Honestly have no idea, got updated 2 days ago, but YouTube being YouTube, their update info is always trash lol.
Saying that though, we haven't heard any comments about 11" iPad Pro 2021 battery drain

So it must be these mini led's and the way it performs with videos and gaming

Yes, interested to see some experiences of battery life on the 11".

Looks like YouTube and gaming are the biggest culprit for battery drain at the moment.
My usage is more or less split between Safari and YouTube and I have great battery life. I am getting better battery life than my previous 2020 model now after that one day that was strange. Might be because I need a lower brightness setting with the brighter mini-led.

I reckon give them a couple of weeks, they just came out, hopefully apple release a few updates for these new iPads and developers get off their lazy bottoms and start optimising.

Wouldn't say battery life is terrible, just not consistent, I'm putting it down to mainly gaming and games not being optimised.

Alright starting the day at ?... Keeping brightness at 35%. Battery life right now is my top reason I may be return it. Need the thing to be able to last a day at least and it’s close but not quite there. I have the 12 Pro Max and M1 MBA so I have been spoiled with not having to really worry about it with those devices.

Yeah, I can now report all my troubles are gone. Been using it a lot today and some last night, total of 5 hours and 40 minutes plus around 14 hours of standby used up 43% of the battery (100% to 57%). Last night I was at around 10-20% brightness and today around 35%, always connected to the magic keyboard and mostly Safari/YouTube usage and using my AirPods connected to it 70% of the time.

I wonder if it was me turning off the backlit keyboard that made the difference…

Did you update to 14.6? Mine was noticeably better yesterday with it.

Yes but I did also notice an improvement before that so I was suspecting the brightness of the magic keyboard, the great battery life I am seeing right now might be a combination of the two though.

I use my 2018 at 100% brightness... anyone with the 2021 do theirs comparable to what I am doing? How is battery life at higher settings?

^That video does just that. Honestly this is exactly as I expected. At Peak brightness the M1 12.9inch comes in about 30 minutes LESS than the M1 11inch, more evidence to backup the Mini LED being more power hungry at higher brightness.

Today mine’s at 68% after 11 hours. Not been using it as much today but I think this is a more realistic finding than the past few days where I was using it constantly (because it’s new?). Just used it today to check emails and read the news. First week I had it on permanently, watching TV on it. Still got the 10 hours on a full charge yesterday so I’m happy with the battery.

Going to give my iPad a thrashing today without gaming, mainly safari and YouTube, and see what the battery life difference is. Currently on 91% for 1h8m usage.

Anyone doing any audio production/music making with their new 2021 IPP? Keen to see how battery stands up in that use case. TIA!

I did a test over the past 2.5 days and got just over 9.5 hours with a lot of cross app usage. Safari was 3.5 hours of the total, YouTube was 3 hours of the total, with ~ 40 minutes of that being 4K-8K HDR content testing (which IS really pretty astounding). I did some camera testing, 1.2 hours of email and the rest being screen on and other apps. Oh, and 40 minutes of xfinity tv streaming (which, BTW appears to use nearly ZERO power - so that will be my new remote streaming app for TV content). I was at or above 50% brightness for most of the time, with actually below 50% when watching some HDR content (the whites are quite bright in HDR, so taking it down a bit helps). I’m okay with this amount of battery performance for now and I think that some iOS optimization is probably going to come in future releases.

Are any 11" 2021 iPad Pro users following this thread?

Can you please advise are you getting the quoted 10 hours and is it performing as intended?

EDIT: I have created a new 11" Battery thread to keep things separate :)

So what's the consensus on the new M1 12.9 battery life? I'm still debating whether to upgrade from my 12.9 2020 iPad Pro, and the battery on that thing is pretty poor, probably the worst thing about it...

Feels like slightly worse, maybe ~1 hour shorter. To me it's not a big deal but might be more important in your use case.

I have been using my iPad since 8am my time, browsing forums, Amazon, etc. It’s now 11:20am and it’s at 81%. There are a couple apps not fully optimized for the new iPad, so I am frequently checking the App Store for various updates. One of the games that I occasionally play will not boot up on this new iPad, so will have to wait on that update. On my next day off I’ll be seeing how long the iPad battery last playing Titan Quest. :)

Having created the 11" Battery thread, a few people are saying this very website in Safari seems to make their iPad hot at the back, and presumably run the battery down more (not that MR will have this alert on their front page) ;)

Can anyone test viewing this website, then try removing that tab from Safari and see how it fairs?
