Had one issue today where I couldn't close any app running. Couldn't even restart because MacOS was complaining that it cannot close apps. Some apps closed with force quit but only after minutes. Eventually, I was able to shut down the computer and after the restart everything is OK.

Did you look in activity monitor at the time for any hung process or problem with ram?

My m1 mbp has a black screen half the time when waking from sleep. Restarting makes screen work again. Still broken on 11.2

That's not an M1 issue. That's software.

Hi, i've noticed since a week now that i hear one "tick" from the bottom case about a minute after starting my MBA M1 in the morning. No more noise during the day, but it starts again the morning or day after after starting it. No other issues but still weird enough...

Hello guys, I bought an M1 MBP (MacOS Big Sur) & used the Migration Assistant to copy data from my 2019 16" MBP (MacOS Mojave 10.14.6).
Things work fine on the M1 but the touch bar is messed up - the behavior is different (& crappy) from the default touch bar behavior on a new user accnt on the M1 (vs the existing accnt I migrated from the 16" MBP).
Eg. when I touch the touch bar, it'll show me a stupid circle that traces the movement of my finger on the touch bar instead of actually doing any useful action - terribly annoying! Whereas in the default touchbar behavior (for a new accnt on the M1) it'll do smart things like automatically start changing the brightness soon as I touch the brightness icon on the touchbar and start sliding my finger, etc.
No matter what touch bar settings I do on the M1's migrated accnt, I can't get the clean touchbar behavior I want on the M1 (I created a new user accnt on the M1 and do see the behavior I expect - but not on the migrated accnt)

So my question is - does anyone know how to reset the touchbar completely to default on MacOS Big Sur for an existing (migrated) user account?
Thanks in advance !

Here's the BetterTouchTool notification I've been receiving saying there's a USB Device constantly disconnecting. Besides my attached external drives (which would have to unmount/mount again, so it's not them), I've got a Logitech WebCam and a USB eLicenser. Both of those have also been having no issues with disconnects or anything like that. Hard to say what this could be.

Clicking the notification doesn't open BetterTouchTool, BTW.

Weird situation. I noticed during a copy from a TB3 drive to the M1 Pro that the part where it counts the files for copying got slower than previously. Then adding Audible books to iBooks caused it to hang. The rest of the system responded OK, but it was "flaky" in parts. So I reboot...and the reboot hangs with the progress bar at half way. I tried several times, no reboot. tried safe mode. Same thing. Oh oh. Went into maintenence and ran Disk Repair. That also seemed to hang (though I might now have waited long enough, 20 minutes on a 1TB driuve), but the last thing it said was an error:

"Error: cross check"

...followed by a bunch of numbers. It never seemed to get past that, after several tries.

Then, suddenly, as quickly as it happened, it ended. It booted OK. Ran Disk Repair - no issues found. I ever ran the built in Diag program, and no issues. Its like nothing was ever wrong.

I know this is new tech, with its unified memory and such. But this was really odd.

Just wanted to report it to this thread, in case anyone else saw something similar.

Monday received my M1 16/512 MacBook Air. Right out of the box when the Air would sleep, either from a closing the lid or when the screen slept, it would shut down completely. Was impossible to reboot without holding down the powerbutton for 10 seconds. Genius bar took a look at it and agreed to a refund. Frustrating.

Must be frustrating as this must be a custom order and take a while for you to receive it.

Unless a quick replacement is provided I'd erase and clean install Big Sur 11.2.1 to see if the issue goes away. Seems like most issues are software related.

Not sure if this is Big Sur or M1 related, in finder Command+Up does nothing while it used to go to the parent directory.

Having migrated from Lenovo-Ideapad/Linux Mint to Macbook Air M1/macOS Big Sur, the only issue I have sofar is that the Card Reader software for the Finnish Identity Card does not work ( https://dvv.fi/en/card-reader-software ).
The software installs ok, the card reader and id card are correctly detected and recognized, but loading of the appropriate software module in Firefox does not work (Safari is not supported since version 12). Apparently this is a known issue with the M1 devices.

At first everything was great. Then some time later i got beachballs from time to time in Safari - noticed most happens on my work's website. Thought it is bad site code, until i started getting beachballs somewhere else.
Finally suspected 1Blocker and uninstalled it. Surprisingly now safari opens websites even faster than before with 1blocker. No beachballs for now, have to check that for some time.
Though, youtube ads would annoy me.

Pay $1.99USD on the App Store for WIPR and your troubles are forever gone. It runs extremely smooth in the background. Blocks ALL ad types with zero hitches. You can also customize what you want blocked or how much of the site info gets blocked. The developer is also very good with updates. Free adblockers seriously suck. Got WIPR and never looked back.

Get a $40 Raspberry Pi and install free Pi-Hole on it. Then have your computers use the Pi as their DNS server. The Pi-hole software has a database of ad servers and malware sites that it blocks. Looking at my stats, this week it blocked over 40% of the sites referenced on various web pages. Sites run much faster without ads.

But, do contribute to sites you frequent like MacRumors to compensate for the lost ad revenue.

Thank you very much! I've heard a lot about Pi-Hole, but never knew how to use it. Your comment was really easy to understand about deployment.

Sure, sounds great.
