Questions for iPhone

1. If you are using normal stereo music headphones when the iPhone rings, is it smart enough to use the headphones for listening, but the mic built into the iPhone for talking?

2. Okay, who's already dropped their iPhone? What happened?

3. Does the Apple Bluetooth headset have noise cancellation? Does it fit well in your ear? Feel secure? Sound good?

4. Is the only way to recharge the Apple Bluetooth Headset to plug it into the docking station supplied with the iPhone?

5. Are there a bunch more widgets besides the magic 12? If so, what?

Jim

1. Are pre-installed "apps" uninstallable? (say I don't wan the youtube app?)
2. Does it show which version of Mac OS it is running?
3. Any docs or anything in the phone hint to an upgrade when Leopard is released?
4. Anyone with advanced Linux skills want to see if there are multiple partitions, etc. Would be nice to know.
5. Is the "firmware" part of the storage space, or separate?

iPhone Questions...

1. Does it have voice recognition phone dialing. For example, will it recognize the names in your address book if you were to speak them, for hassle free, hands free dialing?

2. Can you or will you be able to play the existing iPod games that you've already purchased for your 5G iPod?

3. Will you be able to use your own custom-made MP3 ringtones?

4. Above all, is it a good "phone". What I'm getting at is, out of all the cellphones that are around today, a very small number of them work well as a phone. If you can't reliably make clean phone calls, but you can listen to your music and surf the web, then it really shouldn't be called a "phone". All in all, is it a good phone.

5. Is it worth the purchase price? Is there any sign of buyer's remorse at all? Does it live up the all the hype?

Internet radio stations...

I'm a big fan of a few internet radio stations.

1. Say I purchase an unlimited data plan, would I be able to stream internet radio anywhere I have data coverage? Would it be good enough to use the function in the car (with good reception)?

2. At the very least, would iTunes for the iPhone support streaming audio from internet radio using a WiFi connection?

3. What kind of battery life the iPhone have while running an operation like streaming audio over WiFi?

Eagerly awating the iPhone, but still rocking the 20GB, 3rd Gen, iPod...
You know...the one with the original Gameboy screen. :D

SIM locked

Does it support foreign language SMS, email and webpage?

iPhone is probably sim-locked, any chance that it can be unlocked?

Can the iPhone data connection settings be modified so that it can be connected to other mobile service provider?

It can't use the visual voicemail on any other network because the network has been designed around that just for the iPhone, so you probably can't unlock it and use it on other networks ne way

iPhone / Diskmode

When syncing music between the mac and iPod, the iPod becomes somewhat unusable because the iPod mounts up in diskmode. I guess that the iPhone needs to do the same thing in order to exchange all the music, photos and videos.

At this time, does the iPhone disconnect from the GSM network? So that every time I sync music, no one can call me?

zoom-in vs. link-click

while browsing the internet, are you frustrated constantly (or often) by accidentally double tapping a link and being directed to a new page, while you were meaning to simply enlarge/zoom-in to the page (or vice-versa)?

Landscape mode

Is landscaping viewing in either direction, clockwise or counter-clockwise? All the demos seem to occur in a counter-clockwise motion.

Tapping on a phone number seems convenient. Does it have to be in a specific format? All demo #s have area codes and they are in parentheses. Will another format be recognized as a tap-able phone number?

I just watched the 20 minute demo on Apple.com and wanted to ask these:

Can you use iTunes music as a ringtone?

Does the phone support games and/or other downloadable content (like ringtones) from AT&T?

Questions

-Has it crashed or locked up on you in some way requiring a reset? Every Treo or Blackberry or other PDA phone I've ever demo'd in a store has locked up on me at some point within 15 minutes of messing around with it.

-Does the iPhone clearly indicate if messages (voice or SMS) are waiting for you? My plain vanilla Samsung/Sprint phone has a red/yellow/green glowing light on it that indicates if there are voicemails or texts waiting for me. That light is the absolute determining factor for me in the morning as to whether or not I get up, or hit the snooze button for another ten minutes. VERY important. :)

-How much is the calling plan? Is it a separate voice and data plan, or an integrated "iPhone" plan, or...? Describe or link to information.

-Does it have GPS service integrated with Google maps?

