We're all set up for contactless and chip & PIN in the U.K. - I've never seen anyone swipe and sign in my 24 years of life.
Yup we here in the US are a tad behind.
[doublepost=1471744962][/doublepost]
Just to be clear you'd probably want to use Samsung pay as opposed to Android pay.

Samsung pay can be used anywhere you swipe a card whereas Apple pay requires a certain setup and that the retailer accept. I've been able to use Samsung pay everywhere. Apple pay is the platform that needs to mature.
The thing is Samsung bought the company Loop which allows the use of contactless payment using the magnetic field. Apple would have to pay Samsung to have this feature.

The company was LoopPay, and it was a great acquisition.

I'm sure you have my friend, why don't you fill us in with the gory details, I'm sure you're gagging To.. lol
Malware on Android is very real and has been found many times even in the Google play store. However these tend to be very obscure apps, mostly made by Chinese developers which never make their way onto phones in the West. Basically if you download only from the Google play store you are very unlikely to have any issues. There is more risk when you sideload apps from unknown sources. However 99 % of Android users do not side load apps.
[doublepost=1471754259][/doublepost]
Thanks both for your replies and insights. It certainly looks like Android is getting there, but still doesn't sound as good for me as what I already have. If they could just sort out the major OS update delay, I think I'd go for it. Android Pay will mature, that just needs time, but it would be nice if it was integrated into apps and websites like Apple Pay is. It'd be great as well if it had the hardware integration that iOS has, like more apps taking advantage of specific features of a handset but that is always going to be less likely on Android by its open nature; I can't imagine many third-party apps being optimised for the Edge display, as an example.

It certainly is a beautiful, well-designed and overall great handset... I wish I could justify having one as a second line on my current contract to really try and live with one for a bit!
I can't comment on Android pay in apps/websites because I've never used it in that context and I'll say the same for Apple pay. Maybe Apple pay is available in apps/online but I've not come across it. I live in the UK and Android pay is available in the same places as Apple pay. I've only had android pay once and it worked well enough. I prefer to use Apple pay becuase I can use my Apple watch which is much more convenient.

At the moment Apple Pay gets the nod becuase it can be used on the apple watch and it's supported by more banks in the UK, although my bank supports both so it's not an issue for me.
[doublepost=1471754691][/doublepost]
That's kind of a sad thing isn't it? Just can't support a company which gets away with **** should I say borrowed from the iPhone. I tried the S7 and it really felt like a copy on the outside. Marshmallow felt bloated and packed with useless features.

Yes iOS is bland and boring but you know what at the end of the day it works and does the job. Send texts emails and browse, no need for the extra ********.

Feels like another that versus this argument but really it's like choosing a car these days we can sit here and argue all day which is more cheaper, has more features of the bunch more reliability blah blah blah.

Glad you jumped the ship though.
The S7 looks nothing like the iPhone, apart from the bottom with the speaker grill, headphone jack etc. Be real how much do you think Apple copies? A lot of the things from ios 8 onwards have been copied from android.

In terms of hardware the larger screens on the iPhone, ipad mini and Apple watch were all seen on Android first. The rumoured dual camera and removal of the headphone jack in the iPhone 7 have also been done by android OEM's already.

How quickly we forget that all these ideas are patented months prior to the actual release of the product or mind you which may not even make it on the next product but I tell you what Samsung surely must be paying close attention and literally beating Apple to the punch on many ideas including the jack.

Is this for real? Do you think Apple leads the way with removing the jack, several Android OEMs have already done it, as usual these days, Apple is copying Android.

Have a nice day sir.

Is it not possible that Samsung might have some ideas of their own?

Just for the record its only now with generation S7s and a matured app store that has made this switch possible anyone quoting old hardware is absolutely correct but as of NOW android seems to have grown up.

I agree I also switched and this is the first time Samsung has delivered something equal to or even surpassing the iPhone. I tried a few years ago but they weren't there yet. As far as the app store goes I find the play store just as good. I don't download a lot of apps I don't need or games but for clocks, weather, currency converters, etc. There isn't any go to IOS app that isn't available on the play store.

The days of saying there is nothing comparable to the Apple app store are over, eventually others will also catch up. It seems that some people have some techy app they use on one platform or the other that 99% of people don't care about but for your average user either one works just as well these days.

I still love Apple and use their stuff but it is nice to know these days I can quit them if I need to.
[doublepost=1471787075][/doublepost]
But I bet he doesn't know about android malware :p

It's cute watching the Apple fan boys avoiding the form factor discussions that used to be half of their argument. Suddenly nobody wants a cool phone because the software is the key. I don't disagree but I remember the days when everybody said the Apple build quality was a cut above the rest. Have fun when they take the audio jack out and still no wireless charging. :) Now they aren't buying to be the cool kid and fall back in the just works argument. lol

Weird change of events when Samsung users are becoming smug about the superior builds they are enjoying. :)

Hope it's soon

My question is would there be Samsung pay signs be in stores or will it work with any machine that accepts any card payment?

Along with the best camera and the best screen. Those things used to matter to the iPhone. Those things sold iPhones. Those were prides of the iPhone.

And none of us, not even me, had any problem calling the iPhone the best at its time. Now, we have to be far more nuance. Now, we can't call anyone else "best." Which is bullocks.

