Hey gang -

For those that have placed an M1 Pro or Max order within the last few weeks: have Apple's shipping estimates been pretty accurate? My current M1 Max ETA is the first couple of weeks of March. That's fine and all, I was just curious if they're being conservative to keep expectations realistic, or if they're actually taking almost two months to ship?

What's sort of nutty is that current ship dates for any config I'd want are mid/late March. That may more or less coincide with the announcement of the new iMac and maybe also new external monitors. I'm really torn between an MBP + monitor and new iMac.

Well... Damn. I guess I'll see mine right before Spring then.
Afraid so, given current supply chains you're likely to get it at the upper side of the estimate. but hope for you things will change and you'll have it sooner. At least Apple is on point with their estimates (in my case)

I ordered a 14" M1 Max 24-core on 10 December and have an estimate of 25-Jan to 1-Feb. It is still showing as "processing", so I doubt that I will see it close to the earlier date. From my previous orders, they normally move to "preparing to ship" for 1-3 days, and then it takes at least 4-7 days to arrive from China (although a computer I ordered last year got lost, then the replacement was stuck somewhere for 2 weeks....).

I'm hoping that the 1-Feb estimate is still possible, but am not expecting it sooner.

I ordered 14" M1 Max 24-core GPU 19th November and still processing. Original date was 27th December 2021. One of my friend ordered the M1 Pro (8-core CPU) on the same day and got delivered December 20th. It seems like 24-core M1 Max is just too long to wait for.

My late 2018 is not long for the world. Went on the Apple Store to place an order for a 2TB, 32GB, 32 core and....late March???? Wow. Guess I'll be pushing this thing along for a while. I have 9 or 10 keys that double trigger constantly, I've learned to live with it.

Oh dear....that is not a good sign :-(

Are you still waiting or did you cancel?

If not, what is your current estimated delivery date? How long before the previous 27th December date did you see an revised (delayed) delivery? I'm half expecting to see my delivery date be delayed by a couple of weeks in the next few days.

I think supplies of the 24-core M1 Max are very constrained because Apple is waiting for "natural" yield failures of the 32-core version from which to create the 24-core, and possibly they are simply having better yields (or more demand for the 32-core) than they expected.

If they have to deliberately hobble a perfectly good 32-core SoC in order to fulfil a 24-core order, they will do so reluctantly, and will do as few as they can get away with before significant numbers of customers cancel their orders due to delays.

I'm interesting in hearing about progress with your order...i.e. when it moves to "ready to ship" etc.

The bad news is that, it does not have a date now.

 that is not good!

What are you going to do? Have you contacted Apple to ask what is going on? If so, what did they say?

I would not be at all happy if this happens to me as well. I guess I'll find out in the next few days.

Well, I decided to just wait and I believe it will arrive eventually. Apple told me just wait a "few more weeks" or they can help me cancel my order. If I cancel now I may need to wait for even longer.

This is definitely the longest I have ever had to wait for a new Mac. I remember when the 5K iMacs came out I ordered a maxed out custom order and that still came relatively quickly in comparison. I have a 14" M1 Max on ordered on December 29th, estimated to be here end of February to first or 2nd week of March.

So now have a date. It is quite close to the "few more weeks" Apple support told me.

I ordered mine at launch and it arrived earlier than what Apple said. So it could be possible yours will arrive sooner too.

Did your original delivery estimate change, or was end-Feb to mid-March what you got when you ordered? I’m interested in knowing whether orders are being consistently delayed across the board.

I am still in "processing", nothing has changed since I made the original order.

Thanks. My 10th December order gave me 25 Jan - 1 Feb dates, and current estimates for new orders are 6-8 weeks, which is only slightly longer than your estimate. Sounds like yours is closer to 8-10 weeks.

Considering your order was 19 days later than mine, it’s concerning that your delivery could be over 40 days later.

I wonder what will happen to my order!

Apple told me that one (only one) machine of the same spec but with different color (Silver) will be available for pickup in Store this Friday and asked me if I want to pickup that one instead of waiting. I agreed with the proposal. So my waiting is going to end soon and I'm glad that Apple made such accommodation.

Nice! That was a stroke of luck, and it's reassuring that Apple made the effort to help.

I had some positive news as well - my order has just managed to "Preparing to Ship", so it looks like it should meet the delivery estimate unless I get hit by logistics delays, which are all too frequent these days.

I'm not counting my chickens, but have put my current MBP16 up for sale (not that I am using it much these days at home as I find my M1 Mini to generally offer a better experience)

I chatted in with Apple and was told if my order wasn't customized, they would be able to expedite it and have it delivered well before the shipping estimates. YMMV

The config I want all of a sudden is available at like a dozen Apple stores near me for pickup or 2-hour delivery ($5!). Fairly loaded up 14". But otherwise still has a mid-late March delivery estimate if you go that route.
