You are right. Haha. my order went from multiple agents saying it’s allocated and shipping today to 4 to 6 weeks back ordered.
I cancelled.
I’ll try and wait for my Apple Store order with a late June delivery or somewhere else maybe before that.

I ordered yesterday from CDW and chose 2nd air with extra $40 fee with ETA 5/21. This afternoon I called,to confirm and was told its website yesterday was a mistake and won't be available for 4-6 weeks. Anyone has the same issue?
If I don’t get a shipping update tomorrow I’ll cancel and just try to do a store pickup Friday.
I researched but was previously unaware of CDWs seeming penchant for offering items up for order, stating they’re in stock and ready to ship when they really aren’t… I wonder how much money they earn annually off the float between the time the $ are xferred to their merchant account in these situations and the time the refund is issued.

I had a similar experience this morning. When I saw that CDW had these this morning due to a thread here, I found a space gray 2 TB 12.9 that indicated it was in stock and ordered it. Payment went through. Saw also on the same thread that the orders don’t attach to your account on CDW.com for some reason and a call to them will attach the order as expected. Called and got a sales help person who proceeded to tell me that the iPad I ordered wasn’t actually available for 4-6 weeks. So I said “but it showed as in-stock when I ordered - if that’s the case cancel the order”. He canceled the order and 60 seconds later starting “hmmm’ing” - I asked what’s up and he said it shows in stock now, so I think the one you had was the only one actually in stock. So we reordered it, generating a new order number and new payment (which I’m harassing their sales center via email to reverse since it hasn’t yet).
Good times, CDW...
That's probably 1TB Wi-Fi, though. Best Buy still allows orders for other configurations.
lolll. it was just a meme when i created the nickname a couple of years ago but here i am living up to the nickname now with this unprecedentedly messed-up ipad preorder
most of the configurations are gone there but some are still available. especially for 256gb they're like in the middle zone, quite a bit pricier than 128gb but neither 16gb ram nor large enough capacity as 512gb - i guess that's why it's relatively unpopular and still available
The 256GB is just $100 more so I think that's actually an easy upsell. It probably just comes down to much lower stock for 512GB+.
I work at bestbuy and trust me it will not. Bestbuy is notorious for doing this and even did it for the Xbox and PS5 launch, it will go to back order tomorrow or Friday morning and you will get a email from bestbuy saying unfortunately they didn't get enough stock and they will let you know when it ships.
See bestbuy goes off the inventory of what they ORDER but not what they get. Bestbuy can order 1 million units doesnt mean they will get that many.

Be careful. Sales person says website is incorrect. If you order you will be disappointed for a long wait
BB sales via chat also said Wil be available for purchase at stores on release date 5/21.
Think I'll hang on to this CDW order until Friday, if no movement, I'll cancel and hold out for my BB order. They're closed now but going to chat with them in the morning to see what they tell me.
So we'll see if this is actually true - from CDW chat: "Looks like this item is allocated to ship out today, please contact your account manager with questions."
I ordered from CDW as well. It all went through as normal with delivery for tomorrow. Then about an hour afterwards i get an email saying they are backordered for 6 weeks. Canceled my order right away. But last night they charged my card! Damn you CDW.....

I used the “Notify Me” button on the product page for the model I wanted.
I got an email letting me know it was available. It took a few minutes of refreshing but the “Coming soon” button changed to “pre-order” and I was able to grab one.
