Mine is a bit better, my guess is that at say 50% on the brightness slider they would be about the same but the 2021 is brighter overall so I don’t need to have the slider as high as before.
Honestly, I find that if you’re indoors you don’t need the brightness up very high at all. Which is a great thing IMO.

Mines not as good as I hoped, coming from a 10.5 before. It probably would last 8-10 hours or video streaming but I kinda wish it was better!

Which would drain an iPad battery quicker, OLED or Mini LED?

Lastly, would and OLED screen make the iPad even thicker/heavier than it is with mini LED?

I THINK an OLED is slightly less power hungry than the Mini or Micro LED screens, but at this point it’s probably more a function of cost and yield of screen output that drove apple to Mini LED. As for thickness, again I THINK it’s possible for the OLED to be maybe smaller than the Mini or Micro LED screens, but it’s probably in the .5 to 1 MM range maybe. Again, also probably a function of cost and yield of output that will take some more time and other OEM’s to get both this more in line with the margin they need.

Still pretty pleased. Mostly used for Safari and some Hulu streaming.

Considering battery life hasn’t been great for a lot of people on 14.6.

Battery life looks like it’s finally settled down, hopefully it will keep improving with the next software update.

Currently on 65% bit of gaming, safari and YouTube, 3h35m usage.

getting around 8 hours usage.

Like I said earlier, I played 6 hours, 20 minutes of video including 3 HDR movies and had 47% battery left afterwards. This was on 14.6.

Very impressive 👌 video playback must not be as taxing on the battery.

It feels like browsing the web with Safari drains the battery life way faster than video playback. Even 25% brightness web browsing vs 50% brightness and bluetooth headset movie watching drains way faster.
How is this possible?

Hmmm, maybe it’s not my magic keyboard then, or maybe it is 🤦‍♂️😂 I’m more confused than you lol.

Took mine off the charger very early this morning around 3am, iPad has been inside the magic keyboard case the whole time.

Mainly using safari.

61% battery left for just under 3h usage so far 🥺 will keep using the magic keyboard, if it ends ups being the cause of this battery drain it might have to go back 🤔

also on low brightness between 30-40%

I'm also using a magic keyboard. I will stop the time and see how much exactly it drains.

Please keep me updated as I’ve got 2 weeks to return it lol.

What battery life are getting when using the magic keyboard?

I’ve also turned the backlit keyboard off, doesn’t seem to make a difference.

I’ve been finding the battery life to be a bit poor; only really using Safari and Outlook haven’t done much media viewing yet; also using the magic Keyboard but have taken the advice to turn off the backlight and see if that helps.

If I can get close to the 9 hours then I don’t mind too much; while its less than I would have got from my old Galaxy S7+ on Android; its still more than I can get out of my work Surface Laptop 4 (AMD); that said the Surface battery will go for 8-9 hours if I’m just doing work, browsing, etc; but as soon as I use Zoom or Teams the battery takes a massive hit!

I’ve had my backlight turned off since i got it yesterday, doesn’t seem to be helping.

Currently at 50% for 3h50m usage, battery is dropping really quickly.

I’ll give this keyboard a week and see if battery life improves, really enjoying using this magic keyboard, but I’m not paying $500 for a keyboard that drains the crap out of the battery,

What’s your total usage while using the magic keyboard before charging again?

Something definitely ain’t right with the software or this magic keyboard, just lost 5% in the space of 10 minutes while browsing safari.

I’ll keep a proper eye on it today; just taken it off charge and planning on using it all day now for work emails, web browsing and YouTube!

Thanks mate, keep us posted, realised when i come back to my iPad after a while and open the magic keyboard it loses a couple of percent straight away, lost 5% in the space of 10 minutes while browsing safari just before. 🤦‍♂️

Really enjoying this keyboard, be a shame if i had to return it because of battery issues. 🥺

My M1 12.9 is also having the same poor battery performance you guys are mentioning. But also it’s running hot just using safari. Seems like a software issue, hopefully it is fixed asap.

Honestly reckon its macrumors forum, i’ve lost 5% writing one post before and another 4% writing another post now.

Safari has the loading animation up in the top right corner most of the time only on these forums

I’m not going to use these forums on my iPad tomorrow and see if battery life improves.

JavaScript can be quite taxing. It takes a lot of power to display those animated ads on every page.

Last I checked, the MacRumors website front page is a 5MB download.

Guys. The magic keyboard does have something good.. Just plug the keyboard in to power supply and it wirelessly charges your iPad :) What other keyboard does that? I understand it can drain battery fast, maybe the IPadOS is not 100% optimized to both the iPad and keyboard for battery life. Contact the apple store and find out if it’s normal for the keyboard to drain battery too quickly.

I have not purchase keyboard because I never use it. I do have the magic keyboard that came with my ol 2013 iMac not in use that I can pair with this iPad but I don’t do much typing :)

There is something to the macrumors page being an issue. Saw it on another thread and it explained why my iPad kept getting hot (under the apple logo on the back) while just on safari...I was on Macrumors! installed an adblocker and that seems to have worked.

Ive got both right now, it seems that on 50% brightness, playing YouTube continuously on through safari (not full screen so all pixels stay lit), Im getting between 10-15% drain per hour. Not terrible but not great. Full screen video playback is better (Assuming because top and bottom bar pixels aren't lit).

The 11" has been much better. Been playing YouTube continuously on safari from 10am (100%). Its now 2:18pm and batter is at 71%, this is at 50% brightness.
