Create a second account that has nothing running in it. Log only into that and let it sleep. See whether the problem repeats.

I have reinstalled my MacOS and still having the problem. Apple Support have just suggested to send my Mac Mini to Apple Service Provider...

I have some issues when i put the computer out of sleep,

like display like program have to be quit and reload to work ok.

Unfortunately 11.2 does not fix this issue. I set my Mac Mini back to standard power settings (sleep enabled) and had my first kernel panic within 3 hours. Consistent with what I was getting before I disabled sleep.

Incidentally I went for 4 or 5 weeks without a kernel panic with sleep disabled

I'm convinced like some others that this is related to the Thunderbolt port. I just so happen to use a 10Gb ethernet connector

At least the M1 does not use much power when idle!

11.2 has made the external monitor crashes during sleep much worse. It’s daily now, whereas it settled down to maybe once a week before the 11.2 update. I switched fully to OS X to get away from forced Windows update restarts... I will try to only use sleep when nothings plugged in. Hopefully the internal display still turns off so it’s not using up backlight life 24x7 when docked.

in your monitors settings, set the DP from 1.4 to 1.2 - this resolved it for me

(it's an impact on hz - from 144 down to 75hz max but it resolves the crash issue)

Note here that if you think "but I use TB3" keep in mind that TB uses displayport protocol... just change it in your monitor to 1.2 - on my ultrawide it leads to being only able to use max 75hz but it does not crash/reboot anymore.

Have this problem as well and just got the M1 Mac mini. Did a full reinstall of macOS, and deleted everything and still happens. No periferals attached except the monitor.

I’ll try the display port version switch suggested though. Desperate for anything.

Apparently a full blown reformat with dismantling of partitions and creating new one, plus a fresh install of MacOS helped me to solve the issue... I did it once quickly just to test, because I wasn’t believing that this will help, and no kernel panics happened for a week or so. Then, I did a full reformat and reinstall again, since I wanted to encrypt the drive as well (did not do it the first time), and then since this second reformat/reinstall no kernel panics at all!!! I don’t have the reason to send it back to service anymore. Hope that helps someone at least!!!

Yes, I chose APFS (Encrypted). However, it worked already without encryption, so simply reformatting from scratch and reinstalling made a difference. Encryption is not a factor in this case I think.

My M1 Mac Mini is 2 weeks old and has been experiencing Sleep Mode crashes. 3 nights/days in a row, I put my computer to sleep, turn off the wireless keyboard power, turn off my version 1 magic mouse and turn my off my monitor. The next morning, when I turn everything back on, I get the message that my computer unexpectedly restarted. I'm using a DELL Monitor connected via HDMI and currently have a Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 dongle attached.

Is there a log or some way for me to find out if these crashes are kernal (panic) related? Where exactly do I track these crashes?

Specs: Mac mini M1, 2020
16 gigs of ram
1TB SSD
MacOS Big Sur 11.1

Also to note, every so often, I'll see the little pink pixel squeares spread-out across the screen as seen here: https://www.macrumors.com/2021/02/21/pink-squares-external-display-m1-mac-mini/

I'll do a test tonight by unplugging the dongle to see if the problem still occurs.

After more than 2 weeks it happened again. I went in into my room stunned by creepy login display ? not again... seriously can one return the mac mini m1 with this issue to apple? I bought it 3 months ago and because of this I’m seriously thinking switching to iPad Pro and say goodbye to mac ? for good...

Happened to me twice in the last 2 months since I owned the new Mac mini M1. Could not explain why or how, it just crashes and restarts. Will keep observing in the months ahead and report if it repeats. And yes, I tend to leave my Mac desktops on sleep than restarting everyday.

It's been almost 1 month without the issue. I will keep observing and reporting as well.

I've just had a bright green screen crash on my M1 Mini. Machine went totally unresponsive and had to power cycle it. I wasn't doing anything particularly taxing at the time.

It’s due to Apple Silicon now controlling thunderbolt (vs Intel silicon in previous macs). Thunderbolt is an intel developed technology. Apple knows about the problem but cannot seem to fix it. I messaged a senior VP at Apple and she blew me off. When Apple says they care about energy usage and the planet, I get a little throw up in my mouth. Like everything in Silicon Valley, the reality is very different from the advertising. The only solution is to disable sleep on your M1 Mac and waste tons of energy and the next time Silicon Valley wokies lecture you on your carbon emissions you laugh hysterically at them.