Just because Apple doesn't want to compete like they used to in these areas doesn't mean they're not important anymore.

I think it will only work in places that accept contactless. We don't swipe cards over here's anymore so I don't think ran function will apply here.

Still waiting on Samsung pay here in U.K.

Why is Samsung continuing to be behind on mobile payment hotbeds? The UK is one of the biggest financial hubs in the world, yet Samsung is losing out to Apple Pay? Samsung Pay is better for more flexible payment methods, but then again, there was a major data leak or hack.

Just because Apple doesn't want to compete like they used to in these areas doesn't mean they're not important anymore.

I never said Apple isn't important. Just gave a few observations of how the arguments of what make Apple great seem to change now as the iPhone die hards begin to squirm.

Arguments like how a phone looks doesn't matter when Apple fans were pretty famous for saying Apple's design aesthetics could never be matched. The hypocrisy and justifications people are making are becoming amusing to me. It is almost like some people go to bed with their iPhones and tell them "No matter what people say you are always my prized little angel and I love that you cost a small ransom even though you seem to have stunted your growth."

Basically all I am saying is it is fun to watch some of the utter snobbery so common amongst Apple fans being used against them. So my latest purchase of a S7E and the amusement it is providing me is also another feature you can't put a price on. lol This year I am looking forward to the new iPhone launch for a very different set of reasons then I did last year. :)

Something is definitely not right in the universe when somebody other than the Apple fans are the smuggest people around.

Samsung have always played second fiddle to Apple and I've had no reason to ever consider one, but Apple is falling so far behind in the last 6 months that I've effectively been forced to get a samsung. I just wanted to let you know that so far its blown my mind how good the S7 Edge is compared to the iPhone 6. Samsung have copied all the best UI elements from apple and filled the gaps in Apples shortcoming. Only weakness for me is the fingerprint is abit sketchy and the back button can get brushed. Seriously guys get that new phone feeling again. maybe ill see apple in 24 months maybe not.
I've been with Apple since 2008. Back in July I brought a Samsung S7 Edge as I was curious on how different the phone would be and also my friend has one and I liked the look of it. Anyway, I got the Samsung S7 Edge and after 1 week of usage I went straight back to my iPhone 6 Plus. I just can't get on with the Samsung as I'm so used to Apple. I don't like the way apps and emojis look on Samsung phones. I think once you're a Apple Fanboy you'll always be a Apple fanboy haha!! I'm now waiting for the new iPhone 7 Plus and Apple Watch 2.

I just switched to a note 7 and I can relate. It took a serious commitment to not just give up and go back to my iPhone. But now that I've got my phone setup the way I like it, I couldn't go back to an iPhone right now. The note 7 is superior in hardware and software. It's just such a more powerful experience overall.

2016 is the year that Android has clearly taken over Apple.

Obviously iOS still has some great features and the apps are beautilfully polished, but hardware the iPhone is probably a couple of years behind Samsung. Android Marshmallow is excellent and Nougat will be even better. The Play Store gets better every few months.

There are still a few things that Apple/iOS does better, but at this stage, it's not even a close contest anymore. Crikey, look at the Note 7. It's streets ahead.
But the iPhone blows the S7 away performance wise, example:

Furthermore:
"The Galaxy S7 is brutally quick but ragged. Apps jump and stutter and there’s noticeable lag, particularly in the browser but even when navigating basic menus or Flipboard (built into TouchWiz to replace the infinitely more useful Google Now). This doesn’t manifest itself out the box, but once setup with all your apps you’ll spot the so-called ‘jank’ setting in.

By contrast the iPhone 6S is silky smooth[...]"

Source: http://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonk...-s7-vs-apple-iphone-6s-review/2/#2512ec4551b7

iPhone 6s has 3D Touch, better Touch ID, better speakers, etc. Can you start an email on one device and pick up another one to finish it with Android? I find Handoff is very useful along with Messages/FaceTime. There are many cool software features I use daily on iOS that I miss on Android, like swiping between pages and touching the top edge of the screen to go to the top of a page with Safari (small example but features I use 100s of times daily). I cannot tell the S7 has more pixels because the human retina cannot distinguish that many pixels yet there is a performance cost to push those extra pixels your eyes cannot distinguish. I find the hardware design and software is overall more elegant on the iPhone side. etc.

I did the same thing. I bought every iPhone except for the iPhone 5 and 6. Instead of the 5, I bought a Nexus 4 and instead of a 6, I bought a Note Edge and a Note 4.

Last December, I bought a 6S and a 6S+ and a Note 5. This year, I bought two S7 Edge phones. I think I will be skipping the iPhone 7 and buy the 7S next year. I want my next phone to be another Android. Samsung has come a long way and the quality is amazing on the S7 Edge.

I have five lines on T-Mobile because I like keeping several phones activated without swapping sims so much.

I must admit I been an iPhone user since the 3GS I have looked at one or two android devices in that time I was tempted to buy one last year I really liked the look of Experia z5p I'm gonna wait till the iPhone 7 comes along but I must admit the s7e looks like a very nice alternative if I'm not keen on the ip7 would also like to add that I own an android tablet and I can't fault it..
