Good luck to them in making this claim to Apple after the March deadline. If you can replace them with another app, that’s probably the way to go. Either way, you can leave them a negative review.

They made it auto-width but didn’t update for Liquid Retina (which is what would get rid of the bars).
It seems they updated Word for Liquid Retina and broke the ability to see comments or to put revisions in bubbles. NOT a great job, Microsoft.
Scanbot and Prizmo Go say in their latest release notes that they support the new resolutions of the new IPP.

I’m still seeing black borders on all sides. I even re-downloaded. Kinda bummed about that.
It was probably a bad idea by Apple from the start. Who asked for a minimum screen increase that changes the aspect ratio? Was it really a demand from the market?
amazon as typical is taking forever to update their apps, I mean for god sakes Walmart is already updated. all their apps have the issue. amazon, amazon video etc
