Yes I’d be worried. It shouldn’t be doing that. I always use a PD 30 USB-C minimum charger. Haven’t had an issue personally.
Are you at Max brightness though? and they probably are using the provided 20 watt charger, those extra 10 watts could be the difference too.

I use my 2018 at 100% brightness... anyone with the 2021 do theirs comparable to what I am doing? How is battery life at higher settings?
100% brightness ??? my eyeballs would pop out of my head and be sore like no tomorrow, I'd last 2 seconds at max brightness ?

At 100% brightness 24/7, you'd be lucky to get 3 hours on any device ?

At lower brightness it really does use a lot less. Been around 15-20% now during the evening, been using it for an hour and 15 minutes and it has used 5% battery (100-95%) but I am suspecting it is not completely linear.

All my usage is attached to the magic keyboard so that adds some extra power draw.

Got a wifi model, 5% gone 44m, hope it stays like this, thinking the poor battery life at the start was due to gaming, most likely the game hasn‘t been optimised yet.

Gaming will drain the battery much faster than regular usage. It’s a worst case scenario for mobile devices, really.

You guys are going to be my eyes ears so to speak.

I’m now offshore working with my 12.9 and I have absolutely no chance in the next 3 weeks to update any Apps due to crap Wi-Fi. I’ll still be able to use it normally so will see how battery life improves over the course of 3 weeks while I’m away and hopefully it beds in…I hope!

So please update this thread if anyone notices any improved battery results with the ongoing Apps being updated over time thanks

Hi mate, I changed my username so you might not recognise me but it’s me!

Do you get the cellular model then seeing the WiFi’s crap?

Anyone using the PaperLike screen protector? If so what are you setting the brightness at?

With my Air 4, I kept it connected to a power source via the Magic Keyboard USB-C port at all times and it stayed at a full 100% charge all of the time. However, with my M1 12.9” iPad Pro, I tried to same thing and it’s actually losing battery life while it’s plugged in. Is this a reason for worry?
FYI, the USB port on the Magic Keyboard is limited to 22W. If you plug in directly to the port on the iPad it can (depending on your charger) deliver more power (30W, I think).

every display is more power hungry at brighter levels, one thing the tech world can't solve easily.
You are right but I think (being the keyword) though because of the Mini LED it’s probably burning the battery faster than the previous gens/11 inch. Again this is an assumption no actual scientific proof.

The only time I can picture myself at max brightness is outside in direct sunlight. Which I couldn't stand for very long personally anyway. I wouldn't turn on max brightness viewing inside or shade.

Today I let the iPad dwindle down to about 30%… From a full ? charge yesterday morning.

I don’t think that’s too bad considering I have been playing with it on and off quite frequently. Mainly sending texts, playing music, a few videos on YouTube and Safari browsing. I’ve dabbled with procreate a tad. That’s an overwhelming app right there.

I’ve also downloaded a couple of different apps as I’m just trying to figure out this interface…

I’ve been playing around to see if you could that’s it but I need it for work. So far it is a struggle there. And the other struggle I’m experiencing is not being terrified to put the Apple Pencil to a screen with no screen protector applied. I really hate the idea of having to put one on the gorgeous device.

I just started a new thread - I think my 2018 display is defective, so that's why I needed it so bright.... I wasn't actually planning to get a new 12.9, ordered by accident. It is absolutely gorgeous!!!

Update, 32% left 6h6m usage, keep in mind playing a game that hasn’t been updated yet, so it’s most likely not optimised for the M1 iPads. Happy with this usage so far. ?

Well….the Europa League final (man I hate penalties!) took it to under 10% but 14.6 seems to be better than 14.5.1. Definitely more consistent at least. Will continue to monitor.

Brightness (no surprise here) still looks to be the driving factor in extending battery life and from the anecdotal evidence I’ve seen the Mini LED technology could drain faster than the non Mini LED displays from previous gens/11 inch.

Was about 10% left.

luckily battery life has gotten better but I think on normal usage it’s fine but when you go to YouTube if you use that for like 2-3 hours that’s what is destroying the battery
Been using mine about 6-7 hours a day. Work stuff email/remote support and safari/YouTube. Now ending the day with 40-50% battery remaining which puts it on a par with my 2018 model.

Looks like YouTube and gaming are the biggest culprit for battery drain at the moment.