-If no GPS presently, does it just need a service/software upgrade to make it happen, or is the iPhone hardware physically incapable of providing the service? (My Samsung 900 on Sprint right now provides very usable GPS/map/traffic/weather service for $10 extra a month).

-In the Apple demo movie, when you click on a phone number in an email, iPhone calls the number. But what if I just want to add the number to my contacts and not call it? Is there other context sensitive options for handling phone numbers and URLs?

-Can I print from the iPhone?

-Can I "beam" an address/contact/message to Palm & Blackberry devices? Not send an email or IM - just do the instant-beam my contact info thing like Palm people do.

-What file types am I allowed and not allowed to download with the iPhone? What happens if I click a download link in the iPhone browser to download an application, .SIT, .ZIP, .AVI file, etc? Where is it stored if at all? How do I transfer it to my Mac/PC?

-If I buy two or more iPhones, does AT&T provide some sort of family/group calling plan that shares the cost of the minutes & data plan among family members?

-Does the iPhone have two speakers, or only one? How does music sound on it? How does voice sound on it?

-For the hackers to contemplate for a while after iPhone comes out: is there any way to get Skype or X-Ten some other VoIP application running on the iPhone so I can use Skype or Vonage or other VoIP call service when I'm on a Wi-Fi network?

-Have you tried taking the iPhone apart to see the battery/SIM card? Easy? Difficult?

-Do attachments automatically download in emails with POP based email? Do you have the option to ignore attachments/images on a per message basis so you don't eat up memory?

-Again with POP email, can you setup the mail client so it will not delete/remove downloaded messages from the server, so they can be downloaded again at home?

-Does the mail client in iPhone sync any data with Apple Mail? Messages? Rules? Folders?

-How, if at all, does iPhone's mail client deal with spam?

Holy crap! Do we have high expectations of this thing or what? :D

Will macrumors should turn this incredible list of questions from everyone into a Wiki page or some other interactive format so they can all be easily answered?

questions for new iphone users

Would appreciate it if new users could answer the following questions:

1. I now have a Sony Clie running the Palm os. I have hundreds of memos I would like to transfer from the "memo" section of the Palm os to the "notes" section of the iphone. Is there any way to do this?

2. Is there a search feature for the "notes" section of the iphone?

Thanks in advance. Richard.

I am getting an iPhone on day 1, and I have quite a few iPod accessories and bluetooth devices I will be testing with it. I will report back with the answers to the following questions:

iPod accessories:

Does it work with the Apple Radio Remote? How well?

Can it record voice memos or stereo audio through an ExtremeMac MicroMemo?

Can you use the Apple AV cable to get video out of the headphone jack?

Can you get video out of the Apple Dock? Does the remote work?

How does it work in a Belkin Tunebase FM car cradle?

For all the iPod accessories above: what happens when it's not in iPod mode or a call comes in?

Bluetooth devices:

How well does it work with Jabra bluetooth headsets? What advanced features are supported?

Does it support standard phone protocols on a Palm Tungsten T3? (ie dialing, data connection) (just curious, I won't be using my Palm much anymore! :) )

Does it pair with/know what to do with a TomTom bluetooth GPS receiver? (I hope Google Maps can use it, maybe in a future update....pleeeease! )

Does bluetooth file transfer work with a MacBook Pro?

I can't wait until next Friday! I, and many others I'm sure, will keep you posted!

Is there video-out through the dock?

Is there video-out through the dock?

I'm sure there is video-out through the dock, because that's what Steve Jobs was using during his keynote to put the iPhone display up on the big screen.

Not sure if this has been asked yet:

Does it work when your hands are damp?

The trackpad on my laptop becomes completely unusable if my hands have any moisture on them. This isn't a big deal for it but it sure would be for the phone.

SIGNAL STRENGTH.

How does the iPhone compare to other mobile devices in staying on network? It's important that the iPhone function as well or better than comsumers' existing phones.

You don't want somebody's early ownership experience to be "well, it's a cool iPod, and it surfs the web... but it doesn't get a cell signal in my apartment and it always drops calls on the freeway."

Avic D-3

I wanna know if it will function with my Pioneer Avic D-3 just as my iPod nano does with onscreen displays and controls of playlist, etc.
