Someone suggested seeing what happens if your search specifically for one of the greyed out songs. I tried it with Face For The Radio: the album Hats Off To The Buskers comes up under Albums, but the song Face For The Radio doesn't come up under Songs (search was done on iPhone)

Possibly an explanation over on Apple Support Communities:

"Some albums in iTunes Store contains tracks that are "Album Only". These are greyed out and cannot be purchased individually. They can't even be previewed.

The same songs are greyed out in Apple Music.

Take the album "How Does It Feel" by MS MR as example.

This is most likely a bug and will be fixed, but reporting it will likely speed up the process. Annoying!"

That's what I thought at first but take the album Retrospectacle the Supertramp Anthology. Tracks 1 & 2 on 'disc 1' and 13, 14 & 15 on 'disc' 2 are greyed out, none of which are album only tracks in the iTunes Store.

I just got an email from someone at Apple saying Tim Cook has asked him to contact me and try and resolve this, so my email above worked. The first thing he's asked me to do is check that I don't have restrictions turned on disabling explicit songs. I told him I definitely don't, so we'll take it from there

Thanks for the update. Here's hoping they find a fix.

The good news is this guy is head of international business at Apple and he seems to be based in London. The fact he hasn't immediately said "licensing issues" makes me think (hope) it may be a bug and not deliberate

Just noticed that on The Killers' album Hot Fuss, the only track that's greyed out is "All These Things That I've Done", but it's available just fine on the their Direct Hits album...

In fact I've just noticed "All These Things That I've Done" is not greyed out on the Deluxe Edition of Hot Fuss, but IS greyed out on the standard edition.

Tim Cook passed my email to Oliver Schusser and he now has someone from iTunes Customer Experience dealing with it so I'll keep this thread updated.

The good news is no-one has immediately said "licensing issues" so I'm hopeful it's not that

I'd consider this particular ommision a good thing am I alone?

Haha. It's more a case of it's a popular and instantly recognisable album. So it's a bit bad that you can't listen to it in that form. No matter your taste, this is poor form not to include such an album in it's entirety.

About that as an example. That album is not yet released (will be released the 17th), that's why only 3 tracks are enabled. Record labels often makes a few tracks avaliable before the release of an album (Singles and a few previews)

Don't know if anyone else has noticed this but part of my reason for trying Music is to get my mum using it. She's getting there but she pointed something out to me today I hadn't seen.

If she's on wifi all is fine but if she's on cellular a LOT of tracks on the few albums I've set up for her are greyed out. This seems weird. I hope there isn't a "can only do this on wifi" aspect to Music

Lots of missing songs in Canada...I've been porting my Spotify album list to iTunes and it's not pretty.

As examples: Bryan Ferry's Avonmore is completely missing and the second disk of Bowie's Nothing has changed is greyed out. It's all there on Spotify.

Spotify simply has more music, from what I can tell. Two examples I've run into today alone: the new single from Digitalism (Roller) is available on Spotify but not Apple Music. The new single from Lost in Stars (Once You Were Fire) is on Spotify but not Apple Music. Both tracks are available to download through iTunes, but not to stream from Apple Music. Disappointing.

Well neither Oliver nor the guy he passed it onto have been back in touch, and I've chased both of them up, no reply

I'm in the US and there are plenty of missing songs. Another one I noticed today - the "new" (actually released weeks ago) Chemical Brothers single. Spotify has it, Apple Music does not.

Out of three new singles I've looked for in the past week, Apple was missing all three and Spotify had all three. Between that and student pricing, my choice to stay with Spotify is clear.

Please report feedback to Apple anyway
