If you required intense workflow, you would have defended it. Thanks for confirming my argument.

I used mine for nearly 9 years and did 3000+ battery cycles and ran through 2 SSDs, the later being an OWC. But that was rMBP but base spec otherwise.

I'm just not sure you need the power.
Are you serious?? I don't have to defend anything. Despite from not knowing what I do with this machine, if I am dependent on Bootcamp or not, you don't even know the specs of my machine and how much I payed for it. I just wanted to make clear that it's ridiculous to advise people to sell their machine when you have absolutely no background information.

My MacBook has "Intel HD Graphics 515 1536 MB"

How much faster should I expect the 8/8 M1 to be compared to what I've currently got?

Depends on what you do in it. For gaming? At least 4-5 times faster.

The only game I really play is Eve-Online and I only dip into that a handful of times a month. I tried it once on the MacBook and it was completely unusable (as expected) so I removed it.

No gaming, just internet, terminal, email, a bit of photoshop, general office stuff and Plex.

I have little doubt that M1 Mac will be one of those "experience-changing" upgrades for you. And yes, it should be able to play Eve Online smoothly :)

Sure man. Whatever you say. You don't need a high-spec machine or to defend yourself to me, we got it! Time to jog on, mate.

Have a nice week.

If it shreds DESKTOP 1050 Ti that's impressive. Radeon Pro 5300M is about on par with 1050 Ti. That means MacBook Air outperforms 16" MacBook Pro in graphics.

yes , maybe the base model, only the 5500M and 5600M are above...lets hope its on par with 5300M because it really is impressive from that tiny chip

I really cant wait to see the reviews.. (although I already have a m1 mbp on the way...says delivery today, we will see if that actually happens)
I mainly want to see if there is a significant performance difference between the air and the pro..id be happy with a completely silent machine if its nearly as powerful.

I'm quite intrigued to see what difference in performance there is between seven and eight GPU cores.

This is pretty cool tbh, RX560 level, even faster. I currently have a top mini with rx580 eGPU. I've ordered an M1 mini to replace it. Sufficient performance for my need, significantly quieter and less space!

The M1 literally has, far and away, the fastest integrated GPU ever in the history of computing. The iGPU is significantly faster than AMD's best iGPU and AMD is a company dedicated to making GPUs (and CPUs).

Like others have said, I'd be pissed off if this iGPU is inside a $3000 Macbook Pro 16". I'm beyond impressed that it's in entry level Macs.
The fastest integrated GPU in the history of computing goes squarely to the AMD APU's in the Series X and PS5.

The M1 is meant for consumer applications & the ‘low end’ of professional applications. Photo editing. YT content creation. Podcasting and creating standard ebb, rap, electrical & pop tracks etc.

You’ll note that none of the latest triple A PC games were wheeled either.

The 16 inch MBP & the high end 13 inch MBP with dedicated GPUs are still available.

That’s a huge clue there that the M1 isn’t intended to replace the use cases that these machines were created to serve.

This makes me very happy, seeing as I’m replacing my 2018 MBP 15” with the M1 Mac Mini. The lack of a discrete GPU was what held me off from prior Minis, but seeing that the M1 trounces the Radeon 560 that my MBP runs is fantastic.

The Radeon 560 in my old Mac Pro would support three monitors. Kind of wish that the Mac mini would still support three also but that is more of a wish than a requirement. If that's the only issue I have with this new Mac mini I will be thrilled.

M1 Graphics > Intel Integrated Graphics

M1 Graphics > My old 2011 mini's graphics

M1 Graphics > 4 year old graphics cards

It sounds to me like the M1 chip is just going to replace your really old equipment, now doesn't it? Which is kind of where it needs to be. Apple isn't trying to grab someone who just bought a $10,000 Mac just yet. They're looking for those like me that have just held off anything new because it just wasn't good enough to justify spending for any upgrade since about 2011 or 2012.

Well, now there's a "good enough" replacement for those old 2011/2012 Mac minis out there.

I've been trolling Apple on the hype machine, but now I am going to defend them. They are rolling their own processor here and at least they are shipping what they have. People can choose to buy it or not. At least people writing apps and working on the future have hardware they can buy.

If it sucks, Apple will need to improve. At least something is out.

It may be worth noting that the X name in the A series of processors was introduced to indicate better graphics performance, I'm not 100% sure if this is still the reason for the X but I think it's an indicator that the M1X which should be in the 16" will have much better GPU performance. It might not be as good as the higher-end GPU options on the current 16", but we'll see...
