Unboxed my MBP yesterday, fully charged it. 12 hours later, with only 5 or 6 hours light use, battery is down to 25%. Any ideas? Didn't drop much in sleep, only when in use.
Indexing. Downloading iCloud and photos. Photos doing background processing. Those things take power. Give it another day plugged in and try again. I get great battery life on the MBAir and the MBPro has better battery life.

Wait a few days, and try the same. Your computer do a lot more when just set up than you may notice.

I am finding that some intel apps especially those that have not been updated in 2-3 years can cause big problems.

One should avoid using migration assistant and be careful about what intel apps are added. Go one at a time.

Sabrent Rocket 2TB will not connect via Sabrent NVME enclosure with the supplied usb c to usb c cable on MacBook Pro M1 however connects perfectly if I use a usb c to usb a and a usb c hub (well it will connect once after a fresh reboot but if you eject the drive and then reconnect it you will have to do another reboot in order to get it to show up) however the same enclosure works perfectly with a Sabrent Rocket 1TB drive installed in the enclosure. Could be issues with the JMS583 chipset used in the enclosure as I hear people having similar problems on recent Macs and Big Sur

MS Office install was funky, but I persevered and finally got it to work.

Google Backup and Sync seems to be a problem.

It seems that I am the least fortunate with my Mini M1. I am using Mac mini M1 for a week now and waiting also for air M1. But now thinking about cancelling air and returning mini.
1. Bluetooth drops almost all the time, mice, speakers, everything except Magic keyboard
2. Getting a lot of app issue, even Apple ones, Safari sometimes takes 80% of cpu with one-two tabs, Spotify stops playing music for no reason. Once everything hang that I couldn't even do a force quit (which I never experienced on my old MBP). It seems that in many apps, there is some kind of 1 second lag when doing sth.
3. After every restart getting "Your Mac restarted because of a problem"
4. Very often I have problem waking mini from sleep.
5. After several days I started getting some weird purple tint issue in both light and dark theme (I found that there was a similar issue several years back and it was some software bug).

Generally it seems very unpredictable, one day is fine, another day it seems that it's barely useable for any normal work. Not really sure if I should wait a week or two for some update, or just return it and buy it maybe in half a year.
Sounds like you could use some diagnostic work. Have you done a clean install of the OS? That seems to be an adventure in itself with these. Simplest thing might be to call Apple. Takes a while to go through their diagnostic procedures, but it might show whether it's the machine or some piece of software that's causing most of your trouble.

The Bluetooth trouble is a known issue. (I don't know how it is with Spotify, but some streaming services turn off when the Bluetooth connection is broken, so it might explain that too.)

What OS version are you on?

use the best: transmission
Transmission seems to work thanks. ?

My other issue is it seems Big Sur won't work well with my old MBA which still runs El Capitan. I tried to access the file on it but the Finder barely do anything.

I'm surprised a 12" would even run all those programs at once without choking, let alone do work with them, so I don't know what to make of that. But memory pressure in yellow does indicate you're likely to have issues due to RAM limits. Good idea to test against the Air to check that. You can check Activity Monitor to see if there's anything surprising going on with some process.
I was surprised as well, it was slow sometimes, but not 40 seconds halt/stop slow, especially the CPU.
But I guess I will return the Mac mini (Apple currently has a big return 6 week return window) once I got the results and get the 16 GB model next year. The i7 2018 Mm is still plenty, but loud compared to the M1 Mm. Strange.

As for surprising, yes, sometimes the Affinity Designer app was still using memory according to Activity Monitor, but according to the Dock it was closed. I will have more time next week.

Unsure if it is Big Sur or the M1 bug, but just got a MacBook Air and the screensaver is kicking in when it shouldn’t and you can’t do anything to get out of it other than close the lid and reopen it.

even when the screensaver is disabled it kicks in

I did notice the autobrighness is a bit wonky today. When I wake it from sleep it takes a couple of seconds to adjust. One time I woke the computer and could barely see the screen. the Touch Bar brightness didn't work so I did a force reboot. I decided to turn off the autobrighnteness. I prefer to do it manually anyway.

There's a thread here about that, in case you haven't seen it. You're not alone.

MBA M1 13" battery temperature is sometimes under load about 43C is not it too high? Could it shorten lifespan of battery?

Only two issues so far:
  • Rare Bluetooth hick-ups when using headphones (short audio dropouts or crackling)
  • WiFi bandwidth sometimes goes down for some reason and then up again after some seconds or minutes
Both likely are driver issues.

My biggest issue is surrounding Messages. When I move onto my MacBook Pro M1, all Messages received since last using it don't appear as expected via iCloud. It's driving me mental.

Ran World of Warcraft for a few hours today. Having been running WoW on macs for 15 years I know that you can easily control power usage by tweaking settings and capping frame rates. By turning shadows, water, sunshafts, SSAO down And capping frame rates at 45 the Air was barely getting warm. I had th audio going through my Beats Studio 3 and was using a Logitech MX2 mouse with no issues. I also had half a dozen tabs open in safari for Wowhead which I would tab back and forth between. I love this wee beast. I was on for 4.5 hours today.

Go into the messages app settings and check that messages in the cloud is enabled. It didn’t enable by default for me so I had to turn it on
