hacks that allow one to do so, so Im sure there will be one for the iphone.
 
All my questions, with the possible exception of #4 (perhaps the evil is felt immediately) will probably take some time to be answerable.

1) how hackable is it?

2) can it SIM-unlocked after the contract is up, or if the early termination fee is paid?

3) Are there 3rd party apps?

4) how does it feel to sell your soul to AT&T, and did the NSA tap your calls yet?
 
Can PDF files be downloaded to the iPhone for later viewing or can they only be viewed from within webpages and emails?

How expensive with the ATT plans be? Are they going to push for the highest fees, or for the greater unit sales?

If I don't want the data plan can I still get an iPhone and just use the internet feature? Will that still get me my email?

M major factor in the potential success of the iPhone is going to be how ATT prices it and their required features. They can hurt sales or cause the iPhone to be the fastest selling ne design phone in years.

Can you get to a command-line terminal?
Can you find any way to launch a SSH client?
 
Does the case affect the touch screen capabilities?

Have you tried putting a sim from another carrier( i.e. Tmobile)inside the phone? If so, what were the results.
 
iLife

Can the iPhone discover Bonjour-apps like iTunes or iPhoto and access them over a (wireless) network, just like Macs with iLife can?
 
And now, for my questions!

1) Will I be able to use my own ringtones, such as the 200+ that I have created for my RAZR?

2) How is the functionality of the PDA aspect of the phone? Is it possible to not only sync from your computer, but to also enter data in the iPhone? (I know this seems... logical, but my RAZR won't let me)
 
If anyone does bring the phone to Australia...

1. With which Australian frequencies/networks will the iPhone function?*
2. Will the iPhone boot and function without a SIM (non-network functions, e.g. iCal, iPod, iPhoto, etc, possibly straight WiFi).

NB: Like AT&T, Telstra have been unable to provide definite answers about the 850 Aus band.
 
Flight mode?

Does it have a flight mode? If so how does it work. I mean when steve turned his iPhone on it was instant. And it says it only goes into sleep mode, does that turn the transmitter off?

Be pretty usless if it does not have Flight mode as you won't be abe to use the iPod on a flight. For that matter will you be allowed to take it on the flight. As you can't remove the battery how easy would it be for the device to turn on or wake up mid flight???
