Lollipop vs iOS 8.1.1 bugs

I recently changed from the iPhone 6 to the Samsung Galaxy S5 & i also picked up a Nexus 5 16GB on the cheap to try out Android 5.0 ie Lollipop, which i downloaded a few days ago and installed myself.

I have have a 16GB iPhone 6 of my sisters sat on my desk that I've just upgraded it for her to 8.1.1 because she doesn't like doing updates for some reason, in case she breaks her phone.

What i find interesting is that Android 5.0 is more stable on release that what iOS 8 currently is which has been out now for over 2 months and had a few updates since then.

Now don't get me wrong there are bugs in Lollipop but I've yet to encounter any on my Nexus 5 WiFi works fine and not getting any battery drain others have been reporting along with with a couple of other quirks that been reported aswell, but for me it been plain sailing.

On iOS 8.1.1 the bugs that plagued this OS since launch still haven't been fixed which is annoying to say the least, tbh i glad i returned the iPhone 6 when i did as i couldn't put up with these problems.

You've got to wonder what going on at Apple atm, considering they only got a few devices to update you think they have the OS spot on, but all seem to happen is once they fix one problem another problem crops up, and by the time iOS 8 is usable, it be end of it's life and people will have to go though the new problems again with iOS 9

So as it stands now the most stable platform to be on between iOS & Android is Android.

Also seems odd to me that Apple have so many significant bugs with iOS when they only have a few devices to test.

I've always been one for updating my iOS devices as soon as a major version is released. But, given my experience with iOS 8, in the future I may decide not to update my iOS devices until the .2 increment is released.

Can't comment on Lollipop as I don't have a Nexus. I have an S4 and I'm starting to appreciate the delay in getting OS updates with non-nexus devices. At least Samsung will have tested the OS for me and hopefully identified any major bugs that Google missed before rolling it out.

I haven't tried 8.1.1 yet. In whatever is the version prior to that, im still getting a lot of instability and crashes especially in safari.

The issues they present appear to be for folks doing a factory flash, not those that are doing an OTA update (or even OTA sideload).

The only issue I've ever had with my iPhone 6 is that I cannot type in landscape as long as I choose to backspace. The cursor simply moves over the text and doesn't delete it. Bug reported 3 times with absolutely no resolve. I would not switch back to android for this though.

What bugs am I supposed to be experiencing because on 8.1 & 8.1.1 I haven't found or experienced any... When I read these threads I feel like I'm missing out

8.0 and 8.1 caused crashes and stuttering occasionally. 8.1.1 seems to have dealt with those, things a notably faster and less glitchy.

Can't speak about Lollipop though...haven't used it.

So, let me get this straight: You HAVE seen bugs on iOS 8, which others HAVEN'T seen, and you HAVEN'T seen bugs on Lollipop which others HAVE seen? So, for you (and only for you), Lollipop is more stable. That's what you need to take from this "experiment"
Imagine the people that are seeing the bugs on Lollipop - they are just the opposite of you right now, wondering what is going on ATM with Google.

Android Lollipop isn't actually ready. Give it 5 months or so and it will be super solid like KitKat was. It often doesn't get implemented on most devices for several months.

For the record are those force close apps or system level stuff (like android os)? The switch to ART may be the cause of application incompatibility for some apps. Though native apps shouldn't have been affected.

My wife has facebook issues (don't we all) on her iPhone 5, but I don't attribute that to the OS, I blame the developer.

Well, to be fair I am using the 2012 Nexus 7 and i'm sure IOS 8 works just as crappy on an Iphone 4-4S.

But still, just pointing out that Lollipop is not as flawless as OP says it is.

Ah, yeah not a lot of folks were happy about the 5.0 update on the 2012 N7. I avoided the first one because I had never seen good reviews of Nvidia's SoC's (it uses Tegra3). Mostly folks complaining about performance.

Here is one. When you want to respond to a post on here where does your carat show up so that you can begin typing? Mine is slightly below the bottom of the usable screen real estate, so I am always forced to scroll upwards in order to see what I am typing. Have had this issue since day 1 and I thought 8.1 was supposed to fix it.

iOS 8 for me is a little wonky. Definitely some stuttering and occasional laggyness is going on there. Actually, today I put the phone on mute while in a meeting, the phone still went off lol. My wife also has a 6+ and is experiencing the same kind of issues. Personally, I expect an os to run like this on an older device like a 4S or even a 5. However, to have it run like this on your newest flagship device is a little backwards. Now, some people might not be having these issues but some are. Like one user mentioned here, by the time they iron out some of these issues (maybe) iOS 9 is around the corner. Ios 7 and 8 have been lackluster for me in terms of performance. Tried android L on the N5.....pretty good stable os but didn't play with it extensively.

Just doing it now on the iPhone 6 and it entered text normally for me. The carat shows up right after your quote (next line) and I began typing without issue ...

To be honest I've found far more bugs that irk me in Yosemite than iOS 8/8.1/8.1.1 (even after 10.10.1 update).

This is how mine always looks. It is like the keyboard is just a tad too big.

It's a 3rd party keyboard issue. I have that same problem using swiftkey and swype, but if you use Apple's built in keyboard it isn't an issue. Google it. Now I'm assuming since all of the 3rd party keyboards are doing it, my guess is that something isn't quite right with the API's that Apple has opened for 3rd party keyboards (meaning probably on Apple to fix)... but this is just a guess.

Crap, you are right. Uugghhh. This should have been fixed right away by Apple. It is extremely annoying, and i dont like Apples keyboard. May not have a choice though, if this doesn't get fixed anytime soon.

I had to go back. Couldn't handle the annoyances
