This is a pretty annoying situation....:(
No consolation to US residents, but there's an Apple reseller I quite often use in the UK, they have tons of different specs in stock (i.e. 10c,14c,16c,32c M1 Max, and hundreds of the lower specs for next day delivery). Surprisingly no 24c.

Would someone like B&H not have stock?

Anyone receive their order ahead of the delivery estimate?
I did. I ordered mine (14" M1 Max 32/32GB 1TB) on Jan 17th and was given a March 1-9th date, but it arrived on Feb 8th. So it came about a month ahead of schedule, guess I got extremely lucky somehow.

If you have one or more Apple stores near you it's worth checking every day to see if they have the config you want. Just spec it out on the site and see what happens to the delivery options. The config I've been eyeing has popped up frequently for same-day pickup (and even same-day local delivery which is kind of cool). Then I see them get depleted in the ensuing days, only to get restocked not much later.

You may be able to snag what you want same-day and cancel your order.

I have been doing that for 3+ weeks but no luck so far. Anything with M1 Max shows no availability and April shipping, and that’s checking 8 Apple Stores.
I was able to chat in today and they confirmed they were able to upgrade the shipping to a faster speed but they could not change the built to order process.

That's too bad. The config I keep finding near me is 14", M1 Max 10/32, 64GB RAM, 2TB. Both case colors too. Seems like each store around me (and there are about a dozen) get 1-2 of each every week or two. Somewhat strange as that's the *only* combo that I see consistently. Also wild that they keep selling at $4k...

I got lucky, and decided to cancel my M1 Max order. As it turns out: my employer's refresh cycle is three years, not four. And my existing laptop will have been in my possession for three years by the end of June. We now have, among other configs: a 32GB 16" M1 Max laptop available. So I can wait a few more months, and save myself a bundle of money. :)

I noticed that here as well. If the 14 Max wasn't throttled like it is, I'd make the sacrifice to a smaller screen and would be fine with the cost. But two things: one being a small screen, and the other being CPU throttling, is too much to ask considering the prices. My biggest gripe is SDD size as nothing less than 2TB will do for me. No one seems to carry stock on 2TB 16"s, either in Pro or Max config. I really hate that Apple insists on soldering their drives, it's really annoying right now since shipping times are 4-8+ weeks. 10 years ago we would have just bought the machine and replaced the drive on day 1.

Outside of B&H, who else might have stock for 16" 2TB and up machines?

IMO the 14 M1 Max throttling isn't a huge issue as it only throttles if you're pushing the SoC to its max capabilities. Will you really be pushing the machine? If so, how long?

Yeah all the research I did, including watching the videos of the throttling in action, showed all the examples to be very contrived. Forget niche scenarios. More like...extremely unlikely in the real world. A test constructed to show something and that's it. And then, even if, somehow, your actual real-life workflow caused it, it was very minor.

Indeed, I have found this to echo my own anecdotal experience as well.

Thank you.

My workload is mainly Ableton Live 11, lots of CPU hungry plug-ins, large sample libraries and also Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere and occasional After Effects. I'm not doing anything beyond 4K as far as video. I'm driving a 4K monitor off of a late 2018 15" i9 at the moment in one place and an older Thunderbolt 27" another place. I do run into issues here and there with the 4K - the monitor seems to slow it down at times. Just not sure if I can deal with the smaller screen if it's not hooked up to a monitor. No way to know unless I try to live with it. My other issue is disk space - I'm running around with a 2TB SSD external and using a total of 1.3TB between my MBP's native drive and the external with all the libraries. External for me is really not ideal. How much of a PITA is it going from an older 15" to one of these newer 14's?

Also, will these newer MBPs live with 85w chargers? I have a half dozen spread around.

Finally got the notice that my M1 Max shipped out yesterday. According to UPS I should have it on Thursday which has it coming in about 2 days earlier then the earliest date estimate given by Apple. Only 2 months wait. Looking forward to seeing how this performs with Adobe CC!

Well, ordered 14" MBP Max 32gb/1TB back in January through a reseller in UK. Expected shipping date was 1st April 2022 which seemed in line with most peoples dates

Woke up this morning with email saying it had shipped - and it arrived just before lunchtime - super happy!

My M1 Max 14" MBP (32 GB, 1 TB) was ordered early January. Estimate was for delivery sometime in first two weeks of March. I just got notice from my company's IT dept. that it's expected to arrive March 2.

From a software developer perspective:
14 inch M1 Max works well and it does not throttle if only CPU hungry workload is running. I'm using 4K monitors and it almost never slows down. It will throttle only if the CPU and GPU are both fully loaded which is really rare for my workloads.

I’m based in NZ. I ordered mine on 1st jan and ETA was to arrive 23 feb -8-march and now it has changed to a week later 28 feb -15 march. Still showing in process. Nothing has changed since i placed the order. My uni has already started and i old laptop has died completely some how. So I don’t have anything to work with. Classes are online cause of covid-****. So i’m using my mobile to attend classes. The bad thing is I’m studying software engineering and can you imagine doing software engineering with out a machine ?. Fingers cross i hope apple wont change the dates again.

For what it’s worth, I ordered a new MBP on Thursday, with an expected delivery date of April 23-May 3. I just checked and the Apple Store app indicated “Your order will be available soon”, with a new expected delivery date of April 13-20.

Config was 16”/M1Max(10/32)/32/2TB.

I ordered an M1Max MacBook Pro with 64GB ram and a 4TB ssd on Jan 17. Was quoted March 18 - 31. I've heard rumors about an enhanced M1Max chip and an M2Max chip coming in 2023. I wonder if the enhanced M1Max chip is more than a rumor. If so, why does the M1Max chip need to be enhanced? I've waited nearly 6 weeks now. I am tempted to cancel the order and wait for the next generation of Max chips. It's obvious that the Max chips are causing the delay. I wonder if there are yield problems with them. I wonder too much, me thinks.

I've been playing around on the Apple site. The 14" M1Max with 10 core cpu and 32 core gpu, 64gb ram and a 2TB ssd is available for pickup today at my Apple store. But when I change the order to a 4TB ssd, the delivery falls to mid April. If I look at a change to 16", 2 TB, the delivery falls to mid April. So, it's the 4TB ssd or 16" display that's causing the slip.
