Error: SOCD report detected: (AP watchdog expired)
Link: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252437781?answerId=254720500022#254720500022

Apparently, the above error happens if you have an external drive connected. Priceless. The question I now have is this, if one has said drive connected for Time Machine backups, how is one to backup or even restore their M1 Mac?

Hmm...
I’ve got 3 WD external drives and 2 G-Raid drives connected to a Belkin Thunderbolt 3 Dock Pro. M1 MBP 16GB/2TB model. I’m still getting kernel panics when rebooting and connected to the dock.

Further update:
Just looked in my 'IT box', and found a USB A to USB C adapter. I have since disconnected my Time Machine backup drive that was connected to USB A, and used the adapter to connect it to the Mac Mini.

Let's see if this error, "SOCD report detected: (AP watchdog expired)" happens again.

PS: Maybe it is just me, but, already feel as if my mouse is moving MUCH better than it was...
That's how I connect my old USB HDD, with an Apple USB-A to USB-C adaptor - not through my Caldigit TS3+, normally, though I've done that too.

Beach Ball Hell for me. Just posted details, but the quick version: Shipped it back to Apple and bought a current 16” MBP instead.
I get that every so often, especially in Photoshop. Hopefully they will have all M1 versions at some point.

I have a 10 port USB type-A Aukey hub (Powered, but not PD) connected via an Apple USB-A to USB-C Adapter, and connect 3 External Drives to my M1 MBP and the drives are always super super slow to connect when rebooting, and sometimes Finder beachballs.. I have 5 External Drives, though. And I kinda need them, so I deal with it until I can find a better solution (Dock that has MANY USB-A 3.0 ports & Power Delivery). I also have a Belkin TB3 Dock Pro connected to my other MBP’s USB-C Port (W/ PD). I’ve been reporting to Apple in the Feedback app, and I HOPE someone’s looking. I’m also usually an optimist.

My M1 MacBook Pro has started freezing up and rebooting about once a week. The screen goes white and/or purple for a second too, I believe. It seems to happen randomly but for some reason I'm thinking it's Bluetooth-related, as I've been having a lot of issues with my Magic Mouse and Magic Keyboard since getting them. Any solutions or more information?

My M1 Mini is having some weird issues with peripherals:
  • My wireless (usb receiver based) mouse is intermittently losing connection.
    • I originally thought this was a hardware issue with the mouse, but I have tried others including a twin of it that's on my work computer and I get the same issue.
    • When I remove and re-insert the receiver, everything starts working again.
    • Here's the kicker - the INSTANT I open Software Update, the mouse issue occurs. This is consistently reproducible.
  • Certain other USB peripherals are randomly disconnecting. This includes an eHDD, an external SSD, and a USB-C docking station I repurposed for easy port access.
These issues have been happening more or less the entire time I've had the computer, mostly running betas.

Having some weird USB issues with a brand new M1 Mac Mini. Devices including USB mouse/keyboard randomly disconnect and don't return even after rebooting. Devices only come back when they are unplugged and then plugged back in. Anybody else having similar issues? I created a thread in the Mac mini forum but no replies as of yet.
I too have a Mac Mini M1 with the latest OS but I don't have the problems you experience.
I have the Hagibis hub with a 500GB SSD in it connected to one USB-C port and the only problem I have is that I now and then get messages that the device wasn't properly disconnected.

Is your mouse's USB receiver plugged into the dock or the mini direct?
I had a problem with USB mouse when plugged into my Caldigit TS3+ which cleared up completely when I plugged the receiver into the M1 MBA.

same exact behavior no matter where it’s plugged in. I might end up switching to a BT mouse. Sucks because Bt vertical mice are $$$$

SUPER HAPPY with my MBA (fastest Mac ever!).

Things:

1) Silent click does nothing. Still producing a clicking sound; maybe it is normal. Not a big issue. WORKAROUND: I can tap instead.

2) My photo stream does not work. I tried many things, rebooting... It's enabled but no photos. Works in all other devices, Macs and iPhone/iPad. Go figure. WORKAROUND: I found none. Waiting for a fix (I'm on 11.2.1).

3) External monitor resolution not supported. Strange thing happened: I plugged an old DELL 24" using DisplayPort and it worked perfectly well (right resolution) immediately. But I noticed that it was not set to Default for Display, it was Scaled but... no resolution selected there, and the right one (1900x1200) was NOT even in the list. As fool as I am, I tried them all (none worked well, of course) but then there was no way to go back to the good one. WORKAROUND: SwitchResX. Hoping for a Big Sur update to fix this.

