UPDATE - got an email from my “account manager” or whatever. Apple is embargoing and can’t be delivered until Friday 5/21.

@xenoako I didn’t receive one either.
Do you know what triggered this email? Will they refund for the overnight/priority delivery promised for tomorrow?

Yikes, a bit of a mess. Don't expect them until Friday, and get shipping refunds. Still, Friday is good.

@xenoako I’d wait until it’s delivered Friday then hit them up. Worst case just dispute part of the charge with your credit card company if they won’t. Hopefully you have screenshots for backup.

@4sallypat many of us are well aware and bought because of the early delivery opportunity.

Here’s what landed in my inbox moments ago.

Yes, bummer not :D

If they had will-call still in place, I probably could have gotten one when they opened, before they woke up for the day.
I use to go there, years ago.

And then there's the same day shipping option. Wonder if anyone used that and has one already? Only $130.

At the end of the day, I would have been better off to stay with my BB order if it would have been delivered 5/21/21.
I printed the CDW original order page that shows delivery slated for 5/19/21, but the email confirmation does not stipulate a delivery target.

That’s sufficient for the dispute process. Just keep it handy in case they won’t refund the difference between standard and expedited.

i'm feeling better off with cdw, i wasn't so keen on their statement "ship by May 24", which is not even the release date. at least i'll be getting it on Friday and can get the extra shipping cost refunded

Well, it seems like the reps I've talked to had no idea what's going on with the stocks. I called again a few minutes ago and this time the guy who picked up says their tech review team has to release the embargoed product so there's no chance of getting it tomorrow.
LIARS....
I'm just going to keep the order as is and see if it does get delivered by Friday at least somehow, but I'll def be hunting for the Apple in-store stock on Friday.

I have a 12.9 on order delivering late June/early July but I was thinking of trying to go to an apple store on Friday if they have stock. My question is does anyone know if you can process a trade-in at a retail store? I don't want to forgo my $455 on my old iPad just to get the new one sooner!

Yeah, they will process your trade in store. No worries there.

"If it sounds too good to be true... IT IS!"
No. This is a totally legit outfit, but Apple's crazy rules are a challenge. Also, CDW isn't helping the issue. Also, some here may have legit complaints.

It does stretch credulity that after some of us cancelled existing orders that might have delivered 5/21/21 and placed one with CDW then late in the day CDW suddenly realizes Apple has a firm embargo. I thought this was akin to that furniture store as the CDW web was clear about being able to deliver tomorrow both on the initial review page and the final page confirming purchase.

I’m surprised you canceled an order due to be delivered this Friday in order to gamble on getting it on Wednesday instead.

Why would you cancel? I presume the Apple order hadn’t yet shipped as they don’t allow cancellation at that point. So you would be prudent it have two orders and drop whichever is still pending after you get it.

Preordering is always a mess never fails. Retailers get stock wrong, dates wrong, lose orders. It is a crazy point so you take precautions.

I have an early Thursday morning Zoom session involving the UN and Vatican that brings together a unique group of global leaders where I am a presenter. My eyes were fixed on trying to get the new iPad in time to resolve some of the issues experienced in previous like Zoom sessions with my current iPad. Various posts on this forum + responses from CDW seemed to make the CDW imminent delivery believable.
Unfortunately, I cancelled an existing BB order because my office gives me grief when two such charges land in the same month and the CDW charge went through very quickly. In view of a promised date of 5/21, I worried about a point of no return notice from BB for whatever date. In the meantime, I noticed that even yesterday BB promised a 5/21 delivery for my configuration that had been ordered on 5/3 since I missed the only real opportunity for early delivery directly from Apple when doing a pre-order on 4/30.
I have gone through many of these rituals with Apple, but forsook my own guardrails due to the May 20 obsession. I do, however, feel justified in pointing to the misleading information from CDW.

Something tells me if you were working with the UN and the Vatican and were having presentation issues, your employer would work with you to resolve that.
