Lol, Tom's Guide didn't even mention what Mode they used the Note8 Display in, and the fact that it got only to 400 nits means it wasn't even being used properly

They obviously measure full screen brightness and the results perfect match what displaymate found
I’m gonna reserve judgement until tomorrow but this is an interesting pic from toms

Wife has a Note8 so I’ll see for myself.

Displaymate has released their findings on iPhone X display and their result perfectly align with toms guide results.

Full screen brightness is much higher on iPhone X compared to note 8
iPhone X is much better off angle as per photo above losing only 22% brightness compared to 42% on the note 8.

I don't think there was any ever doubt that the X would have a top class display. Lots think that just because Samsung provided it, it wouldn't be as good as the displays on their own devices. Which is pretty naive as there's more to simply providing something!

Yes there was plenty of that thought going around lol. Some thought there was no way the X screen would be as good, let alone it being rated better than the s8/note 8.

"Dr. Soneira explains that the Note 8 can produce up to 1,240 nits for only small portions of the screen area. For full screen brightness, the Note 8 can produce up to 560 nits with automatic brightness compared to the iPhone X full screen at 634 nits."

So only small parts of the note display got to those not levels? Some lauded that number like the whole screen did that, saying it was easy to read in sunlight. So I guess the X should be even better then.

That photo was taken by what appears to be a very shallow depth of field and focussed on the iPhone. If that is the case, obviously the Note 8 and P2XL will start fading out sooner than the iPhone X. Why doesn't Tom align all three screens at the same distance and take this picture?

Edit: It is very evident that Tom's used a wide aperture to take this picture. Along with the screen, even the bottom bezels of the phone are fading out.

My thoughts are people can finally stop propagating the myth that Apple is using a GS6 display or worse.

It’s been confirmed numerous times over that Apple is using their own display design which Samsung is manufacturing.

The test results further bolster the fact that the iPhone X is not using an off the shelf panel.

And there were lots of people seemingly propagating that notion.

Mate series is too large. I don't like HiSuite for PC. Xiaomi had it with Mi Suite. Won't be recognized on Mac. I would like to see a successor to the Honor Magic but make it shorter but the screen taller. Honor Magic is a very sleek design.

Huawei is an Apple copycat with EMUI being an iOS copycat. But they actually make it nicer. The themes are nice on EMUI. Way better than the same stuff on iOS.

Quite. I see some purporting a positive outlook (Toms and elsewhere) then a less than great screengrab from Michael Fisher’s hands-on.

Rather than make prejudging it, I’ll use my own eyes when my units land in a few hours. After all, a display calibrated in a certain way showing a ‘colour corrected’ image or graded video is going to be different to some degree.

Anyone intimating fact based on a spec sheet comparison and images/photos online without having ever seen the device in person is offering little more than regurgitated opinion.

Have you had a chance to compare the two?

After receiving my X on launch day, and comparing it to the Note8, this matches what I'm seeing. Aside from the brightness, the display on the X is outstanding. Lots of options to adjust characteristics (TruTone, whitepoint, night shift, etc).

That's not to say the Note 8 doesn't also have a great display - you can't go wrong with either.

I don’t think he was knocking the note 8.
I think he was just dispelling some fud another poster kept repeating throughout this thread and many others.

The main advantage of the Note 8 is the size and PPI.

Depends on your preference and needs. I’ve had Note since the first gen and this is the first I passed on due to the size. Felt too tall and unwieldy for me.

I prefer a smaller device for easier one-handed use that integrates with my devices at home. Which for now, is the X. Wife got the Note8 and loves it. She sized down(!) from a Mi Mix.

Don’t get me wrong. The iPhone X is a stunning phone but Apple is behind by like 3 miles. The next iPhone seriously needs to be top notch if apple wants to keep up.

Doesn’t look like it.
The mate 10 has the worst oled panel in the group.

.......This is awkward but I am pretty sure that is the standard Mate10 with IPS LCD, not AMOLED.

Anyway....

Really good battery test that was though. :)

Yeah very awkward...looks at title of the thread.

A bit biased, preferred display mates review of the iPhone X display over the note 8.

One can say the same thing about your note 8. Bud ;)
Well considering it has already been proven to have a brilliant display, great battery life, excellent performance and multitasks brilliantly, there's plenty to go on.

So, no, you can't.

Go on and clutch them straws though bud you do it well.