This are all minor annoyances. The worst is Photo Stream. Anyway, the machine is superb. Still getting used to the keyboard, but I think I will. SSD is superfast (2800+ MB/s) (1TB). Sound from speakers is so-so, no big deal for me either. Smaller than my previous MBA. Camera is not that bad. All software works. It's a keeper.
FWIW, number 2 is solved. My Photo Stream is now working as a champ.

1 and 3 are non issues. Plus, SSD writes seem to be normal (at least so far).

Instead of waiting for a native PhotoShop I bought Pixelator Pro, it looks superb. Incredibly snappy.

EVEN HAPPIER. :)

Started to see random kernel panics (purple screen for a second followed by restart) after adding a Sennheiser BT headset as a direct BT device instead of via the BT Audio dongle it same with.
The issue seems to be occurring only when connected to an external monitor and the log after restart shows
IOBluetoothRFCOMMChannelUserClient as the panic caller.
Got two such occurrences in a single day today

While I am still a pretty happy camper and I understand that the architecture and OS are still new but kernel panic restarts /BSODs are so 1990s that this is just not done :(

My M1 MBA has been getting quirky recently and it is concerning.

It suffers from USB being slow on SSDs - a common and known problems.

It also will not wake my external monitor after it goes to sleep and I have to switch my monitor off, then back on, and then select the input before it finds the MBA again. This is getting tired...

The biggest concern is that I have issues with Finder. I had a time, where moving files around would not update (actually show) in the target folder for around 30 seconds or more. They would just disappear. Also the storage calculation on the folder was not updating and I was getting beachball hell when file movements. I force restarted Finder which bought the files back but I was still getting weirdness. In the end I had to completely reboot so get some normality of file operation.

I'm hoping this stuff is fixed when the new MBP14 comes out, then I am giving this MBA to my wife.

Issues!!!. If you look in the specific AS section of the forum and many of the M1 reviews, you would think the M1 is the holy grail of computing and as such it's not capable of having issues. I am surprised the Apple collective have not trashed the OP for making such a thread.
That’s because many here are long time mac users And expect issues to come up for sure. I’ll definitely wait at least 10mo before I get one.

I have issues with the LG 32" 4K 32BL75U-W monitor. Frequently when I wake up my M1 MBA, the screen scaling is all messed up and I can't even see app icons at the bottom, the clock etc. It's as if the MBA or monitor forgot it was using a scaled resolution and the image is sort of.. zoomed way too far in. Only work around I've found is to click the Apple icon, System Preferences, Display, and pick a different Scaling option, then back to the one I like (1440p).

Using my MBA in clamshell mode, connected to CalDigit Thunderbolt Station 3 Plus via Thunderbolt, and Display to the monitor.

I have a base m1 mac mini, I edit videos using final cut pro trial and I’m having issues with it. Everytime I move a clip then hit play instantly it will not play, i have to hit the spacebar to pause (Even if the clip is not playing) then hit the space bar again and then it plays. Another issue with FCPX (trial) is whenever i hit play then change the length of the music it will stutter a lot then continue to play only with the audio is behind about 2-3 seconds (not in sync with the mouth) i need to pause and wait a second then play again to fix it.

i also have a problem with my samsung t7 ssd, the read and write is only 200 mbps, I don’t know why.

I have two externals connected to two different M1s with TM. No issues for either of them...

I'm planning to buy mac mini m1 16gb, 1TB config.
Is the bluetooth issue solved already?
Is there anything I need to be aware of?

I'll be using it for my video editing job at home. While at the office I have other systems.

I'm unable wait for new mac launch. Too long. :(
Working here....Mini M1 16GB 256GB

M1 MBA 2020 here, 3 months old, sitting on my desk the whole time using an external Logitech camera. ”Undock” (meaning unplug everything and take laptop elsewhere for a meeting) and the built-in FaceID Camera is no longer recognized by the system.

Dropped it off at Apple Store a week ago Saturday and they are now awaiting a “camera housing part” and due to the COVID manufacturing hit, they have NO ETA as to when it will be available. 2nd week without my work laptop.

Unbelieveable that these types of issues pop up with such a new product, but getting along with an iPad Pro 11”

Are you ready to accept that such new product will already be repaired in some way, especially if it's their fault (poor QC) to not ship a fully working unit? Did they offer a replacement unit?

Can you pick it back up so you can use it for other things until that part arrives?
