HiI'm currently contemplating on buying the LG 40WP95C to combine with my M1 Macbook Air. However, the known issues regarding scaling got me in doubt, and I haven't been able to find a conclusion - is this still an issue, also for later updates, especially given one of the recent posts mentions it is not? And if so, do solutions like BetterDisplay work (decently) to resolve this?
Thanks in advance!
If you can tolerate 4K standard, for that price you could get a 4K OLED in 42 or 48 and they are outstanding - and they work just fine with M1 series.I'm currently contemplating on buying the LG 40WP95C to combine with my M1 Macbook Air. The LG 40WP95C has a native resolution of 5120x2160 which I can use just fine with my M1 Mac mini over Thunderbolt. I think with the current macOS release the M1 MacBook Air will also be able to use 5120x2160.I'm currently contemplating on buying the LG 40WP95C to combine with my M1 Macbook Air. I’m also getting the same monitor given the Black Friday sale. Hopefully it works decently with the M1 Max. Mainly I want to run enough vscode tabs in the same window. I’ve found 27 inches too small for more than 2 tabs.If you can tolerate 4K standard, for that price you could get a 4K OLED in 42 or 48 and they are outstanding - and they work just fine with M1 series.
Yes it can drive it at the native resolution. Problem is the UI is unusable because everything is so tiny (to my eyes anyway). What people want are scaled resolutions, to make the UI larger and useable, but it needs to be at HiDPI (IMO and IME) otherwise it looks pretty bad.The LG 40WP95C has a native resolution of 5120x2160 which I can use just fine with my M1 Mac mini over Thunderbolt. If you want to use a high-end monitor like LG OLED... and you want to be on the save side, then buy a MacBook Pro 16-inch M3 MAX.I'm currently contemplating on buying the LG 40WP95C to combine with my M1 Macbook Air. Good to know. BetterDisplay should also work just fine with the LG40WP95C. I am currently using a Dell U3415W with a scaled resolution of 85% at 2924x1224 on my M1 MacBook Pro 14, and everything is nice and sharp. I imagine that the LG 40WP95C will look amazing. Waiting for it to drop more in price, and that will be my next pick.@anthonymoody I am running my 5120x2160 monitor scaled at 4096x1728 using EasyRes with a plain M1 chip (no pro/max).
In HiDPI, at 72Hz?@anthonymoody I am running my 5120x2160 monitor scaled at 4096x1728 using EasyRes with a plain M1 chip (no pro/max).
The monitor does not support it's full resolution using HDMI, no matter what cable you use :/This is a hell of a long thread! Im sure my answer is in here somewhere, but I cannot get my 34WK95U to display in 4K resolution using an HDMI 2.1 cable. What could I possibly be doing wrong? I AM able to get Hi DPI, but its in a super weird aspect ratio that doesnt cover the entire screen. Even using BetterDisplay and SwitchResX, no dice. It works properly with a DisplayPort -> USB-C cable, but I want to use HDMI for my use.
He only wants 4k, not 5k.The monitor does not support it's full resolution using HDMI, no matter what cable you use :/
well, I clearly read his question thoroughly then lol. Sorry for thatHe only wants 4k, not 5k.
I am on M1 Pro with an older Thunderbolt 3 5K*2K LG. It works flawlessly. The only thing I could image might impact your experience is setting the DisplayPort Protocol in the monitors OSD. Version 1.4 works for me (default seems to be 1.2), though my model is limited to 60Hz anyway.Apologies if it isn’t, but this looks like the right thread for the questions I need to ask, since it’s mostly about LG and ultrawide compatibility with Macs.
I have an LG ultrawide that I don’t actually know what model it is. That’s on the back; I can’t get to the back with any meaningful ease. The display’s software menus don’t even tell me, and Apple System Information won’t say it, either. I think it’s a 49WL95C-WY.AUS. It’s 5120x1440. I have it hooked up to an M2 Mac mini and connected across a single USB-C cable through DisplayPort 1.4.
The entire time I’ve owned this thing, it randomly shuts itself off for 1-5 seconds, arbitrarily, sometimes multiple times an hour, sometimes only a few times a day. Video and audio cut out during this time, but data (cursor movement or keyboard input) continues to be sent. I cannot ****ing take this anymore. I have work to do. Moreover, ever since MacOS 15’s release, audio playback is sometimes, arbitrarily, slower and pitched down. This can be “fixed” by quitting whatever application is playing the audio and reopening it, but it’s not something that should be happening in any capacity. I bought a Thunderbolt 4 cable (I’m using the one that came with the display otherwise) to try to diagnose the problem, but it’s not the cable. I only have one computer capable of connecting to this display, so I can’t swap out the Mac.
I’ve seen a tiny handful of other users claim this problem is happening with this model when used with a Mac, but I can’t confirm it. If other people are using LG displays with Macs flawlessly–either higher or lower resolutions–it leads me to believe it’s a defect on LG’s part. They’ve refused to acknowledge it and refuse to even address my concerns when I contact them directly from their website, telling me I need to message them on social media. Like I’m going to create a social media account for that.
I guess, in a general sense, my question is: Does anyone else have arbitrary A/V cutout problems with an M2 Mac mini pushing an LG display at 5120x1440?
