There is no chance the Mate 10 has a better display than the iPhone X. The iPhone X has the best ever display in any smartphone.
Lol, huh?
[doublepost=1509569565][/doublepost]
Out of curiosity, what’s “true” edge to edge display in your opinion?
No bezels
[doublepost=1509569618][/doublepost]
I see a lot of people shouting about “no bezels”. Not sure how are they planning to hold the damn phone without any bezels. ‍♂️
Esp.

Still haven’t heard how it has a better display than the iPhone X.
It's hard, cuz we know nothing about the X other than marketing

Don’t get me wrong. The iPhone X is a stunning phone but Apple is behind by like 3 miles. The next iPhone seriously needs to be top notch if apple wants to keep up.

Where does it say the Mate 10 is $500? I couldn't find anything online.

Except for all of the reviews out, talking about how great the screen is on the X.

Except that those "early" reviews are organized by apple using pre release phone given by apple and with conditions attached (like cannot do or mention comparison)

It might have minimal bezels, sure. Samsung is practically "faking" edge-to-edge with their curved screen. But even that one has minimal bezels. The thing with bezels is also, that something "non-touchable" should be there, so that you can actually grab it?

If you say the iPhone has no edge-to-edge, then well, NOBODY has it, not even Samsung. If it really means the display going to the edge of the hardware.

The statement was made that Apple has "the ONLY edge to edge display". It has less screen to size ratio than any of the current Samsung flagship phones. So lets not say Samsung is faking anything because they didn't make that statement. If anyone is faking anything, its Apple measuring their display size from corner to corner and then removing the majority of the screen across a big chunk of the top. Like a lot of things, Apple is late to the party and then claims to be "the only" or the "the first".

False. It has a Samsung display used on multiple phones.

In fact, given the blue shift on the iPhone X, I would argue the Pixel 2 (small) is a better iteration of the same screen.

Apple is using the Samsung panel but a lot of the technology is their own, and you won't find it anywhere else. Rene Richie has written a fantastic piece over on iMore about it: https://www.imore.com/iphone-x-review

Oh my. Rene Ritchie again. He is not an authority on anything. Apple could release a horse turd with corn in it and Rene would laud the smell.

Also, Apple doing whatever trickery does NOT change the fact that it is indeed a Samsung panel and is susceptible to all the same faults. Enjoy your phone, but the days of people buying the "this Apple product has the best whatever" is over and has been for some time now. iPhone is a great device and extremely well rounded, but don't make things up.

They're saying it looks good and what we'd expect from an oled with good accuracy. No one has said it's the best. We have to wait and see

I love the "it's the best screen ever" people. It's lower res than the Note 8 with worse color saturation.

Reviews are clear: The display is great but no one is honestly going to call it better than the Note 8 due to the matter of preference.

And as far as the rest of the phone: Apple only let reviewers test the thing for 24 hours, so it's hard to know much.

Lol, Tom's Guide didn't even mention what Mode they used the Note8 Display in, and the fact that it got only to 400 nits means it wasn't even being used properly

Quite. I see some purporting a positive outlook (Toms and elsewhere) then a less than great screengrab from Michael Fisher’s hands-on.

Rather than make prejudging it, I’ll use my own eyes when my units land in a few hours. After all, a display calibrated in a certain way showing a ‘colour corrected’ image or graded video is going to be different to some degree.

Anyone intimating fact based on a spec sheet comparison and images/photos online without having ever seen the device in person is offering little more than regurgitated opinion.

I'd take Dr. Raymond Soneira's opinion over a fawning website.
That said, who really cares?

FWIW my pixel 2 has more blue shift than my X. That said, neither are much worse than my colleagues S8 . And I am talking nit picky mode, not general consumer mode.

True, but modes won’t change luminosity fall off at viewing angles.

Looking forward to some more professionally assembled reviews. Don’t care about the overall winner, I just want to see if, or how badly apples implementation of 3D Touch negatively impacted the screen. IIRC they are the first to implement this tech using the Samsung reference design.
