M1 Max branding is as dumb as the whole Xbox One X / Series X naming.
Try saying this 5 times: "An M1 Max Mac beats all M1 Macs" or "A Mac with an M1 Max beats all M1 Macs"
Can you believe all the organizational layers of Directors / VPs / SVPs who approve these stupid names.

Did you lose a bet or something?

Also, the irony of someone called Zzemman complaining about stupid naming isn't lost on me.
Apparently it's his opinion the naming is stupid and he's entitled to that opinion. Not everything Apple does needs defending.

Considering the chips are beasts, and I would have loved a return to Powerbook.
Given the TiBook-like aesthetics they chose, that would have been super cool. Specially given how powerful they are.

And in fact I believe that the PowerBook name actually precedes the PowerPC CPUs, as the PowerBook 100 used a Motorola 68k. So no reason not to use that branding!

Public forum. The OP has a right to their opinion, and others have the right to disagree.
IMO the individual I was responsible for wasn't just disagreeing but engaging in personal attacks:

"Also, the irony of someone called Zzemman complaining about stupid naming isn't lost on me."

Again, not everything Apple does needs defending.

How frequently do you plan to say these things? Is this really a problem that outweighs the whole system of identifying product segments? This seems like a wholly artificial concern.

Could be confusing, at least when pronounced verbally: In my case, I love my M1 Macs and want to buy an M1 Max.

Who are you, Dr Seuss??

“1 Mac 2 Macs 3 M1 Mac Pro Max Macs”

it’s a name, pretty straightforward

I agree.

It isn't so bad that I wouldn't get the devices, but yeah, the naming isn't great.

Reminds me of the Apple TV, Apple TV+, and Apple TV app naming problem, although, the M1 Max isn't as bad.

Not saying that Branding is easy but there are some senior people at Apple whose main responsibilities include Branding and who could strive to do a better job. Call it tough love but we definitely expect more from Apple than from Intel.
