M1 Mac Mini (8/256) crashing while sleeping

The first few days on my M1 Mac Mini had a reboot every night, with a Crash Report showing a kernel panic when I logged in again in the morning. Looked like it had something to do with Bluetooth running out of threads when system went to sleep. I set the system to not sleep as a workaround and the problem went away. Hopefully fixed with the next update. Apple has probably received LOTS of crash reports on this issue!
I work as a cyber security specialist and my pet hate is people letting their computers sleep rather than turn them off ( at work) as we can't push updates etc out. So for me to leave my MBA M1 on hurts haha. So far sleep hasn't caused any crashes for me, wonder if it relates to something installed or not sleeping correctly when the Mac hibernates. hope its fixed soon.
My base M1 Mini also had 2 crash messages during the first few days - one was from Adobe Acrobat Pro 2017 that did not finish license activation and the other was mysterious.
After the update to 11.0.1, it hasn't happened.

I have all those problems (crash while sleep) with my M1 Air 16GB/1TB. So it seems not to be limited to the Mini. And recently I had some sporadic crashes while working with programs as well. Cannot specify yet...

So what's ever interesting is that I had a 8/256 base Mac Mini M1 for almost three weeks without getting this issue. However, I just received my 16/512 Mac Mini (and with the same peripherals) I'm now getting the kernel panic on a daily basis when waking up the computer. Just like what others are saying, no issues what so ever when working on the machine but every time after a long sleep I wake up the computer to be only greeted with a login screen after a reboot.
I'm going to turn off the sleep for now and see if I get this in the next couple of days. I'm okay as long as this is a software issue and it gets fix sooner or later.
My MAJOR concern is that how can I be sure that this is not a memory/gpu or any hardware related issues? I'm still within the return period so I'd like to figure this out. Really don't want to be left with a broken computer after the return period. Thanks all!

I had this issue for a little while when I bought the Mini and the kernel panics seemed to be related to HDMI, with a single old Acer monitor connected to that port. For some weird reason these kernel panics etc stopped and are not currently occurring anymore (fingers crossed). I also had problems with the monitors not waking up from sleep. Now I have another new BenQ monitor connected to HDMI, and the Acer is connected with a DisplayLink adapter instead. So far no problems with waking from sleep either. Boh.
I have this problem and I am using the thunderbolt port (with the thunderbolt 2 adapter to a Thunderbolt display) so I don't think it is just an HDMI issue. Will turn off sleep mode as other have suggested unless there is another fix.
I turned off sleep and it’s been 2 days and the computer has been steady.
um...I just bought a HDMI to HDMI cable hoping to resolve this issue. Maybe it’s not going to go away.
I believe a friend of mine is having this issue. Whenever he comes to his desk in the morning after sleeping the mini overnight, it’s on the Lock Screen and logging in generates a crash report. Is this the behavior you guys are describing happening on intel macs as well? Trying to rule out a hardware issue- if it’s Big Sur, it’s Big Sur!
Funny enough. I had the 8/256 and it was solid, then I got the 16/512 and it happens basically every day. I have since turned off the sleep for the Mini and it's been rock solid.
Ooooo! Had a different M1 Mac Mini kpanic today while loading a page in Firefox. My screen went totally bright Xmas green color and then rebooted. Crash report: "SOCD report detected: (AP watchdog expired)". That was the only line in the crash report!
Nothing on support.apple.com about SOCD. Anyone have any insight into what might be involved, given there is nothing to go on in the crash report?

M1 Macs are having massive problems with kernel panics while attempting to put thunderbolt devices to sleep via power management. Apple is receiving TONS of kernel panic logs but pretends they've never heard of the issue when called via tech support. It appears Apple is pretending the issue isn't real.
You can find instances all over the internet with people complaining about kernel panics and many thunderbolt devices (monitors, raid arrays, TB hard drives, thunderbolt docks, soft raid programs loaded onto external raid arrays, etc). People are also complaining about monitors connected via HDMI. Apple has a massive M1 problem on its hands and so far is pretending it doesn't exist.
Lots of people are returning their M1 Macs before the return window closes because they're not getting any sense that Apple is even acknowledging the problem.

I'm having the same problem and kernel panic on M1 Mac Mini 8GB/512GB, happened twice now overnight.
Same as others describe, I woke up to the monitor on login page, and the report after I log in.
I called Apple Support today and got an advice to use "Safe Mode" to isolate the problem by testing in that mode overnight, and seeing if that happens again. Next step according to Apple Support would be to reinstall the system from scratch. They told me to backup the data now to be ready for it as they would be certain it would have to be done.
I think I might do it very soon and not wait.

I think that's a bit of an overstatement isn't it? There's just a ton of esoteric setups and drivers to get working, most of the issues we saw early on are clearly just waiting for driver updates. 11.2 isn't even out yet, I wouldn't be surprised if that helps massively with the Thunderbolt sleep issues.
